Twitter has a good highlight summary of plays and photos.

O'Leary started, gave up a 2 run home run,  but gained experience.   Seems all Texas pitchers went 2 innings.  More of a scrimmage than a game.

At least did not have to hear "SEC- SEC - SEC" chant.   aggy is disappointed.    😊

CONROE, Texas – On Saturday night in front of a massive crowd at the Scrap Yard Sports Facility, Texas softball fought its way back from a six-run deficit by putting a six-spot on the board in the eighth and two more runs up in the ninth to rally past LSU, 8-6 (9 inn.).

With the triumph over the Tigers, the Burnt Orange & White improved to a perfect 2-0 during the 2018 fall campaign.

The Longhorns offense banged out 12 total hits in the contest, powered by a 3-for-4 effort with two doubles and two RBIs from sophomore second baseman Janae Jefferson. Junior catcher Taylor Ellsworth was 2-for-4 and contributed a clutch two-out, two-RBI double during the bottom of the ninth inning. Junior right fielder Tuesday DerMargosian was 2-for-4 with a RBI, redshirt junior center fielder Reagan Hathaway was 1-for-3 with a RBI and freshman pinch hitter Eli Espinosa was credited with a RBI on a key, eighth-inning, game-tying sacrifice fly.

In the circle for Texas, senior Brooke Bolinger earned the win in relief, striking out four over two innings of one-hit work. Sophomore Chloe Romero was also strong in relief during the middle frames, permitting just one hit over her two innings of effort.

Facing UT freshman starter Shea O'Leary, a one-out bloop single to right, a stolen base and a two-run HR combined to boost LSU to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first.

After Texas left Jefferson stranded at second following a one-out single in its half of the first, LSU strung together a one-out double to right center and a single to right to raise the advantage during the second frame to 3-0.

Junior shortstop Kaitlyn Slack tried to get the Longhorns offense untracked in the bottom of the second by beating out a lead-off infield single. Unfortunately, the next three hitters went down in order against LSU pitcher Shelbi Sunseri on a groundout, a pop-up and a strikeout.

The Tigers added to their lead in the top of the third against sophomore reliever Ariana Adams. After LSU got the first two aboard on a walk and a failed fielder's choice, a UT error on a throw to second and a groundout made it 4-0. A one-out double into right center soon expanded the gap further to five runs.

LSU eventually boosted its lead to 6-0 in the top of the fourth after a leadoff double was cashed in on a sharp one-out single past third.

Sophomore designated player MK Tedder gave UT more life by starting off the bottom of the fifth with an infield single for the Longhorns. With a UT runner stationed at second and two outs, Jefferson stepped into the batter's box and ripped an absolute liner to third that was caught on a potential run-saving play to end the frame.

Sophomore pitchers Adams and Romero soon calmed things down from the circle during the fifth, sixth and seventh innings by putting zeroes up on the scoreboard.

Following a dominant top of the eighth from Bolinger with two K's, singles by DerMargosian and senior third baseman Ki'Audra Hayter finally ignited the Longhorns offense in the bottom half. Jefferson got Texas on the scoreboard by driving a two-run double to right center. Singles by freshman pinch hitter Janna Roberts and Hathaway, a passed ball and a Slack walk loaded the bases with still no outs. Ellsworth followed by hitting a chopper to third. The ball was fielded cleanly and tossed to the plate, but LSU's catcher failed to touch home allowing Roberts the chance to cross and cut the deficit to 6-4. From there, another Tiger passed ball and Espinosa's sacrifice line drive to left tied the score at 6-6.

LSU managed to get the leadoff on in the top of the ninth on a blooper that just popped out of the glove of diving freshman shortstop McKenzie Parker. Bolinger slammed the door from there, however, by retiring the next three batters she faced with two more strikeouts.

It was Jefferson that got the decisive outburst started for Texas during the bottom of the ninth with a bloop double to left center. With Hathaway also on base on a walk, Ellsworth stepped up with two retired and blasted a two-run base knock to right center to finalize an 8-6 triumph.

Fuck yesssssssssssssss

Do work, Mike.

Edit: Elish is immediately #1.  Bollinger is #2 and Romero/O'Leary are battling for #3.  But Elish for 2 years and then Romero or O'Learly moving into Bollinger's spot in 2020 is huge.

Burke should be a middle of the order hitter considering our total lack of power.  As long as Washington and Jefferson are at the top, any combination of Burke/Ellsworth/Hathaway at 3-4-5 is really good.

So they can play this Spring?

The way it says "to join the program in 2019" tells me yes, immediately eligible.  If Patty Gasso gets every god damn transfer immediately eligible, we should too.

I has excite!

I remember just reading yesterday all this "they shouldn't go to Texas if they actually want to win - OU, Florida, Auburn are much better choices."

At the end of the day, they really do like playing for Mike and are willing to leave Oregon to come to Texas for him.  Says a lot about him as a coach.

Also, we are playing in the ESPN Invitational Collegiate Tournament in Clearwater, FL (first ever). All games will be on the ESPN platform.  Our matchups are:

2/14 California
2/15 FAU and LSU
2/15 Kentucky

Color me fucking SHOCKED that ESPN didn't match up Texas-Oregon (easy story line) and Oregon-Oklahoma (the teacher vs. the student).

We are also hosting a tournament the next weekend featuring Tulsa, SHSU and Ole Miss.  April 24 game against PVA&M

Heard this weekend that a transfer Catcher from Utah is coming, and that two more Ducks may be looking to migrate south this winter.

Coaching changes are hard.  We are really lucky we only lost 1 player after Clark left (Ciera Schick) - but I mean, realistically, we don't have THAT many players trying to be poached by big time schools - Jefferson, Washington, Ellsworth and Hathaway; maybe Bollinger or a young pitcher.

Guys/Girls, it can not be overstated how big the addition of Elish is to this team. She is the former #1 recruit in the country, she is an AA pitcher with WCWS experience, She has a career 37-2 record, and as stated above, she instantly makes us a top 15-20 team. With her throwing two games out of every three during conference play, there is no reason that this team doesn't finish at or near the top of the Big XII.

Mike White is making quick work of the roster rebuild.

2017:

Pac-12 All-Freshman
12-0 record
CG win against #7 FSU
Win against Baylor in the WCWS
Pitched in relief against OU in the WCWS

2018:

She pitched wins against Texas, Ok State, LSU, FSU, UCLA, 2 against Arizona, ASU, 2 against Washington and 2 against Kentucky.  Going into the WCWS, she had a 0.89 ERA.   She didn't have a great WCWS (9 ER in 10.2 IP) but 2 of those were against the runner-up and the champ. A perfect fielding percentage too.

I see one "C/3B" disappear from the Utah roster between 2018 and 2019 - Kelly Martinez (would be a JR).  Just speculating this is who it would be.

2017 Pac-12 All Freshman, started all 53 games at catcher, hit .270 with 5 doubles, 1 triple, 8 HR, 34 RBI and a .986 fielding percentage,

2018 - started all 50 games, hit .310, 9 doubles, 5 triples, 3 homers, 22 RBI, .988 fielding percentage, caught 10 runners stealing (26-36)

Holy crap if true

https://247sports.com/college/oregon/Board/45/Contents/Miranda-Elish-transferring-123479476/?Page=3#M123535137

Quote

Well, I finally got some info from my own source about the transfers and it sounds like there are some big problems with new coach Lombardi including the possible additional transfer of Alexis Mack. I'm hearing that the new coach is a control freak and during a team meeting instituted a new 24/7 dress code that forbids players from wearing anything "enticing" like stretch pants and torn jeans, even on their own time. I even heard a rumor that Lombardi contacted Nike about redesigning Oregon's softball uniforms to remove the stretch pants and switch to more baggy traditional type uniforms. The story goes that Lombardi considers suggestive clothing a representation of values and how the girls were raised and the players responded that Eugene, Oregon is progressive and not in the Bible Belt. So word is that Lauren Burke in particular took great offense to Lombardi questioning how she was raised, got in the coaches face, and now has left the team. If true this would certainly explain the context of the tweets from the departing players.

If what I'm hearing is accurate and it came from a trusted source, Oregon softball may be in for a rocky patch...

Lombardi can't run UO like it's OU - two totally different areas of the country.

Lombardi is on a mission. A Christian mission to spread the word of Jesus and traditional values to Godless Oregon. They may have screwed themselves with that hire

If true, and combined with not even counteroffering Mike's Texas offer, the AD failed bigly.

Of course it's just a story on a Duck message board.  But Elish was one of the first Oregon players to tweet and welcome Lombardi with open arms.  A few months later, she's gone and takes Burke with her.  Something doesn't smell right.

She's also really good behind the plate from what I've read.

We always take SO LONG to release our schedule.  Still trying to piece it together:

2/14-16 ESPN tournament in Clearwater (Cal, FAU, LSU, Kentucky)
2/22-24 home tournament ft. Tulsa, SHSU, Ole Miss (Texas Invitational)
3/22-24 Iowa State
3/27 @ Baylor
4/24 Prairie View A&M
5/3-4 Baylor

Obviously we have 3 games @ KU, 3 games @ Tech, 3 games @ OK State, and OU comes to Austin for 3 games.  One of those years we have 8 conference home games and 10 conference road games.

I'd guess a home and home with the Bobcats as usual, as well as Houston (last year we skipped the home game because we played in Puerto Vallarta).  I hope we have someone really good coming in for a 3 game series (last year was Arizona).  I'm sure we will have our usual Texas Classic to open the season and I hope we get at least 1 good P5 team (Wisky last year). I also hope we get South Carolina to make a trip to Austin to return the trip from last year.  We will also play our usual one game sets with SFA, UTSA, TAMUCC, Texas Southern and a few games with Samford and Incarnate Word I'm sure.

A great one indeed !

Built the foundation for Texas Softball leading Texas to its first WCWS in '98.     Last I heard she is the head softball coach at Friendswood.    Also read (true or not) she was considered for the recent head coach position at Lamar.   Hope she attends the alumni game this Sunday,  11AM, LHN.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – On Saturday night in Oklahoma City, Okla., former Texas softball and Team USA standout Christa Williams was inducted into the National Softball Hall of Fame as part of the organization's 38th-annual induction ceremony.

She joined the hall as part of a 2018 class that included: Dick Brubaker (Fast Pitch Player), Crystl Bustos (Fast Pitch Player), John Daniels (Sponsor), Ricky Huggins (Slow Pitch Player), Todd Joerling (Slow Pitch Player), Bill Silves (Umpire) and Charles Wright (Slow Pitch Player).

A two-time Olympic Gold Medalist and two-time World Champion, Christa Williams was one of the best pitchers to come out of the Houston area. Having already pitched the United States to a WBSC Junior Women's World Championship in 1995, Williams was the youngest member on the inaugural U.S. Olympic Softball team in 1996 when the sport debuted in the Atlanta Olympic Games. During the event, she went a perfect 2-0 in the circle, allowing no earned runs while striking out 15 batters in her Olympic debut. She followed with another 2-0 showing in the circle for the United States at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, as the United States claimed their second Olympic Gold Medal. In addition to her international accolades, Williams also made a name for herself at the national level, twice earning USA Softball All-American honors at the Women's Major Fast Pitch National Championship.

During her standout two-year collegiate career on the Forty Acres (1998-99), Williams posted a sterling 50-15 overall pitching record with a miniscule 0.71 ERA to go with 27 shutouts and 678 strikeouts over 452.2 innings of work. She was a two-time National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American and was twice honored as a NFCA All-Midwest Region and All-Big 12 First Team choice. Despite spending just two years with the Longhorns program, Williams continues to rank second in career ERA, tied for third in career shutouts, fourth in career strikeouts and sixth in career wins, appearances and innings pitched. She was enshrined as part of the UT Hall of Honor back in November of 2007.

I saw her pitch a game her senior year in high school at Dobie against Sam Rayburn. Both were excellent teams and it feels like it was a late season playoff game, but it's been so long. Anyway, I'm sure my memory is off on this, but the freaking game was epic and like 0-0 heading into something like the 16th or 17th inning and Dobie won it, 1-0. She went the whole game, as did the Rayburn pitcher. It was something to behold. It's the only HS softball game I've ever attended.

What in the wide world of sports is going on?

Now STUD pitcher G. Juarez is leaving ASU? As well as stud IF Danielle Gibson.

I don't think Mike is going to take a 6th pitcher, but Danielle Gibson would be a good pickup as a sophomore (.343, 12 doubles, 12 homers, 39 RBI, 20 BB, .971 fielding).

Whoever is getting G. Juarez is lucky - 1.22 ERA with 305 strikeouts in 224.1 IP.  Some scuttle one or both could be headed to Lubbock?  G. Juarez immediately makes Tech a contender in the Big 12.  Talk about an influx of pitching talent into the conference (Shannon Saile transferred to OU, Elish transferred to Texas, Sidney Holman to Baylor, Sam Show and Gabby Sprang to OK State, possibly Juarez to TT)

40 ex-players is tremendous.     Never came close to that number in the past.

The past will meet the present when the Texas softball team hosts its alumni game on Sunday.

Among the alumni who are expected to play are ex-pitcher Tiarra Davis, former standouts Nadia Taylor and Brejae Washington and Lindsey (Stephens) Barrera, the school’s all-time leader in slugging percentage. Cat Osterman, who recently announced that she will participate in the 2019 USA Softball Women’s National Team Selections Trials, won’t pitch but will play defense. Among the Texas Exes who won’t play but will be in attendance are 2018 graduates Kristen Clark, Randel Leahy, Paige von Sprecken and Erica Wright.

The first pitch at McCombs Field is scheduled for 11 a.m. Admission is free, but fans at home can catch former Texas catcher Megan Willis on the Longhorn Network’s broadcast.

Overall, Texas expects 40 ex-players to be in attendance. Following the game, the Texas alumni will mix and mingle with the current players and new coach Mike White at a team BBQ. White was hired this summer to replace Connie Clark, who had led UT since its first softball season in 1996.

The alumni game will lead off the final week of UT’s fall schedule. Galveston College and Temple Community College will be in Austin for a double-header on Wednesday. In its fall finale on Friday, Texas will host a Texas State team that Osterman is an assistant coach on.

Having beaten LSU, St. Edward’s, McLennan Community College and Weatherford College, Texas is 4-0 this fall.

Alumni lost 9-7.   Good game,  great seeing former players.

The Alumni had a dinner with Coach Clark (in attendance as a spectator) Friday night and a dinner with the team after today's game.   Nice seeing the camaraderie same as baseball with Gus and Augie.

Game will be replayed on LHN tonight at 9,  tomorrow at 0730 and 1230.
