That’s a tough call. He won the ball and only had eyes for it. But it did endanger the opponent.

No it isn't, that's a straight red. Endangering the player is all that matters, playing the ball means nothing.

Someone help me understand the red. The Swede had equal right to the ball and got there first. His foot didn’t unnaturally linger maliciously.

Spikes were up and was uncontrollable. Good call by the ref.

pretty much this. spikes up, and the player has a responsibility for the safety of others on the field

spikes showing is never a good thing.

this is like slide tackling through a man to get the ball. defender may have gotten the ball, what he did to get it matters more.

Player safety is paramount. Danielson's studs up challenge was reckless and directly led to injury of another player. Whether he was playing the ball or got to the ball first is irrelevant.

There are lots of times where the ball is high off the ground between several players in a tight area. Maybe one of them could get to it first if he kicked up, but this is considered dangerous play for obvious reasons and could result in a straight red.

Ultimately, it is the player's responsibility to be safe. Danielson was not. About as deserved a straight red as you'll ever see.

if today is the price we have to pay for all of the craziness yesterday, so be it.  at least Engerland won.  and gets the "winner" of this slap fight.

Going to make it even more hilarious when Southgate puts out a defensive 5-3-2 again and England lose in PK’s to one of these teams.
