Kyle gibson was on the ticket a couple weeks ago and they asked him about this. He actual said right now he'd prefer humans to machines.

Said the current tech measures the ball at the very front of the plate (don't know how accurate that is) and that it would lead to batters moving way up in the box.

Said that while there are certainly wrong calls he doesn't think it's that big of a deal and evens out in the end.

Interesting take from a guy who does it for a living.

Maybe he has to say that to not piss off umps?

This is a really stupid take. First, the tech can judge the three dimensional zone. But more importantly, humans are more likely to just consider the front of the plate, the front of the plate has always been where the zone starts, and you don't see everyone moving up now. Completely nonsensical take.

It does beg the question on how much is tech used for quality control? Maybe that’s more important.

It might be but the league (and this is a problem in all of them) don’t have the most transparent QC process to their end customers (us).

Easiest way to solve that is open it up. Make umps/refs available to the press and show your work.

Never happen though.
