Sigh. If I had implied weed was the cause of psychotic behavior then you might have a point. For every off their meds or abusing them individual, or on something else for that matter, there’s some dipshit, low grade stoner smelling of MJ who can’t remember if the terminal carpet also suffices as a urinal. The larger point being that’s its not people showing up boozed to the airport as the poster I replied to suggested.

The drop off areas of damn near any airport has the distinctive skunk ass smell of  marijuana these days. And that has not remotely been the case in the past. I’m sure plenty of other drugs are being used too.

i would bet against weed. it's xanax plus booze plus mental illness.

This is not new and doesn't explain the rash of unruly behavior over the last few years..   Some of the uptick is that everyone has a camera and social media so every incident is documented publicly.

Your comment about legalized drugs seemed to indicate weed, as it's the only recreational drug that's been legalized since the end of prohibition.  Never seen a stoner so out of it they confused something for a urinal either...  That's the realm of alcoholics my flying friend.  Now forgetting where something or somewhere  is or big stupid stoned... sure seen that, done that...... siiiiiiiiiiiighhhhhhhhh........ and I'm gonna throw in a harrumph.....

Yeah, I never sit next to my wife. We're always across from each other on the aisle. If the kids are with us, one of us takes them for one leg while the other gets to sit alone. Then we reverse it on the way back. Of course, one downside to that is getting someone hefty next to you in that middle seat.

In fact you purchased the ticket for Mrs. mdmost.

Doesn't mean I want her sitting next to me does it?

I guess I'm missing your attempt at comedy here. My wife doesn't want to talk to me either during a flight. She wants to sit and read her book or magazine. She's not striking up conversations with random strangers. Get your own aisle seat if you don't want to worry about who you're in between.

Btw.  Airlines.  You aren't innocent in this issue.  You've made flying such a freaking beating with your fees, seat pitches, and legroom etc.   Treat your customers like cattle and don't be surprised if  they behave like cattle.

This. Stuff as many people as possible into a narrow metal tube and make them super uncomfortable. Don’t be overly surprised when someone inevitably boils over and loses their shit. Doesn’t excuse the shitty behavior, but it doesn't mean that it’s not unexpected. Add in the fact that people haven’t been in crowded spaces for over a year and you’re going to have this sort of thing happen.

I still remember when you were treated pretty damn good even if you were sitting in the back. It's dehumanized now.

I’m relatively confident that damn near anything goes in say Oregon. Having said that, if you had read the entirety of the posts weed was only a part of it. I mentioned off their meds or abusing them, this is often the case when someone is losing it, and weed is a well known gateway drug. I think it’s a combination thereof. Regardless, it has a distinctive smell, and it’s nearly universally present in my experiences with disruptive passengers.

I’ve had these conversations with coworkers several times before. The tie one on and go fly model of surviving airline service and seat pitches seems to be falling out of favor for showing up blazed and worse.

As an aside, you will rule the world if any one of you MF’s figures out how to make weed smell like menthol, a swisher sweet or the like instead of microwaved skunk anus.

im the first one who mentioned drugs in the thread and the first reply to me somehow  went to 420 as to what I was talking about.

holy shit... I live in austin people, im so used to MJ being around I dont even consider that a drug anymore... my point was about basically anything fucking harder than MJ.... the rest of the anti/pro MJ crowd ran with most of the rest of the posts.

guess I need to just say hard drugs next time...

Prison.  Yes.  This behavior is way the fuck more out of line than having some pot in your pocket.

Not sure how I'd react, but if I took it as a threat to our lives, either perp or myself or both are going to get fucked up.

First off, most plane misbehavior is a federal offense and subject to a hefty fine.  And I don't imagine most of them are welcome to fly for quite some time.

But then we have the prison/deterrence fallacy.

Generally speaking, a person who does this is off their rocker, either full time or as a result of drink or drugs.  Neither type is going to be particularly deterred by whatever consequences lie in store for them.  The mentally disturbed, for fairly obvious reasons, and, I rather doubt that most of the chemically impaired are really thinking things out in such a way that they intend to disrupt a flight or suffer the consequences.  It's a product of the loss of their faculties.

Fallacy?  I don't care about deterrence.  It's too late for that. Zero %  recidivism is the goal.

Well, then you better find some solution other than prison.  Because you probably just took a mentally ill or chemically dependent person, made them a virtually unemployable felon, and made them infinitely more likely to repeat the base behavior of being untreated mentally ill and abusing substances.

The point is not to imprison everyone.  Some people just need a fucking attention getter for bitchass behavior.

Then others want to enable said behavior by excusing it or searching for some underlying reason.  IDGAF.  Act right if you're going to be in public.

No, what happened is the MJ crowd got butthurt about their drug smelling. IDGAF if you use it or not, but I don’t want to smell it anymore than I want to sniff a used ashtray.

Ive just noticed that people don’t seem to be getting boozed to get by on an airplanes anymore, and that drugs, medicinal, recreational or harder for the triggered leaf heads, seems to be the cause. And that correlates nicely with smelling people toking up prior to checking in my experience.

No, potheads only aren’t charging flightdecks. Disruptive passengers doesn’t just mean the idiot throwing punches or making terroristic threats. That’s a very low percentage of the folks getting kicked off planes or met by law enforcement at the destination.

Yeah, this is real. Domestic flying almost anywhere is a nonstop ass kicking.

The absolute worst flight I flew on was a British Air (then) intra-EU flight. BA has gone to an all inflight purchase model and I was flying with six year old and four year old.  Typical connection, I didn’t have time to stop for snacks and drinks after toilets, hustling through security, etc.  I asked for some water and they quoted me some bullshit like three pounds for a bottled water.  I told the FA I just wanted a couple cups of water for the kids, she rolled her eyes and said she’d bring them after the meal and drink pay service finished. She did, and then stood next to our aisle. After I said “thank you,” she said “I’ll be waiting here sir, to make sure only your children drink this. If you’d like water that will be three pounds.”

I have to wonder what doing a job like that does to someone over time.

Cue someone posting a documented case of weed causing psychotic behavior.

Weed + schizophrenia is a bad combo. Now whether it causes the behavior or enhances it, no idea.

You fucking people. A la carte pricing is what you asked for. You can thank swa, that most of y'all beat off to, for the domestic market service level.

Wat? At what point did SWA stop offering two checked bags, a coke/coffee/water and pretzels in their fare? Oh yeah, and no change fees or cancellation fees.

Clearly they forced all the other airlines into their fee bullshit.

No definitely not. And I won't say a woman couldn't have helped. But the women and gimps who talk about TM would not have been the one to step up.

And it's not a political thing but more of a generational, close mind thing.

And I will acknowledge that I've been drinking and cooking all day. So I don't remember another post.

Seemed like this shit was going even before the rona. Late 2019 I was on a flight from DCA to SEA and this mid-twenties girl dressed like a slob (no pics and that’s fine believe me) gets on dragging a giant unicorn pillow, laptop, carryon, purse, etc. Sits in my row, I’m in window and a guy maybe in his early thirties is in middle. A very clearly gay flight attendant tells her she needs to stow the pillow and shit because she is blocking the aisle and seat row. She rolls her eyes and puts on headphones. He comes back by, tell her again, she says “I want this with me.”  And starts texting someone.

Flight attendant comes back a third time, she’s still texting, she calls him a “f—-t” and still refuses to do anything. Fourth time he comes back with a giant cop who tells her to GTFO the plane. She points at me and the dude next to me to vouch for her that she “didn’t do anything,” but my name’s Bennett and I ain’t in it.  The cop escorted her off with her dumbass pillow and her shouting homophobic shit the whole way.

Sorry for partying?

It ain’t weed. Alcohol is one hell of a drug. Maybe coke or meth snorted. But my money would be on alcohol.

My worst panic attacks ever have been from weed. But not the type of panic attack that would result in one wanting to hijack a plane. Maybe "I need to get off this plane" but not "I'm going to assault some flight attendants".

My worst psychoses have definitely been alcohol induced. It is sure as shit one hell of a drug. Throw in some xanax and shit can get real weird. I've heard plenty of crazy meth stories, too, but have never done it.

Coke makes me do some wild shit but I've always found it keeps me sharp enough that I'm not losing touch with reality or tripping balls. This doesn't sound like a case of cocaine use at all.

With enough flights and people in the air everyday, I imagine there is always some daily incident occurring. The mask mandate does appear to have added an additional point of contention for some. I bet there are a few people that openly plan to wear a mask up to the point the plane leaves the ground, and then they will take them off. "Can't toss me out"

These should be the rules:

  • you get 1 warning to wear the mask.
  • second warning, you're banned from the airline including any return flight. Open seating with SWA creates problems identifying the passenger but not impossible.
  • third warning is that the plane lands, perhaps even at the destination, and the airlines requests law enforcement.
