Just wanted to share that Cam Williams is putting comments like this on TexasBaseball Instagram posts.

Cam is really intense. I remember some commentator said that Brooks Kieschnick played baseball with the mentality of a linebacker and I think Cam has some of that going on.

Love him, when he is not getting picked off second base anyway.

Looked up MSU stats and they are very similar to ours offensively.  The one pitcher to watch for is Landon Sims, who has been used as a reliever.

We are familiar.  He was like a buzzsaw against our lineup to start the season.

Mississippi State has 744 strikeouts as a staff, we have 528... They have a couple of buzz saw’s. More than likely going to be a double digit strikeout day where timely hits (specifically a HR or two with a man on) and a great performance from Ty are going to be what gets it done.

Texas struck out too much against MaCleod but they also had 6 hits on him in 4 innings. Texas just didn't execute with guys on base.

Miss State's starting pitching seems very iffy.

I'm guessing Miss State is going to start Bednar? He's been struggling recently so not sure what Miss State does against Texas.

Here are Miss State's Friday/Saturday guys the last 3 starts.

MacLeod: 5 IP vs ND and 6 earned runs, 5.2 IP vs VCU and 4 earned runs, 4 IP vs Tennessee and 5 earned runs.

Bednar: 3 IP vs ND and 4 earned runs, 7 IP vs Samford and 2 earned runs, 2 IP vs Tennessee and 3 earned runs.

These guys strike out a bunch of hitters but they've really been struggling recently. Haven't been able to get deep in games at all.

Are you sure that wasn't during our first game of the season?

I'm still in "It don't make a shit." mode. Texas is going to fuck start their heads and win this side of the bracket 3-0. No idea on the Championship series, but we are going to win our side of the bracket. If not, "He Who Must Not Be Named" will fist himself, probably.

I’m actually a little nervous about miss st.  Tenn, ND, Arkansas? Not as much but something about misss st is scary.  They’re scrappy. It’ll be a dog fight. Our biggest advantage is pitching and bullpen depth which isn’t going to be as big a factor Sunday as it will be  Wednesday or Thursday. And our bats are infinitely better than they were back in February/March.

Ask Baylor about regular season vs Omaha against Texas. Yeah yeah Augie had us rolling but we’re Texas god dammit. Fucking @ztejas after a 3 day bender in Vegas could coast us to the finals

More and more, Tennessee and Virginia do not have the pitching to make it to the Finals.  They just don't.  You can get lucky and win one in Omaha on the backs of a hot starter or a lineup that goes for 8 runs (Tenn can certainly do that).  But their staffs are just not winning 4 games in 7 days.  Just not going to happen.  And as much as I think this team is a callback to Augie teams that would wait for you to fuck up and then throatfuck you with your mom's "favorite bat"...we could lose one in our own bracket.  But Mississippi State and Texas are going to play for this side of the bracket.  I like our chances on Sunday...but make no mistake...it's us and the Dawgs come Friday/Saturday for the chance to go to the finals.  I know Tennessee was a #3 national seed but they are not #3 pitching.  Maybe in a 1:1 situation or even a 3-game series, but they're not built to win 4 games this week.

In 69 hours...we ride...South Austin's Mom.  And then baseball.

I agree.  And I do like our chances a lot. But it us and the dawgs this week…. Until tree or nc state.

I would be really surprised if NC state comes out on top from that side of the bracket.

I would be completely shocked if N.C. State comes out of that bracket.  I can't see any way they get beyond Stanford, let alone the entire bracket.

But I look forward to watching those day games on that side this week.  Only downside to being "Bracket 2" this week is fewer excuses for day-drinking (all 6:00p start times).

If you do it right, you only have to win 3 games to make the championship series, chief.

Yeah, but that's my point.  Tennessee and Virginia are not only going to win our bracket in 3 games, they're also not built to go 4-1 in our bracket either---which is what it takes if you can't stay outta the loser's bracket.  So as Joe Pesci says in "Casino"......"so basically, I'm fucked?"  Yes, in so many words.

I think it's Texas over Mississippi State on Saturday, we advance at 3-1 to the Finals.

He reminds me of Earl Thomas. Like you appreciate his stoicism and dedication to winning but sometimes you wonder if he actually just might be crazy.

I'm good either way. Let's ride.

If we get 18k's against you again.. or anyone. it's hard to beat us.  Unless your pitcher does the same

I'm pretty sure we are throwing Bednar out for the game vs y'all.  but not certain. He's just better than C Mac is right now I believe.

Sims usually only comes in when we have the lead.

We have stuck out double digit batters in 49 of 61 games.

i don't know why anybody feels good about our chances this year.

we have to play an SEC team in our first game.  an SEC team!  you just don't beat SEC teams in Omaha.

and if we are lucky enough to beat MSU, then we'll probably play another SEC team - Tennessee.  are you kidding me?  we have to go through 2 SEC teams to make it out of our half of the bracket?

and if the gods are with us and a miracle happens, who would we likely face in the finals? you got it.  the best SEC team of them all - Vanderbilt.  oh hell no.

we are DOOOOOOOOOOMED.

The eight coaches who will man the dugouts at TD Ameritrade Park beginning Saturday make a good bit of it, albeit less than they would have prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, as more than half took pay reductions this year.

Here's a breakdown of each coach's scheduled annual compensation, which does not include bonuses or the value of benefits and perks:

Total scheduled annual compensation of coaches at College World Series

Vanderbilt's Tim Corbin: $1.2 million (this was Corbin's base salary for 2019 calendar year, according to the school’s most recent federal tax records. Exact terms of his contract are not known.)

Arizona's Jay Johnson: $856,687 (after 20% COVID-19 pay reduction in effect from Aug. 10, 2020 through Dec. 27, 2020. Includes $302,300 as value of coach’s annual vesting in longevity fund units held by the University of Arizona Foundation on behalf of the university’s athletics department, as well as $65,000 paid from agreement with Nike.)

Virginia's Brian O'Connor: $765,530 (after 10% COVID-19reduction in scheduled pay for current contract year in effect from July 1, 2020 through Dec. 24, 2020. Does not include money university is obligated to pay from agreement with Rawlings. He also earned a longevity bonus of $500,000 for staying on as coach from June 15, 2016, to June 1 of this year.)

 Mississippi State's Chris Lemonis: $750,000

Texas's David Pierce: $731,250 (after reduction of $118,750 due to COVID-19)

Tennessee's Tony Vitello: $550,000 (after reduction of $50,000 due to COVID-19)

 N.C. State's Elliott Avent: $434,833 (after reduction of $65,166 due to COVID-19)

Stanford's David Esquer: N/A (Stanford is a private school and therefore not subject to public records laws. Esquer's salary does not rank among the top five at the university, which means it does not appear on the school's federal tax records.)

I actually don’t think our side of bracket is that tough. I think we cruise to the finals. We will play the winner of Vandy or Arizona - I don’t think any of the other 5 schools have much of a chance if the teams play like they’re capable of (which of course happens a lot in baseball). Yes, I think we have a much easier path than Vanderbilt.

The amount of attention Rocker and Leiter get has got to irk our guys. We have the best staff in Omaha.  It’s not close.

We will probably be playing Miss St, Tenn twice, and then either Vandy or Arizona will be a 3 game series. Vandy will beat Arizona tomorrow, Arizona will come out of losers’ bracket and the most interesting thing to me is how they handle Vandy after each Rocker and Leiter have pitched. They have the best O in Omaha, and Vandy doesn’t have anyone close to Hansen, Quintanilla or Nixon.

Yeah I’m going to have to disagree on Vanderbilt having no one close to Quintanilla or Nixon. They have 3 guys in their pen with 20+ innings and sub 3 ERAs. Highest batting avg against the 3 is .203.

Only weakness for them is they don’t have a 3rd starter which is a mute point if they start 2-0. If they lose one of the first 2 they could be in trouble but the same could be said for any team that loses one of their first 2 because you are now going to have to play 5 games so somebody is going to have to step up (I.e. Chad Hollingsworth)
