Bad pitch selection there. He barreled up the breaking ball, just a bit early. He was behind and under the fastball for the second strike earlier in the at-bat. Needed to try one more high fastball there.

That chin and upper arm tells me she’s got about 3-5 years before ballooning up. Get your licks in while you can, boys.

There we go kid!

2-0 Vandy now. Probably not enough to pull Rocker. I hope anyway.

Like they were discussing, they are planning to piece tomorrow together with the bullpen, so not sure they want to pull Rocker right now anyway.

yeah I think Rocker goes another inning.

I mean once you get up to 50 or 60 pitches there is not much to be gained by yanking him is there? I don't know.

I think he's the Wednesday starter no matter what at this point.

Hypothetically, if this gets out of hand, could NC State forfeit rather than start to burn up their very limited pitching staff? Ideally after Rocker throws 80+.

Yes

They could lose to NC State and he will be sitting at home in Tennessee getting ready to get drafted by the Rangers.

Yep that could have gotten out of hand in a hurry. I think a lot depends on what they do in this next half inning with the meat of their lineup in terms of their decision on Payne.

If they are throwing Highfill tomorrow, and they should, they will probably concede this game and just leave this kid out there as long as he can go to save their bullpen. Kind of like what they did against Arkansas in the Supers.

Just need to find somebody to play 1B.

I don't think so.  I feel like that would've happened before in another series.  Its to Vandy's benefit to play 9 innings.  You can't punish them for scoring too much.

Announcers said they could.  But announcers also suck ass, so who knows.

And even if they make the championship series, there's no guarantee it lasts until Wednesday.  But you get the point.

Interesting.  You think you'd see that happen more often.  Like NCST vs. Arkansas in Game 1.  Or just about every regional where arms are so important.

I could see them allowing it if you were out of pitchers to avoid injury. I doubt you can just do it if you have pitchers left.

Jesus. Brutal. Even if somebody dies or something you cannot replace him? Or is that just for COVID-19?

Vanderbilt is so freaking lucky man. Crazy.

I’m not sure it matters that much what Vandy does with regard to pitching Rockler today. They can leave him in and pitch him next week. All they need to do is insure they avoid elimination today, and tee it up the next game against a team that is personnel deficient and mindfucked after what has occurred. Hope I’m wrong.

I read the rules and it looks like you can simply refuse to continuing playing and forfeit in the NCAA.  Now why doesn't that happen?  I'm guessing 1.  The message it sends to your team isn't something coaches want to do and 2.  Fans would be livid.

Yeah, could’ve been them getting the COVID gift (that doesn’t sound right, does it).
