Alcindor graduated from HS in 1965.

Thanks for correcting my timeline. So Alcindor would have been about nine years old in 1956 and in fifth grade or so; not High School. The rest of the story about his #33 from Giant Steps is correct I'm pretty sure.

And do you know that baby’s name?  Albert Einstein Sarkisian.  Forward this to all your friends and grandchildren when they lose faith!

His secretary's name? Johnna Wilkes Booth Lincoln Kennedy, whose great grandson was a dominant Defensive Tackle at Miami.

The 1953 New York Giants were horrible. 3-9 and last place even though they had five Pro-football Hall of Fame players on the rooster: Frank Gifford RB, Emlen Tunnell DB, Tom Landry DB/P, Arnie Weinmeister DT; Rosey Brown OT; and Charlie Conerly QB (College Football Hall of Fame), plus All-Pro Kyle Rote WR.

In 1954 Tim Mara hired an assistant coach from Army to be the Offensive Coordinator. That assistant was Vince Lombardi. Mara also made Tom Landry the Defensive Coordinator (player/coach). Vince Lombardi and Tom Landry, under Head Coach Jim Lee Howell took that 3-9 last place team to 7-5 and 3rd place. In 1955 they went 6-5-1 and again 3rd place.

In 1956 Tom Landry and Vince Lombardi (Howell HC) won the NFL Championship.  Two of the greatest football coaches of all time needed the third year to win a championship.  That 1956 NY Giants Championship team had five Pro-football Hall of Fame players on the rooster: Frank Gifford RB, Emlen Tunnell DB, Sam Huff LB, Andy Robustelli DT, Rosey Brown OT; and Charlie Conerly QB (College Football Hall of Fame), plus All-Pro Kyle Rote WR and Rosey Grier DT.

In 1904 Texas lost to The University of Chicago 68-0. Their coach was Amos Alonzo Stagg. As you all know, Chicago's QB was Clarence Buttermilk, who is easily one of the top 50 Half Polish/Half Norwegian football players to ever come out of the Ohio Valley. Not a single offensive lineman weighed over 100 lbs. However, the Maroons overcame 7 straight losing seasons to beat Texas because of a Freshman WR who couldn't be covered. That man was Lew Alcindor (who later was known as Prince and sold a million albums). The moral of the story is this: don't ever underestimate the heart of a champion.

From Gerry re: Diamonte Tucker-Dorsey

Quote

Inside Texas spoke with the source on James Madison transfer linebacker Diamonte Tucker-Dorsey Wednesday morning. The 5-foot-10.5, 215-pound FCS All-American playmaker is on campus at Texas right now. As of today, the decision will be between Texas and UCF. All five visits are not expected to happen. The feeling from the source is Texas would be the best place for Tucker-Dorsey for various reasons. If there is a twist late in this recruitment, it will be a very familiar name. That name is USC. People with NIL on the USC front reached out to Tucker-Dorsey’s circle in the last 48 hours. Another Texas vs. USC battle could take place. That will be known in the next 24 hours if things move forward with the Trojans.

Roach put in a CB for the JMU transfer LB to the good guys. 7 confidence.

I think we’d be better off if these 9.95ers just shut the fuck up for a while and don’t predict shit.

so out of the LBs that hit the portal we are down to a battle with UCF for one from JMU? Jeez. Choate is really killing himself.

Could he not find a transfer from West by Southwest University of Idaho to pull from?

You know you're height challenged if every half-inch needs mention. Speaking from experience, obviously.

Roach is an idiot. I read on Twitter that Diamond Tucker-Ducker is no longer on the Texas roster. He also took all of his Hobbit porn off of social media. Advantage USC.

I keep seeing references to massive roster turnover in the off-season. I’d be interested to see the quantity and quality of offense vs defense on that turnover.

Our defense was a shit show of epic proportions and I have zero faith in the defensive staff until they demonstrate competency.

TL;DR Lost multiple crappy offensive players, replaced them with multiple great ones. Lost several crappy defensive players, replaced them with one great one... and not much else.

Whoa ... feels like a bizarre role reversal, but isn't it a little too sunshine-y to label Watts "great"?

But you be your typically optimistic self, Satya. Someone has to be that.

USC just got a LB out of the portal from Utah.  Might be why they haven't engaged with Tucker-Dorsey.

Hopefully this speeds things up.

Article says may be a redshirt at USC for Tabo next year... he's a 2022 class guy with only spring football experience at utah.

Tabaracci is the third potential inside linebacker brought in by the Trojans via the transfer portal this offseason. That was clearly a position the new coaches saw as needing an infusion of depth and talent. USC lost last year’s leading tackler in Kana’i Mauga and had very little returning experience outside of Ralen Goforth. Second-year linebacker Raesjon Davis has immense potential and took a significant step forward this spring.

But the incoming reinforcements could set the tone at the two inside linebacker positions. Former Alabama linebacker Shane Lee immediately took on a leadership role after arriving at USC. And plenty is expected from former Arizona State linebacker Eric Gentry, who had a tremendous true freshman season.

Tabaracci is still getting accustomed to playing linebacker at this level. He was a standout running back for the Park City (Utah) Miners. He led the team with 1,188 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns. But he had just five tackles as a senior.

Making this move now could allow him to redshirt this season while learning behind Lee, Gentry, Goforth, Davis and others. But he’s also tremendously athletic and it’s tough to completely rule him out getting on the field in some capacity this year. This is a very solid addition for both the overall team speed, athleticism and toughness, as well as for future depth as Tabaracci has all four years of eligibility remaining.

That list is depressing af. Every single one of those guys downgraded. Combine them with the other 7 who haven’t found another school and that was 20% of our roster last year.

So you get depressed when flushing turds down the toilet?
