2022 Transfer Thread - It's the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)

Shame for Wiley, had high hopes for him.

pff grades have him as overall stagnant compared to last year and wildly inconsistent. He had some decent games that flashed his ability. Maybe if he didn't have to share time, he would have developed better.

The freshman will have some work to do.

Nahlin has some thoughts on Casey:

Spoiler

If you know what the prevailing narrative is, I’m telling you it’s the opposite.

He was not known to study an inordinate amount.

He was not known to be a great leader.

He was not wildly popular on the team. He was known to be arrogant.

We would have tweets from hyperventilating media sent to us from sources with crying-laughing emojis because their schtick was so ridiculous.

He also threatened to leave at the beginning of the year which is why Sark changed his long held approach of playing one QB.

And ... he was not even known to have an NIL deal from Inside Texas!

On one hand, Cards mom is still liking UT stuff as recently as two days ago. On the other hand, she may not have the best judgement in twitter likes

I prefer my women to be Cyndi instead of Cindy but I love high class escorts so no judgment

82 on scholarship or signed NLI.  This includes Ibraheem - but if the allegations are true you have to believe he's be gone.

Each transfer from this point (post Dec 15) opens up a portal spot.

I got us at 85 pending Dicker's formal announcement.

2018 - 8 remaining players + Dicker maybe

2019 - 9 remaining players

2020 - 18 remaining players

2021 - 23 remaining players

2022 - 27 incoming players

Yes, IT has a NIL deal with Card but everything he said is true. He was not widely respected and his dad was a master at manipulating narratives.

The defense nicknamed Casey QB2 a week into fall camp and the dude was known to be a big complainer behind the scenes.

I dislike Casey’s dad more than I dislike Casey because his dad is toxic and put Sark into a no-win situation by threatening to have his son go into the portal and be left with Ben Ballard and Charles Wright.

This team is better off without Casey and his dad as long as we can get just average QB play next year.

According to the NCAA, we could have up to 110 athletes on scholarship in 2021. I imagine it will be similar next year for COVID eligible seniors.

Quote

If the school is able to fund the maximum number of scholarships it can for the 2021-22 school year, they could have 110 athletes on scholarships. That means 25 returning seniors and 85 others.

So stop worrying about the numbers.

I bit my tongue all season because I can't say certain things on a public board, but I can confirm what Nahlin writes here - fwiw.  It is amazing to me what can accomplished with a few well placed fluff articles and some well spoken platitudes in interviews.

I’m not reading all that, but I’m assuming the extra scholarships over 85 are only for COVID super seniors who are using their extra COVID year to have an extra year of eligibility. Needless to say, we don’t have a ton of those

Are you suggesting the media covering this team Could be so easily manipulated?  I find that notion shocking with how hard they work and how well sourced all their stories are usually.

The fact Charles Thompson said this in an interview with Chip after this team won 5 games shows the culture will improve with Casey gone.

“Charles Thompson, who played quarterback at Oklahoma, said he's thankful to Sarkisian for giving Casey a chance to start at quarterback for the Longhorns. But Thompson added for Sarkisian "to say the job was 'open' after a guy starts 10 games and leads the Big 12 in passing touchdowns and breaks some school records while playing hurt in his first year as a starter, it just felt like there was no one in Casey's corner.”

Saban benched the QB who won a national championship a year before but Sark is not allowed to say there would be an open competition for the QB1 role in the offseason when none of our current QBs were consistent throughout the year?

This is asinine. Casey had a losing record. That alone implies that there will be an open competition

Doesn’t change the fact that he played half the season with a broken thumb or whatever that is still swollen double it’s normal size….  He was going to be a very good backup option.  This will be another Rising situation.

Thanks Mr Thompson.

returning seniors like Overshown and Jamison not being factored into the 85 cap helps, but the bigger constraint was always going to be the initial counter cap in a given signing cycle which the NCAA only increased by up to 7 on a 1:1 for any portal attrition for the cycle through 12/15/21. That would mean 32 for us plus any we could count back to '21 for unused initial counters in that cycle which is where the 33 number came from.

Brian Davis was on Austin radio this morning saying he thought Thompson might start 2022 as the starter because of his experience. I was laughing, “this guy thinks Thompson will be on the team next year?”. Four hours later and Thompson is in the portal. Davis is paid to cover Texas football for the local paper.

Brian Davis = @closetohumping??

Incorrect. "It will apply at the end of the first term (students who depart on or after the earlier of the last day of the school's fall term or Dec. 15, 2021, which is the first day of the early National Letter of Intent signing period)."

But, as CTJ and others have repeatedly pointed out, don't worry about the numbers. We'll be fine.
