Bumped.  We are switching it up this summer and going to Park City instead of Vail. We have driven to Vail from Austin the last three years.  Has worked out great.  The drive to Park City looks challenging in two days.  I’d do it no problem just me.  But unless we do it in 3 days and go through Colorado, most of that drive from Albuquerque to Park City looks fucking desolate.  Worried about everything one worries about with two kids that need to hit the head every two hours and an anxious wife who has seen too many “breakdown” movies.  This isn’t really us being cheap more than we like to bring a lot of stuff with us when we go - bikes, fishing poles, etc.  And it could be a ton of fun if done right, it seems.  Thoughts or advice?

Stick wife and kids on a plane and meet them there with all your gear.

Or, rent a truck or suburban. Wife won’t be as concerned with a breakdown and nothing is more satisfying than farting in someone else’s car and not giving a shit what your kids do in their backseat for 30 hours of driving.

We are here right now.  Drove to Santa Fe from Austin, then to Park City with a stop at Four Corners. We did rent a car, which worked great.

Second day drive was beautiful but it was a bitch, particularly between Four Corners and Moab.   Four corners was fun because I could make the joke about leaving my kid two states over before I realized where she was.

Summer tip - Skip the Epic Adventure stuff at the bottom of the main mountain. The lines are awful,  it’s way too expensive and it’s a la carte.  Go to Olympic Park.  $89 (still a lot) for all you can do in 3.5 hours.

I did the Olympic Bobsled too.  It was wild. The 59 seconds it took to get down felt like 10.

Took kids shore fishing at Jordanelle Reservoir.  They aren’t quite ready to fly fish but if anyone knows any other good fishing spots for kids within an hour of Park City, let me know.
