That’s how they do it in Venezuela & North Korea. Probably the same for the PLA in China.

Do you think the arrest above (where he was treated cordially and let go within an hour) was "pretty much the exact same thing" as police tracking down a youtuber in a residence and taking them god knows where for who knows how long?

Stop trying to f up this thread.

Considering we have the first amendment and are not under a Communist dictatorship. Yes. You except it in an authoritarian regime.

They are definitely fucking with cops and getting ballsy

Also, saw some pretty good throws.  Hopefully David Pierce has some folks looking at tape and can get some scouts down there.

Yes. No shirt and yellow shirt throwing side by side, in unison, look like those baseball improvement tapes from back in the day. Cuba is probably the last place you ever want to be stoned.

Yes Cheesewheel and baba, if you want to talk about communism go to the CR thread.

It is worth noting in this thread that commies think the capital of Texas is Austin, when every red-blooded American kid fighting a Soviet-backed Cuban invasion on U.S. soil knows that it's Houston.

Either way, when you cross that ol' Red River hoss, that just don't mean a thing, once you're down in Texas, Bob Wills is still the king!

At least it's an ethos | bavatuesdays

And the reddit explanation:

Walter is talking about the Nazi party in Germany, he is saying that although they had awful and misguided views, at least they have opinions, Nihilists on the other hand care about nothing. So "Say what you will about the tenets of national socialism but at least it's an ethos" is commenting on the fact that nihilists don't believe in anything.

A way to rephrase it: Say what you will about the views of the Nazi party, but at least they had views.

And Reddit for felt the need to explain that pretty obviously self explanatory bit of dialogue because .........?

People will do plenty of things to keep their family fed.

I think it's probably true as well - if the cops/soldiers were on the same rations that civilians are, pretty sure the cops/soldiers aren't going to be keen to keep the government in power.

are the videos from today or yesterday?

I'm being careful about who I get the videos from, and they are being posted the same day as far as I can tell.

One complication is that a lot of the videos are passing through multiple hands to protect identities of those filming them - apparently there are some clever ways to get them out of Cuba.

Really makes me wish we could air drop thousands of hot spots that can use SpaceX's orbital cluster fuck Starlink satellites or whatever.

There are a lot of rumors on social media that the cops and soldiers have joined with the civilians in the province of Camaguey, but it's hard to verify.

This is clearly Cuban cops letting them march, so this is pretty fucking huge, but no idea where it was taken (whether Camaguey as claimed or not)..

This is the kind of shit that sets of the sirens about the movement having some actual legs.

With all of the rumors about Venezuelan troops being sent to Cuba, along with Nicaraguan as well, a little reminder that Cuba did the same thing for Venezuela

https://foreignpolicy.com/2019/05/14/venezuelan-democracy-was-strangled-by-cuba/

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-venezuela-cuba-military-specialreport/special-report-how-cuba-taught-venezuela-to-quash-military-dissent-idUSKCN1VC1BX

I think it would actually be pretty fucking stupid to bring in Venezuelan troops.  The people are already really fucking pissed at the lack of food, medical care, electricity (they are having a heat wave, and no power = no A/C) and internet.

That same video is being shown as Santa Clara (different province).  No idea, I only speak American fluently.

Raul's daughter is the head of the Cuban National Center for Sex Education whose mission is "the development of a culture of sexuality that is full, pleasurable and responsible, as well as to promote the full exercise of sexual rights."

Now that's nepotism I could get behind.

His only son is a Colonel in the Interior Ministry (secret police, security, etc.) so yeah, if I'm the Castros, I'd be working overtime to shut this down.  Tomorrow is probably going to be bloody as hell.

And there's a major holiday on July 26 marking a big event in their rise to power, and I'm sure that's circled on everybody's calendar.

So "Fuck Cuba" is a slogan used by both sides?

I wonder why that is…(I know why but saying it CRs the thread). I’m impressed that the Cubans protesting are still going strong. No halfway measures—have to keep fighting.

My only speculation would be that we want them to stay and fight instead of coming here. I hope that if the position of the protestors becomes untenable, we will alter our position.

This article best explains it…unless the AP News is no longer considered a credible source.
