at 1:08 or so in that video is that chick bottomless or wearing skin colored leggings?

I saw a woman at the airport the other day with skin color matched leggings. I did a gd quadruple take, thought she was bold for going bottomless for a sec.

Obviously there are tracts of land larger than a typical home owner would have so resort corporations could come in and buy or lease property.

Cuba could be a gem of the Caribbean easily with a population that's so well educated, and hungry for those western consumer goods.

Definitely.  There'd probably be some money in setting up a small airline that only flies between Miami and Havana.

And you know all of the cruise lines out of Florida would make it a stop.

Not really my concern whether or not Cuba saw "real Communism" or whatever, just pointing out the obvious reality that we have spent decades actively suppressing their economic potential and our sheep population pays zero attention and just nods along to what the news media tells them.

Take it to the CR.

Jesus, folks.  It isn't that hard.

So if they've detained and made 80 disappear, the number is probably more like 800, right?

Saw an interesting comment that Fidel ruled with charisma, Raul ruled with fear, and nobody is enthralled with or fears the current guy.

Also, lot more cop cars are getting flipped, etc.  If they start to lose the police, I doubt the military can hold shit together.

Uuuuuuuuuuuge tracts.....

Miami, Manhattan,  cruise lines out of Miami. It would be Vegas' worst nightmare come true.

Here is what I would like to see.

OAS Supported food drive run out of Gitmo. US Serves as the logistics lead only. Bring in Latin American peacekeepers, namely the Argentines and Brazilians since they have experience. They run food convoys. Our military never leaves the base unless one of the food convoys needs to be supported. Maintain a Quick Reaction Force to support them when needed.

Nah.  I think Vegas would do just fine.

I think it would put a serious kink in their revenue. Let's see. Cuba, beaches, tropical location, same gambling experience, same shows, 1 hour away, golf year round  or Vegas 3-6 hours away, hot as shit, in the middle of nowhere still.  It's Vegas, and they do it well,  but it would be a huge competitor for them in this hemisphere.

i'm pretty indifferent, but this thread has a number of reported posts that i'm basically ignoring to keep it here.

I like it.

If we can do the Berlin Airlift, we can handle this.

For the Cubans:

Offer humanitarian aid. Kill them with love and allow the leaders to save face as a new market emerges. I am sure the people of Cuba prefer to be lifted from the haze of the 1950's.

Cuba (like Miami) is hot and steamy during the summer.  Plus it thunderstorms almost every afternoon.

I don't disagree that it would create competition, but it's not like the Bahamas or other Caribbean nations don't have casinos.

Este.

There are some things in this thread worth keeping in DT.  If B_T and GRHorn can control themselves there's no reason why we can't have an apolitical news thread here.

this is a weird thing for me too.

yall always claim that cr is a shit show, but you want to have your cloak room in here sometimes. this is for news. want to talk policy shit? go on to the cloak room.

i wish it wasn't this way, but it is.

tumblr_nk1hakraMW1tk496vo9_250.gif

If it's not in the CR the CR needs to stay out of the conversation.  I personally invoked Nixons name, but it was meant as a play on forrest gumps "that damn Johnson" comment, and in no way was meant as a political comment.

But there are some posters who just seem to want to make it go CR.

How long did we stay in Berlin post airlift?  How many decades?  Are we prepared to make that same investment in time?  And would they want us around for that amount of time?

Yeah fair point on the rain/humidity issue. Those casinos are in no way much like Vegas .  I'm talking the 50's, mafia casinos that were built right before the revolution. Those were pretty amazing structures based on a couple books I've read that dealt with that era.

We were already in Berlin and not sure they can be expanded. This does not have to be a 15 year engagement. Solve the immediate food crisis without giving control to the current government. Get the clinics up and running. Takes 1 year to stabilize, then build a plan for international investment.

Would love to respond in substance, but it appears that is inappropriate in this forum. Good question though.

How do you get anything into a country locking down by the very regime everyone wants out?  Martial law is going to lock the entire island down.  This is going to be dicey and I think a lot of these protestors are going to "disappear" by the thousands.  This may be more akin to Bosnia and Herzegovina as the atrocities are going to mount.

Food and medicine are fine and needed, but is about decades of abuse and oppression.  You'll just helping get them to half-time and refuel.  What happens when bullets start flying?  In Berlin we had a base of operations.  Outside of Gitmo, that luxury isn't there?  Just random airdrops?  How is it distrubuted?

That is why I said earlier to use Latin American peacekeepers to move food. Use their school system as the distribution points. The regime could not stop it as an OAS mandate could be pushed through. Would look really bad for them to have images of Brazilian or Argentines delivering aid to be halted.

Also, the Cuban military is really not like the Serbs anymore. Their last combat troops are probably retired since Angola was a long time ago. They can repress in the cities, but not stop peacekeepers.

My fear is it won't be like Bosnia, but like El Salvador with a slow burning insurgency coming out of the mountains. That would lead to the regime killing lots and lots.

I hope their protests hold together. It’s both a scary moment and a beautiful one. I’m scared for the people right now. I’m on the side of the protestors obviously. If there are ways to help them I’d definitely donate what I can…which isn’t much.

That Mia Khalifa woman and her tweets on this are pretty fucking awesome.

one thing I miss about living in Dallas is some of the Cuban restaurants…

my apologies to the mods and my fellow posters for stream of consciousness political talk. Believe or not I try very hard to regulate myself. At least I don’t report posts in retaliation or whatever. As a former mod on another site I understand. It’s why I’ve never reported a post as a surly. It’s annoying as fuck to deal with as a mod. It’s why we can’t have nice things… sigh…

Not attributing, just looking at the logistics.  How do we "help"?  Start landing boats in the harbor loaded with supplies?  We have no infrastructure on the ground to help distribute.  We saw this is Somalia - warlords and crime gangs just took everything and the people still starved.  You have to have a presence.  Do run all this out of Gitmo?

We're obviously helping one group in their endeavors to overthrow the incumbent.  We can discuss without taking sides - so how does the incumbent react?   What happens if they sink a ship, or fire on US "aid" workers?

This is a shit show of bad choices

It is, but something needs to happen or we see Haiti #2 coming at us.

Infrastructure is there. It just needs to be controlled. The OAS could take the lead which is better than the US doing it on our own. Use the Canadian Army to open up the ports. We just provide the food/meds.

Yeah, that's a better example.  I'd think they have enough Eastern bloc supplied toys to at least make large scale operations dicey, especially if they attack them directly.  They have a navy.  They have guns and old missiles - not great, but they have them.

We should be able to discuss current events in DT, without certain posters deliberately posting things to get it moved to CR.

I don't know why they are trying to drive it to the CR for whatever reason (and it would probably be better discussed in CR).

But they could start their own CR thread about this, and completely ignore this thread.

Many of us go into the Other Sports forum and somehow manage to ignore the sports threads we aren't interested in.
