I thought your post was a trolling joke but then I read this, this AM:

Monkeypox has been endemic in sub-Saharan Africa for decades, but this summer it’s exploded in regions where it previously hadn’t circulated. Since May, the virus has infected more than 16,000 people across more than 70 countries, according to the CDC.

99% of cases outside of Africa are men, and 98% of cases have been found in men who have sex with other men—particularly those who have multiple sexual partners, according to the WHO.

The agency warned against the stigmatization of this group, and suggested that by providing information and resources targeted to the community, the outbreak could be contained.

Yeah I think it’s pretty clear that this is not a public health emergency. It just has a creepy name. It’s a non lethal STD spread amongst a small sliver of the population. Provide education on prevention and detection to that group.

I think we’d all like an understanding of what it is then because I honestly can’t figure it out. Could be 100% wrong about this, but I think most people are assuming it’s typical over-hyping after a big event (i.e., Covid). Like every potential tropical storm the first summer after Harvey/Katrina/etc.

This isn’t true.

What is it about a certain population that causes them to make up 98% of cases? Is it some genetic susceptibility? Or is it something else that makes them vulnerable to it and helps them transmit the virus?

What does this have to do with your previous false claim that it’s an STD?

Can someone learn me on monkeypox what the hell is going on with this shit.

Can spread a few ways:

Quote
  • Monkeypox can spread to anyone through close, personal, often skin-to-skin contact, including:
    • Direct contact with monkeypox rash, scabs, or body fluids from a person with monkeypox.
    • Touching objects, fabrics (clothing, bedding, or towels), and surfaces that have been used by someone with monkeypox.
    • Contact with respiratory secretions.
  • This direct contact can happen during intimate contact, including:
    • Oral, anal, and vaginal sex or touching the genitals (penis, testicles, labia, and vagina) or anus (butthole) of a person with monkeypox.
    • Hugging, massage, and kissing.
    • Prolonged face-to-face contact.
    • Touching fabrics and objects during sex that were used by a person with monkeypox and that have not been disinfected, such as bedding, towels, fetish gear, and sex toys.
  • A pregnant person can spread the virus to their fetus through the placenta.

so no, it’s not a STI/STD because you can get it just from rubbing up against someone at a bar or on a plane if they have it and the rash or scabs touch you. But, you can also get it from sheets and towels that haven’t been clean and someone with monkeypox has been on said sheets/towels.  (Some of y’all’s nasty ass hotels don’t clean their linens erreyday and you know it)

You could probably even get it (based on the info above from the CDC) from someone at the gym if they’ve touch something and have those sores/rashes on their hands or body.

One of the biggest outbreaks here in the Bay Area came from people who were at a crowded ass bar.

And it doesn’t seem like America was fucking prepared for this either.  That is where a lot of anger is coming from, especially considered what we just went through with COVID and those vaccines.  Always better to be over prepared than underprepared but alas, America is fucking that up too.

Is it literally a STD? Like only transmitted by sexual contact? No.

For all intents and purposes is it a STD? Yes. Why does infection and transmission happen in one population? How is it transmitted between them?

Poxviruses are oval-shaped viruses with large double-stranded DNA genomes. Poxvirus infections typically result in the formation of lesions, skin nodules, or disseminated rash. Infection in humans usually occurs due to contact with contaminated animals, people, or materials.

Monkeypox is a Poxvirus in the same family of viruses as variola virus, the virus that causes smallpox. Monkeypox symptoms are similar to smallpox symptoms, but milder, and monkeypox is rarely fatal. It is spread by direct contact or indirect contact and illness lasts about 2-4 weeks. A person with monkeypox can spread it to others from the time symptoms start until the rash has fully healed and a fresh layer of skin has formed.

Once again, you’re purposely choosing to be stupid.  It’s not only transmitted via sexual contact, and straight people are getting it as well.  It’s not only in just one population.  You can take that shit somewhere else.

You can get monkeypox from rubbing up against someone at the club. You can’t get HIV or chlamydia that way.

You’re choosing to be the well Ackschually guy. Percentage of cases that are in the gay/bisexual male population are in the very upper 90s according to the WHO. It’s ok to admit that and tailor public health messaging in the best way to combat spread. Arguing that it’s not is kind of weird and just fear mongering outside of that population.

I have zero worries about monkeypox and neither should most people.

The CDC put out information on monkey pox that included the terms “butthole” and “fetish gear”?

Seems like America is somewhat prepared if a scientific federal agency is embracing the lingo of people having the most unprotected random sex or slobbering over each other at clubs.

What are the actual US case numbers? I can't really find them.

From a few days ago.

3,500 cases as of a week ago.

Also,

“The WHO’s monkeypox expert, Rosamund Lewis, said men who have sex with men are the group at the highest risk of infection right now. About 99% of cases are among men, and at least 95% of those patients are men who have sex with men, Lewis said.”

“Experts have not been able to conclude whether monkeypox represents a new type of sexually transmitted infection, though it is clearly transmissible during sex, according to Andy Seale, an advisor to the WHO who specializes in STIs. It’s also unclear whether condoms would help reduce the risk of infection because monkeypox spreads through close physical contact similar to herpes, Seale said.

“The critical piece is really focusing in on close, intimate personal contact, prolonged contact that happens during sex as the key mode of transmission,” Seale said. Scientists in Spain and Italy detected monkeypox DNA in semen samples from patients, though it’s unclear whether the virus is actually spreading that way.”

So butt fucking definitely spreads it, but there's plenty of other shit if you see someone with fucked up skin or blisters don't use the same sheets as them or run into them at a close contact position for more than just a brush by. Like grinding with a chick or something that had it on her wrist.

Got it. So people don't know they have it? Or are people that have it intentionally just not giving a shit?

It’s supposed to be painful, but maybe it isn’t at first so maybe that’s when you could get infected? 1% of cases are women so there’s 35 American females out there struggling with monkeypox. If you happen to grind up on one of them and catch it then it’s extremely bad luck.

I’m guessing it’s a lot of people not giving a shit though. That’s how sexually transmitted infections get around.

Sounds like it’s a whole lot of fucking around and finding out/ and possibly not giving a shit?

From the CDC:

“Monkeypox symptoms usually start within 3 weeks of exposure to the virus. If someone has flu-like symptoms, they will usually develop a rash 1-4 days later. Monkeypox can be spread from the time symptoms start until the rash has healed, all scabs have fallen off, and a fresh layer of skin has formed.”

My take on this is a whole lot of not giving a fuck and fucking but I guess that’s being too judgy? You’d have to be living under a massive rock not to know monkeypox is out there and at least the main way it’s spreading (we know about sheets, towels and such.)

Remember it starts out as a rash.  So you can have a rash anywhere on the body and not know it or not realize it.  You also have fever, chills, could have a sore throat, or a cough and just think it’s nothing more than a cold or possibly a sinus infection.

So yeah, if you don’t know you have a rash somewhere and go around touching things and people, that spreads it.  It’s also spread through respiratory secretions.

It’s not like someone looks like they have 1,402 bumps on their body to start off…those rashes turn into the (supposedly painful) bumps.

No one denied the percentage of cases in Gay/Bi (and DL) dudes. I just said it wasn’t 100% only confirmed to that group—you did.

Just own up to your bigotry if that’s how you choose to live your life.

I'm just curios about just how exactly we should have been prepared to handle this virus?  Should we have some sort of vaccine ready for all future unknown viruses?

You mean as long as people utilize free will and can travel? Yep. Short answer. Long answer: if you want to live dangerously it means a lot of time and resources will get spent in the hopes of saving you while you either purposely or accidentally fuck it up for someone else. That unfortunate person is just fucked the powers that be will try to twist the narrative around a flag pole to save and make excuses for the fucker fucking shit up.

I’m still pissed about the mega million thing and also gave up trying to find my high school friends in town (Amarillo) for a high school reunion a place to drink until 2 am. They are SOL so I have given up. I didn’t go to the reunion but I am living vicariously thru them.

I have been warning people for years that something like this could happen.  No one would listen. Then President Trump disbanded the African Buttsex Virus Task Force that Obama set up, and here we are. I hope you’re all happy.

I’d appreciate a public service announcement that goes like this: These are the ways that monkeypox can spread. Sex is the primary way. Is it too much of us to ask you with a rash to wait until your scabs fall off and new fresh skin is healed before you share sheets, towels, clothing, go to a club or fuck people? Is it? Can you just download a bunch of porn and whack off in the dark confines of your abode until all the scabs are gone?

IDK.  That is a pretty big ask of the affected population.

We should spend billions and promote a czar that declares whether things are scientific or not.

This is a big laugh to confident straight crowed but don't be surprised when there's a campaign to get everyone vaccinated.

Monkeypox detected in S.F. wastewater means this will become a zoonotic disease. Rats will have it, spread it everywhere and this becomes endemic. Smallpox is not zoonotic. This is.

San Francisco isn’t exactly a representative case study.

I'd take that job for less than a billion dollars and also would be very effective at it.  My public health advice would be to avoid orgies, especially gay ones (NTTAWWT), and to avoid contact with other people that exhibit a rash, if you exhibit a rash, or if you have been in close contact to others who have exhibited a rash.

And yet somehow, in Africa, where monkeypox has been around for the last 50 years the entire population doesn’t seem to have it. It hasn’t decimated the continent. It’s been relatively under control there.

It is in on the rise in Africa. The WHO should care more about Africans but they don’t. Case in point (distribution of Covid vaccinations.)

Interesting to note this (article link included):

“At the same time, researchers have been warning that cases of monkeypox in sub-Saharan Africa have been rising for years. In part, this is because countries stopped giving people vaccines against smallpox, which is caused by variola, a virus that is closely related to the one that causes monkeypox. Smallpox was eradicated in 1980 and vaccination was halted, meaning that the percentage of the population vulnerable to it — and thus to monkeypox — has been growing (see ‘Monkeypox cases rising in Africa’).“

https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-022-01686-z

TLDR: when the wonderful caring WHO stopped giving Africans the smallpox vaccination in 1980 (smallpox being more deadly than monkeypox) it left Africans vulnerable to monkeypox. Fucking sad.
