Seen any news about Bourbon St. recently?

I guess you missed the “or is supposed to be” reference to the new years news. I’ll give you a pass though, jimmyjazz, not like you’d know anything about New Orleans or you’d have named yourself jimmypelicans.

I'll take it on faith that you don't know the genesis of my user name.

The city of Austin should be a study 20 years from now in how to do every single thing wrong. The number of times I was angry that 6th St was closed to traffic was 0. The numbers of times I screamed AIDS!

Austin

Idiot

Driver

Syndrome

On nearly every other road that is identical to when I went to school in the late 90s is infinite

It seems like you’re missing or ignoring my references so I’ll leave you to it and not bring it up again tonight, tonight, tonight.

Do you seriously think I'm unaware of NO NBA team history?

Whether you know anything about legendary British punk bands is another question entirely.

Honest question I don't know, but do they close broadways street in Nashville weekend nights? Bourbon is closed in New Orleans or is supposed to be.

i haven't been on 6th in 15 years and really haven't partied down there in 20 so none of this actually affects me in the slightest. Was just thinking out loud the problems I could see with it, I think keeping the riff raff in the bars and not the streets during drinking hours is smart.

The times I’ve been on Lower Broadway in the last couple years it has been open to cars. Super fun to sit on a rooftop bar and watch bachelorette party after bachelorette party roll through in open air buses.

I’m pretty sure they do close it off for major events.

Nashville doesn't close Broadway to traffic typically outside NYE and perhaps July 4th. There are police and traffic monitoring nearly every intersection on heavy traffic times. There are specifically closed streets when the Predators play as Bridgestone Area in about a block or 2 from Broadway. There is always heavy police activity. They crowds keep moving and I rarely see riffraff causing issues outside of some silliness on side streets. Then it's usually just slow rolling while cranking jams. Maybe a little flex and tire spin. Nothing particularly fiendish. Pretty damn mellow. Think Austin 15-20 years ago. Which very well describes Nashville as a whole.

Why in the fuck would you want to drive down Sixth Street at night? Don't get shot at enough during your normal day?

I guess it makes it easier for kids from Killeen to do drive bys .

I haven't been on Dirty Sixth in several years, do they have drink vendors selling to people on the streets or is it "buy inside and take it to go"?

(I honestly don't remember where it's legal to have an open container in Austin.  Mine are open in my house or in a bar.)

I see a lot of people oneline bitching about the new experience and, as best as I can tell, they were the ones that would go down and just hang out and not go in and patronize bars or clubs.

I'm fairly certain open containers are illegal everywhere downtown or in any of the bar districts.

Probably still fairly accurate but that's 11 years old. I thought you weren't allowed to on SoCo - may have been a recent change. Assuming W 6th is included now as well.

This article is from 2020 and the areas look the same:

Cool cool. I guess the bar stretch on W 6th is included - looks like Lamar is the cutoff there.

I'm going to go drink publicly and harass tourists on SoCo - anyone wanna join?

Aaand you are correct. In October 2020, the city council voted to remove the restrictions on areas 2, 5, & 6:

Seems to be based on the homicide map that keeping the ban in place in section 5 might be good.

Can confirm you can drink legally on South Congress.  You go to the Tiny Grocer walk-up window and get a drink.

Lulz. Like the bullshit with Austin Water during Icepocalypse, someone prob forgot how to flip the switch to close the gate.

Lady Bird Lake levels dropping as Longhorn Dam gate gets stuck open

AUSTIN, Texas — Levels at Lady Bird Lake continue to drop after a gate at Longhorn Dam failed while in the open position on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Austin Water, crews were performing scheduled work when one of the nine gates failed, causing the lake level to begin dropping. As of 2 p.m., the water level was down by 1 foot and was continuing to drop. By around 5 p.m., the lake had dropped 2 feet.

The cause of the failure is under investigation.

Crews and contractors are working to manually stop the flow of water out of the dam, Austin Water said.

Austin Water says that the issue will not impact water or wastewater services for Austin Water customers. The water level at Lady Bird Lake will remain low until repairs can be completed.

Yeah so like I suspected those maps weren't accurate. 🤷

Man, thoughts and prayers for the Lake Travis folks.  Some dumbass with Austin Water screws the pooch royally, and costs Lake Travis another foot or two of water.  Maybe this would be a great time to drop Lake Austin for some much needed shoreline maintenance?

Poor Nicole. Now she's having to drag the bodies further to dump them in the lake.

Can't afford to take any more water from Lake Travis... this drop is the best opportunity for any clean-up that needs to occur for at least a year.

This is a problem with Lady Bird Lake aka Town Lake. Lake Travis is controlled by the LCRA. Longhorn Dam impounds Lady Bird Lake and is maintained by the City of Austin.

LCRA is who you want to own your dam, if you care about your dam functioning well.

Longhorn Dam (at the east end of downtown) has had problems in the past and has gotten stuck open and closed. It probably needs to be replaced.

When the dam is stuck open, the lake drains. When it’s stuck closed, the SRV statue takes a swim.

EVERY FUCKING MAJOR STREET

When you drive by, there is one dude working and 3 other dudes standing on the street watching him. That's the golden rule for every road construction project. 1 dude works, 3 dudes watch.
