Bury the power lines in the unused subway tunnels.  Problem solved.

If we build enough Gondola coverage we can use that infrastructure to also carry the power lines!

Teacher arrested on child porn charges taught as substitute at 20 Austin ISD schools

My grandson is a student at Doss and he casually mentioned that some sub was creating AI porn using actual students' likenesses.  To say that was unsettling understates it by quite a bit, on many levels.

I cannot tell you how much time I spent at Pillow for youth soccer.  Bad parking and just a bit too far a walk to grab a pre-match beer.  We tailgated.  Neighbors were bitchy.

My parents still live in the same house I grew up in, a couple blocks away, over by the skating rink.  My dad would gladly share a pregame youth soccer tailgating beer with you, but alas their house isn't close enough to have been a parking destination for you.

Pluckers or Trudy's (RIP) wouldn't have been a terrible walk, though.  I feel like my usual parking spot at Town & Country was probably about the same distance.

Oh yeah Waterloo too.  Or Cooter's depending on how old your kids were.  Or, Monterrey House, way back in the day. :)

Buddy's

We used to do a Burnet Road dive crawl for a friend of mine every year on his birthday.  Buddy's Place, Ginny's Lil Longhorn,  Poodle Dog, and Lala's.  Originally he rented a bus for all of us, then later we realized we could just take the #3 the whole way.  You've never seen folks as confused as the normal bus riders watching thirty or forty late 20s/early 30s pile onto the #3 to ride for 3/4 of a mile.  We also tended to overwhelm the regulars at Buddy's Place but after a couple of years they started expecting us.  Plus, some of us went there pretty regularly ourselves, anyway.

What would possess anyone to go to 6th Street at this point?

https://www.kxan.com/news/crime/4-injured-in-shooting-near-6th-street/

There are a ton of 6th St shenanigan videos on Youtube. Everyone of those videos basically have the same trashy people in them. It's the same demographic that you would see at street takeovers.

I'd be interested to see how much money those idiots spent on 6th street. I'm thinking not much.

I'd said it numerous times over the years. Gate off the whole area. Charge a $30 entry fee which then can be used at any of the bars/restaurants. Patrons aren't really incurring any additional costs that they probably wouldn't spend anyway.

That will quickly weed out the dipshits looking to loiter and start shit. Now they get to fight and shoot people for free. There aren't going to pay $30 for the privilege. They may want to but 3 of their broke ass friends aren't going to.

Speaking of street takeovers...

My wife and I were leaving east 6th street on Friday night around 10:30.  Drove down 7th, made it over and across 35 and then zig zagged back over to west 6th from Guadalupe to take it over to Mopac.  So right around the intersection of San Antonio and 6th we stopped at the light.  Waiting... waiting... light turns green but just as we're about to continue down 6th, two motorcycles go flying through the red... and then a few more and then tons of motorcycles/e-bikes are flying through the intersection, all running the red light traveling on San Antonio towards 5th street.  So, we just sat there and watched the lunacy until we saw two police cars (one was DPS) hauling ass with sirens blaring as they weaved through the masses of motorcycles.  Eventually the last ones went through, the police was gone and we continued on our merry way.

I have no idea WTF that was about and didn't see anything on the news.  Any ideas?

I played golf at Lions on Friday afternoon. Those motorcycle and ebike dipshits were riding through Lake Austin Blvd and Tarrytown doing the same shit. It's amazing that they kept doing that shit all through the night.

Saw a crew of the ebike types on Lamar Friday night.  I presume they were all over town.  There was a big gaggle of them, but it looked like they followed the traffic signals, only saw them for a bit.

Must be them except this gaggle was running the red, maybe to get away from hot pursuit!

Monterrey House was the origin of my love Mexican food as a child.  All these years later, I still look for that chalky leche quemada candy in the wax paper at Mexican joints. Rarely find it though.  But I was an interloper from the other side of Burnet. Wooten Warrior for life!

What type of bikes, hogs or racers? Texas Relays weekend used to be on the same weekend as some motorcycle get together.  That might've been it.

These are not ROT Rally motorcyclists in for one weekend a year. Austin has the same problem now every big city has of dirt bike 4 wheelers and other sport bike street take over rides.

ROT rally, that's what i was trying to remember. Do they still do that?  That'd be fun to see them roll up on a street takeover.

I think it's dead.  There are references to an event May 5-7 at Austin Speed Shop, but that's Monday-Wednesday, so . . . no?

Is anyone else getting hit up by Jose Garza for fundraising emails and texts?  I don’t know what fundraising entity sold him my contact information but it was wildly misspent.

These were e-bikes from all over Texas.  They had a big meetup here in Austin.

La Fiesta on North Loop with the big wall murals was our go to place.  Lee, the friendly guy, and Ralph, the grumpy guy, ran that place forever.  Choice of a free scoop of sherbet or a praline for dessert!

More than 100 felony cases since 2021 had bonds modified or charges dropped as a result of the Travis County District Attorney’s Office missing indictment deadlines, a KXAN investigation found so far.

Curious, if you donate $.01 via credit card, do they take a minimum transaction fee?  Giving them money forces them to fill out the donation register, thus the penny would be a thorn for them.

Garza would probably give your credit card info to some poor thief/rapist/murderer who needs a fresh start after having their charges dropped.

Wow, I had no idea. Seems like it went off the rails around covid and is pretty much dead. It was a huge event, which I did not realize started in 1995.

A link that provided some idea of how it went to shit:

Man, that's F-ed up.  I still remember the dude that supposedly got decapitated after flying off the Mopac bridge that hadn't been swept off since they spread sand for a random ice storm.  Still surprised the Austin Transportation Dept hasn't been sued into Bolivia not cleaning the overpasses like that.

I saw that last night.  Whomever runs against Garza needs to plaster this on every flat surface across the city.

Quote

[Since 2021 there have been] 120,000 cases [for reduced bonds and dispositions for felony offenses in Travis County]. So far, we’ve reviewed fewer than 2,000 cases and are continuing to comb through the others.

So far, KXAN has identified nearly 150 felony cases where missed indictment deadlines due to one of these three categories have been a factor in the process or outcome of the case. Many of those were first degree felonies, violent offenses or both.

An ER nurse I used to date called it the Rally Tally. The wagering on the over/under of Rally fatalities was more popular than March Madness brackets and Super Bowl squares.

Legos are serious business.

Man stole Lego sets from Toy Joy, threatened to shoot employee: APD

AUSTIN, Texas - The Austin Police Department is looking for a man they say stole several Lego sets from a North Austin toy store and threatened to shoot an employee.

What we know:

APD says the incident happened at around 8:20 p.m. on March 6 at the Toy Joy store on Burnet Road.

A man stole several boxes of Lego building sets, and police say when an employee tried to stop him, he threatened to shoot them.

Austin police have released photos and a description of the suspect.

He is described as a Middle Eastern male between 30 and 40 years old and between 5'7" to 5'8" tall with a medium build. He also has black hair and a full beard.

He was last seen wearing a black mid-length leather jacket, black jeans or pants, and black shoes.
