Left Behind: A Quick Dose Of Post Big 12 Reality

I think if Iowa St and BYU both win out, meet in the Big 12 CCG, then both will make the CFP. Especially if there is more losses accumulated by other teams. Kansas St would be an outside shot as a second team.

Nah, I’d bet a pizza on that not happening. An 8-4 Ole Miss gets in over an 11-1 non champ ISU or BYU. That’s how it was designed. Once OU/TX left and we somehow survived it was accepted as the new reality. Gotta win the CCG to make the CFP. We just wanted access and that’s what we got.

Personally unless there is some crazy shit going on I don't see a 3 loss team making a 12 team playoff. Much like a 2 loss team never made the 4 team playoff, it will be the same.

4 losses would be way too much to get in, regardless of the conference the team plays in.

OSU is playing at Baylor, and the game is on streaming. Baylor has a tremendous number of games on streaming.

The B12 has a Baylor, TCU and UH problem. Even in years where they have solid teams, fans don’t tune in. TT is just a little better, comparable to OSU, really. TCU and Baylor have played well over 100 games, for more than a century, and nobody (including their fans) really gives a shit.

The league needs those teams, it thinks, for the recruiting territory. I wonder, in this new era, if they really do, if a better B12 would drop a couple of them.

Maybe. If the Big XII runner up’s only loss is the CCG it’s possible but I just don’t see it happening. I doubt the scenario arises though, there will be a few losses from the top of the Big XII by the time the CCG comes around and enough 2-3 loss Big/Sec teams to avoid having to consider a 4 loss team.

It’s on streaming because both teams stink and the game has no relevance to the standings. Tech-TCU isn’t the fanciest matchup but it’s relevant to the standings and is on Big Fox. Baylor and UH should not have made the conference but shit happens and realignment has always been stupid as fuck so here we are (the old SWC schools brought Baylor along so can’t really blame us for their presence). I think TCU holds its own well enough despite a small alumni base but also likely would not have been promoted in a sane world of realignment.

Tech/TCU is on FOX only because ESPN got first pick this week and took Colorado/Cincy who are both 5-2.

FOX has no other inventory it can put in the time slot. I’ve said for over a year now, that this was the most beneficial arrangement that the Big 12 has over the ACC. Big 12 fans and BY can brag about their good deal/placement on FOX main (I think the exposure more than makes up for the dollars) but inventory like the Tech/TCU game is just the best remaining option for FOX, its not something to toot your horn about.

These three, SMU, and Rice are what contributed to the SWC's demise.

But, I still have nostalgia for the good ol' days. Leagues made sense geographically if not financially back then.

I don’t know. With the leagues so large, multiple teams can put up big records by not playing each other. BYU and ISU are undefeated and not scheduled to play. KSU has one loss (to BYU). Colorado has two (NU and KSU). ISU and KSU play late in the season.

If BYU and ISU stay undefeated, they meet in the CCG, and KSU would be the best win for each.

There will be CFP controversy

On the other hand, it's the B12, so nobody else will give a shit.

Tech fan friend is desperate for this to have been actively exploited as it would totally explain why they inexplicably lost to Baylol and TCU...not buying that quite yet but will be interesting to see if any further smoke comes from the Big 12 or any other leagues with helmet com security issues.

Fox needs something to take that slot since the Yankees ended the World Series before Game 7.

Ah, makes some sense. I'm calling a win for OSU tomorrow, despite a 250 yard performance from Skataboo (however its spelled).

Here's how I see it playing out...

K-State wins out, including a win at ISU.

BYU has a let down after destroying Utah and loses to Kansas.

KSU, ISU, BYU, and Colorado all finish 8-1. Who would go to the championship game?

No one, as usual.  Oh wait, you mean which teams would go.  I gotcha.

big 12 is not terrible. entertaining actually. but all I can think of is if we were in the big 12 we would absolutely run through that schedule with a bunch of stat games. I actually like keeping up with acc and big 12 conferences. one bid leagues fighting it out. each game is life and death.  awesome stuff.

Don’t be aggy. They aren’t great, but they aren’t terrible either. Those teams pulled upsets on us nearly every year from 2010-2022.

I said a bunch of stat games not all of them. I would fully expect we’d get more than our fair share of jihad games fine sir. I’m not one of those weirdos that says my conference can beat up yours. I believe certain top programs are good no matter what conference they’re in. And all the bottom dwellers are close to the same in power conferences.
