This is why Penn State was lobbying for the Big Ten to partially fund a larger runaway in state college (so the other teams can charter their directly). Flying in a ~200 person football program directly to State College requires multiple planes otherwise they have to take a big plane to Pittsburgh and then have to drive 2 hours.

This is fascinating because for decades JoePa actively worked against any plans to expand the local airport. He wanted to make travel to State College for other teams as difficult as possible.

I think the calculus changed when the Big Ten expanded out West.
