Fuck Utah. Most undeservedly arrogant fan base in America. Pulling for BYU to win the XII. The attitude of BYU fans and Utah are night and day different when it comes to their being in the XII.

I didn’t even see a really bad call. It was questionable sure but the corner had his hands all over the from the snap. Apparently the Utah DB’s were handsy all game and the BYU coaches were complaining to officials during the game.

Dude is going to either be looking for a new job or a new conference pretty quickly. Should have adhered to the 24hr say nothing rule at least.  If nothing else he's just assured they get screwed over by officials and conference forever.

Remember this is what the rig12 game is about, punishing teams and players out of spite, costing them significant sums of life altering money because well, they think it’s funny.

ESPN zoomed in on a replay and looked like Utah DB actually grabbed his facemask and twisted his head on the play.

I just that that replay. It looks like the correct call. Utah just looks like a bunch of sore losers.

I would think the bigger complaint would be the timeout called the play before.  None of the refs realized that a timeout had been called until after the play was basically over?

Whether everything was called right or not, I'm just glad we do not have to deal with Kevin Mar's crew anymore.

Why is Harlan so emotionally invested? I think all of the marriage of convenience emotions came out at once last night. Utah doesn’t want to be there and this is the first of many tantrums.

Exactly, I guess 2-4 sounds a lot better than 1-5 in conference...

Lock that in based on.. what? They barely have 1 team that’s deserving. They’re already getting something they don’t deserve in an automatic #4 seed with its bye. This is not the year for the B12 or ACC to be trying to lock in extra spots.

it’s possible for Texas, A&M, UGA, Bama, Tenn, Miss to all be 10-2 but yeah… the 2nd place B12 team (who? Fucking Colorado?) totally deserves in over one of them.

There aren’t 4 deserving Big 10 teams either, but no one questions that

They sure will if they’re having to choose between six 10-2 SEC teams. Suddenly everyone will remember than Penn State sucks and does a 1 loss Indiana REALLY deserve in over Texas?

 i think the opposite

utah are not big and evil

the rest of the rig will see this as "finally one of us stands up"

someone has to take the "big and evil" role

we're gone

the brethren got next

after all, they've been on this forum and it's precursors for 20 years screaming about how they are a massive side

during our history in the rig, the exact same situation did not result in a flag for us 1000 out of 1000 plays

I applaud the Utah AD. Everyone should be calling out how fucking shitty officiating has become. It’s so fucking bad

It’s utterly endemic in the entire sport.  There need to be full time well compensated officials that work for some central body - not a conference.  That way there’s no “school X needs to be kept unbeaten” bullshit.

That said, he’s Harlan is being a bitch.  Every conference has trash officials.  The P12 was just as bad as the Big 12.

Cool. Be sure and pick an example of an egregiously bad call because last night’s wasn’t it. Maybe go back and see the holding called on Texas DL vs OkState when he was pulled to the ground in that Charlie Strong debacle. Something like that.

who cares whether the call is good or not

i'm just loving the controversy since kevin mar's face was attached

We’ve gotten to be really good friends with a group of folks in SLC. They’re all former LDS members who went to BYU. Therefore, we are rooting for the Cougars. We were at a concert last night and got home in time to watch the last quarter and a half. The minute Mar’s face popped up on the screen, I texted one of the guys said, “Oh, I remember that guy from Texas games. Congrats — you’ve got the worst crew in the worst officiated conference in football tonight.”

I don't think the refs are getting worse or anything, it's just that it's so easy to find all of their errors since we're watching multi-angle 4k. The vast majority of their mistakes are completely understandable because the game moves fucking fast and it's a lot of judgment. The only actual fix is going to be more booth reviews (making everything reviewable) and the eventual march of "AI"/tech into the sport.

Coach Whittingham after the game:

Also:

However, I give respect to Utah's DC and named HC successor when Whit retires, Morgan Scalley, who handled himself well after the loss (one of the few). Utah's D played lights out and if they ever get OC and QB figured out they will be a force again.

You just want to recruit against him when he takes over

Utah has suspended defensive coordinator Morgan Scalley and launched an external investigation concerning a 2013 text message he sent that included a racial slur, Utes athletics director Mark Harlan announced Friday on social media.

Please keep the beatdown of Utah going and we'll see you in Arlington (I hope).

They can always go back to the pac. The big 10 doesn’t want them, and never, ever will, and the sooner they fucking accept it, maybe they can stop being such cunts. The AD could have made the same point venting frustration like every other coach and AD does from time to time without being a complete bitch.

I doubt the league was the intended audience. I imagine the fanbase was the intended audience

I'm really enjoying the new conference. It's exactly the middling shitshow that we expected with anyone beating anyone else every week. I think we fill that "We'll let's see what weird shit is happening in this conference"  void perfectly.

Exactly.  If this train wreck doesn’t entertain you, you don’t understand college football.

It will be interesting to see how many games are on TNT vs. Max.

TNT definitely better than ESPN+ (or cw, lol). Not a fan if any of the go exclusively to Max, just another service to buy, but whatever, this is the new world, better than nothing. It's clear that Disney was going to win that lawsuit, this was a way to save attorneys fees and maintain friendships with competitors it seems.

this is a great deal for the big 12 imo as increasing visibility is the biggest hurdle we have as a conference.  Desmond said the quiet part out loud on Saturday

Desmond is a massive part of our problem.  Or he's at least a symptom of it.  A lot of people have a negative opinion of the Big 12 BECAUSE of shit like this.  Notice how when people talk about TCU in 2022, they never say a fucking word about their convincing win over the Big 10 champion.  It's just all "Georgia beat them lifeless".

I don't think anyone expects to be put on the SEC's level, just knock this kind of shit off.
