And don't forget! Last season they were one win away from being in the SEC championship game. Juggernaut ('til November).

Are we sure aggy makes it in with 9 wins? Elko has made multiple public statements about aggy playing an easier OOC schedule, so they need to go 6-3 in conference. Without looking it up, I’m guessing they’ve broken 6 SEC wins in the Manziel Heisman season and the Covid season.

These idiots thinking they’re a playoff participation trophy locks every year is just another plank on the aggy rollercoaster. .

Of course 9 wins puts them in the playoffs. Not everyone can beat nicholls state in November at home after playing the grueling sec schedule.

Great stuff @Getafix.

Here's a characterization that they always use:

image.png.ca6af503569d4f308403d4e31d2e3b83.png

What does that mean exactly for an athletic department that has little achievement to point to for a quarter of a century? I feel like this must be their "we never lose, we just run out of time" or "we were outscored" for the 21st Century.

We didn't lose, we underachieved against a team we're clearly better than. If you can't say the word "lose" out loud, how do you face it?

I suppose underachieve would apply to a failure of their baseball team this year considering their ranking and expectations. I wonder if the realists doubting their head coach hire now voiced doubt at the time.

My favorite little fact that everyone over there has already forgotten was that Earley wasn’t even Schloss’s top assistant last year. He only became the “top” choice for the job once it became evident Weiner wasn’t an option.

I get what you're saying about their complete lack of accomplishments over generations and therefore constant unrealistic expectations.  However, I would submit that it really is mind boggling that they've been as inept as they have over their entire history in all sports given their resources (huge state school in the fertile recruiting grounds of Texas with ample funding and fan support).  I'd go so far as to say they're the biggest underachiever in all of college athletics and 2nd place isn't close.

He became top guy for the job after they were turned down by everyone they tried to go after and most of their top talent was going to transfer to us. As per usual, Aggie thought they can go out and hire a massive coaching name.

That was funny. And since Earley was the replacement of pure evil, he was ballyhooed as very image of pure Aggie goodness.

I wonder if the players started giving each other blowjobs prematurely and nobody was there to snap them into line.

Maybe who the coach is makes a difference. Anyway, there's a basketball assistant coach just waiting for Buzz to leave.

Through their entire history?

They were a smallish all male school with compulsory ROTC. They did have some resources and a fan base, but when everyone you recruit has to do ROTC drills and there are no women on campus, that's going to be an inherent problem with being competitive. Oh, and majors were very limited.

Doesn't change the last 50 years, though.

Cool story bro.  Now look up USNA and West Point’s success through the 1960s, when TAMU claims they couldn’t compete because they were small, all-male, and off fighting wars. I’ll wait.

So now we're comparing the prestige and national reach of Annapolis and West Point to College Station and sticking your arm up a cow's ass for your major?

The truth is A&M was an afterthought for Texas fans through most of its history. It couldn't compete. Now it's a diploma mill with a much larger student body than Texas, but they cling to their wacky traditions, most notably their hatred of the tsips, as their bonding agent.

I'm just saying it's unsurprising they were unable to compete for most of their history.

I’m just pointing out that being small, all-male and an actual military academy, with their guys fighting and winning wars for all of us, did not stop Army or Navy. And it should not be used as an excuse for pathetic TAMU.

It's a realistic reason why they weren't able to compete even with resources and a fan base. You seem angry at me for pointing that out.

Comparing a podunk out in the middle of nowhere university specializing in engineering and agriculture, providing a higher education to young males who often had no other realistic alternative because they came from rural non monied backgrounds, to Annapolis and West Point is beyond silly.

I feel no need to defend A&M. But I'd like to at least be a little realistic when we're criticizing them. For most of their existence they had no real shot at being consistently competitive. That's not a good excuse now, but for most of their history it is. They're still a weird cult that mythologizes themselves, and have throughout their existence.

Strange that you’re carrying TAMU’s water for them on maybe the most easily-dispelled excuses that they have for their lack of competitiveness.

Next, defend their stolen valor in claiming Horace Carswell as one of their MOH awardees despite the fact that he left TAMU after one year, and then went to, played football and lettered for, and graduated from TCU.

A&M was competitive in football until about 1950.  I suppose you can argue that the greater presence of women (the birth of the sexy term coeds) on most campuses began to have some effect. I don't know if what they were spending compares to the national mean over time, but outfitting a team and transporting them wasn't greatly expensive. SLX stands on pretty good ground for the later period.

Interestingly, when women arrive and corps participation is no longer required, A&M doesn't get much better unless they cheat like hell. When they stop cheating, their momentum carries them awhile, but it falls apart at the end of the century.

This century they have money, women, solid reputation as a college, and facilitiesfacilitiesfacilities, but they're mediocre even after collecting numerous sitting coaches from big programs including one who knows how to win a national championship. They're still the same Aggies.

Compare their time with resources and the time SLX describes (accurately) where there was a gap, and how significant is the difference in performance on the field? Not a whole lot but some for sure.

I think the Aggie claim , after telling you their school is and has always been better than everbody, about their disadvantages is overstated just like every thing else they say. To claim that you underachieve should require some record of achievement as the mark. They regularly meet the mark and fail to exceed it. They are who they are.

For those of you still reading this novel, my observation was that they substitute the word underchieve for the word lose. It fits their idiotic tradition that they never actually lose. Satan rises up to steal victory from the virtuous manly men of A&M. We are Satan's principal tool.

It's difficult to cease being a loser if you don't believe that you've actually been bested. As long as they claim we create an unequal playing field by owning the refs, the conference, the press, and government, they'll never ascend to the mentality of those who expect to win and hate losing.
