Go on please. I’ve re-sod yard three times in San Antonio and everything dies from heat. Have areas mixed shade and direct sun. I think last was centipede hybrid. Advice appreciated!

I’ve heard that if you write your name with urine in your yard over and over it is both a fertilizer and pesticide.

Buffalo grass is native to Texas and handles the climate well.

I do that myself on my 5 acres....I leave the complaining about the cost to the Mrs.

Yeah, but that's your choice. When my wife starts trying to exert dominion over the yard, it usually means non-voluntary work for me. That ain't therapy. It's like being forced to sit through aggy Muster (just to return sorta back to topic -- but I dunno, they seem so downtrodden lately that even schadenfreude loses some luster and yardwork discussions have to fill the gap).

Buffalo grass is great if you are in a dry enough area that i5 doesn't get out competed by KR bluestem, dallis grass, vassey grass, Bermuda, etc.

In areas that get over 30 inches of rainfall it's often too slow growing.  The plus is you only have to mow it about once every 6 weeks or so.

It won't grow at all in areas that aren't full sun.

Trim your trees.  I am betting yiu have too much shade for the grass to grow.

There is no grass in Texas that will grow well in less than 6 hours of sunlight.

Zoysia or San Augustin varieties are your best bets.

Centipede grass prefers acidic soils and higher rainfall.  If you don't live in East Texas forget it.

We put in zoiysa, and it's 'thrived' in that it seems to be best at coming back every year and staying around in winter.

Works with the oaks that just make dead grass patches everywhere.

Palisades zoysia probably the best for Texas

I always thought stoners talking about weed was the most tedious conversation in the world but I'm learning lawn people talking about the other kind of grass has a strong case to be the champ.

Texas is hot as fuck already, and it's getting hotter. And dryer.

We drilled a new water well 3 years ago 100 miles west of here, and the water table in the aquifer dropped 40 feet in a bit over a year. Not in an above ground lake, the aquifer.

Larger ranches are being cut into smaller ones (deaths & developers), which means every single parcel is drilling their own water wells. "Hey, let's build a water park in the desert!"

The idea of having and watering those lush green lawns is so last year.

Do you want a drink of water, or should I just pour it on the ground?

Growing up, I remember seeing the knuckle of an island in Lake Travis once or twice.  The last time I saw it, there were trees on it.

That’s an awesome pic. Nice framing, great shadow silhouette.

There's a guy on TexAgs that keeps a great scoreboard for college baseball. He updates the op as scores come in. I was snooping around there and discovered an old thread had been bumped. Just snipping a few.

Then they veer way off course:

I skip through most of this, but I did discover this bit of Aggie idiocy:

Goes on for a page or more echoing this with only one dissent. Lastly:

I used to hear this same shit growing up. I was in eastern Montana in the 80's during winter. I was astonished at how fucking cold below zero is. Before I left, there was a record breaking Arctic front that dropped it to -50 (not windchill). It got to 9 degrees in Houston at the same time. I didn't cover an ear and it froze in seconds.

Now they're back to whining:

* Chickenshit. You're scared someone will do the thumbs down and break your heart.

I expect a fake story of how that thumbs up is sacred because Ol' Sarge was doing that as he saved grandmothers being assaulted by the Nazis who were throwing urine on the Americans. He got his dick shot clean off, but it grew back due to his excess of manly manfulness.

How dare you disrespect this tradition?

I dont know, I grew up in central Texas and spent a decade in Galveston after college.  Now live on the Rolling plains.....30 degrees in Galveston when it occurs is brutal....I don't get bitterly cold unless it gets under 10 degrees up here unless it rains...wet cold is miserable wherever....  I was in New Orleans when it froze about 6 or 7 years ago....that was miserable.  North of the 20s is windbreaker weather without humidity.

It's a stretchy reference to swinger parties.  It's a delusional reference they keep going with so they don't have to face the honest world.

I smh every time one of those inbred mouthbreathers vents his psychotic hatred for Schloss.
Just illustrates how much more cognizant & civilized the average Frog fan is than any of those clodhopping yokels.
