Jimbo 2019: The Only Tail Getting Busted is Candi's

Recommended Posts

To be fair, I do remember reading a spring practice article where he'd been passed up before his incident. However, it's still a tough blow to lose your at worst backup swing tackle, or at best guy who would have won back a starting spot. This is a thin depth chart, and they haven't suffered the first year coach attrition yet. Maybe that's starting now.

How would you feel if a better version of Elijah Rodriguez decided to transfer?

I prefer Abilene.  Have family from there and the surrounding area.  Have a ranch near College Station so can judge both.  Nice people.  Better weather (CS is humid as fuck).  No aggy.  Close to good and cheap hunting.  Close enough to Taos for skiing.  Nice downtown area.  Hot chicks at the local colleges, especially ACU.  No maroon everywhere.  2 hours from Ft. Worth.  Perini Ranch.  The Beehive.  I prefer the people in West Texas than those in East Texas or Brazos Valley.

They've already lost two pretty important pieces in Koda Martin and Nick Harvey. Both were going to be starters or at worst Martin was going to be the 3rd tackle option.

Also, Koda Martin was starting in practices before his heat stroke. https://www.secrant.com/rant/texas-a-m-sports/2018-texas-aandm-football-spring-camp---year-of-jimbo/75950345/page-3/

First unit
LT – Koda Martin
LG – Keaton Sutherland
C – Erik McCoy
RG – Jared Hocker
RT – Carson Green

I like the number of Ags that are responding about how crappy Koda Martin was and how he wasn't even on the depth chart etc ... despite this article today from the Houston Chronicle highlighting Martin as the starting LT.  Also note that he started 10 games last year and they don't have anyone to replace him.

Koda Martin is bad but A&M doesn't have better options. Their offensive line is going to be a shit show.

Shocked A&M didn't hit the grad transfer market.

The funniest thing about aggys is after the spring game they said a big reason their OL looked like crap is because guys like Martin were out with "injuries".

Amazing how their narratives shift.

A&M's 3 tackles that will be getting most of the reps are Carson Green (So/no starts), Jared Hocker (So/1 start against ULL), and Grayson Reed (RS FR/never played a college game). Good luck with that. What makes this even crazier, is based on what I've read A&M has even bigger issues at guard right now.

Haha. That whole article is Texas penis envy. Jimbo isn't even thinking about Texas. He's worried about the big programs. He hasn't even thought about Texas since he got here. He honestly doesn't even talk about Texas while he is recruiting  (Not recruiting against Texas either). Jimbo gets what recruiting against the big boys is about, which Texas isn't. Did I mention that we have left Texas in the review mirror, and we no longer even think about Texas here at Texags?

Aren't they giving Dan Moore a look at Tackle?  I thought Sutherland started some at Tackle last year.  Either way that OL is trash.  The best one may be McCoy and he has issues snapping the ball.

Ooops actually meant Moore not Reed.

So the tackle options are Moore (So/1 start vs FL), Green (So/no starts), and Hockner (So/1 start vs ULL).

Pretty sure they are playing Sutherland at guard.

Koda Martin was always starting before his heat stroke.

First unit

LT – Koda Martin
LG – Keaton Sutherland (4 Star) - highly rated
C – Erik McCoy (3 Star) - not highly rated
RG – Jared Hocker (3 Star) - Blumrick had a higher rating
RT – Carson Green  (3 Star) - Blumrick had a higher rating

Second unit

RT – Kellen Diesch (4 Star) - very highly rated. looks like tarzan, plays like jane.
RG – Ryan McCollum (3 Star) - rated below the kicker
C – Colton Prater (3 Star) - rated a few tenths above the kicker
LG – Grayson Reed (4 Star) - decently rated
LT – Dan Moore  (3 Star) - Camron Horry was higher rated

Before the stroke, Perroni stated

So far this spring, Turner really hasn't tinkered at all with the OL other than flipping Reed and McCollum at the backup guard spots.

Usually, he's moving people all over the place but this spring has been devoid of such shenanigans. I wonder if someone simply said "No" because they needed to see what they had while teaching everyone a new offense.

This is the same as in the first two days of camp. Given the fact that senior Connor Lanfear is still missing (reportedly with an ankle injury that shouldn’t affect him for the fall), this explains why Hocker is with the first unit.

Expand

Coming this Summer

OT - Colten Blanton (4 Star) - probably wanted to redshirt him, but he probably starts now.

OG - Tank Jenkins (4 Star) - the guy that was a package deal with James Foster. I guess he's okay.

OG - Luke Matthews (3 Star) - riding his name

OG - Barton Clement (3 Star) - likes food

Other notables:

OT - Connor Lanfear (4 Star) - highly rated. Probably will start unless he's injured again...again.

https://sportsday.dallasnews.com/college-sports/collegesports/2018/04/17/projecting-texas-ams-post-spring-two-deep-depth-chart-will-aggies-starting-quarterback

This was the projected 2 deep after the spring game.

LT-Koda Martin, Dan Moore JR

LG-Keaton Sutherland, Grayson Reed

C-Erik Mccoy, Colton Prater

RG-Jared Hockner, Connor Lanfear

RT-Carson Green, Kellen Diesch

A couple more thoughts.

1-It wouldn't be surprising if Diesch eventually transfers. aggys hyped him as the next Connor Williams but he can't get on the field.

2-The aggys think their interior OL is going to drastically improve once Lanfear is healthy, but that guy is never healthy. Injury after injury.

3-Almost all the writers/reporters that cover the aggys had Koda as the starting LT before he transferred.

It is pretty amazing. I also like how Chin Pubes continues to compare Texas' "spin machine" to Russian propaganda. This from an organization known to be an arm of the athletic department, who will ban any dissenting viewpoints from their website, and even made a feature length documentary about Brandon Jones to try and sway him to aggy.

60 % off his drivel I believe is to help recruit for the coaching staff, and the other 40% I think he truly believes. I'm not sure what's worse.

In SEC, it just means Moore. Dan Moore. for LT.

Until Kenyon Green steps on campus, ready to be handed the starting position from Day 1. And the same for Javonne Shepherd. Of course.

If Green has to play early, you don't want him at tackle

Shepherd needs a redshirt and maybe another year as a backup

i think Jimbo's strategy is to talk at 100 miles per hour to where the recruits are basically just nodding. As soon as he gets enough of the right sort of nods from them...that's the agreement.

it's Jimbo's version of the Jerry Seinfeld low talker, talking him into wearing the sailor puffy shirt on national tv.

So you think a senior who hears that a guy who can’t play until 2019 will be given a starting spot gets so upset that he decides to transfer?

Let me suggest an alternative, the aggy dumbass S&C coach almost killed this guy so he no longer wants to play there.

probably some truth to that. also probably worth mentioning that his dad is the qb coach at syracuse and he's married to dino babers' daughter, so that may have had a little to do with it as well.

Of course, but with Schmidt and Turner's histories, I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't have the most faith in them.

I just hope their offense stalls and everyone starts to criticize thin-skinned Jimbo's offensive philosophy. Sometimes transitions years give you Kliff and Manziel. Sometimes they give you  Ash and Espinosa retirements after the first game. I'm hoping A&M is dealt the latter. I don't think they'll handle it well.
