Looch thinks they'll be down to "4-5 scholarships by the end of the month". Works for me.

Any guesses on their class size?

Took 23 this year with 2 early enrollees if 247 is correct. So I guess 29?

They don’t care as they’ve already decided that jimbo is a master evaluator and lower graded commits are from the services being behind.

Based on how shitty a recruiter the Marine is, and how shitty the OLs under Jimbo were at FSU, I would have to say this development pleases me.

25 for this year and how ever many they can back count.  Gonna be tons of attrition the next 15 months.

I have no doubt that Schmidt will run off whatever number they need.

Jimbo needs to save a few spots National Signing Day 2 OOS mercenaries. Austin Thomas is going to be busy in January/February.

Wolfe and Young should be committing.  Stripling to I guess?  Who else are they projected to get?  RB Spiller?

I'm not sure what Stripling and Spiller are waiting on.

Bobby Wolfe is a future "brain doctor" in the making, so he'll be committing to TAMU Health Science Center.

That would be a great choice. It's a top school and I hear their research is very innovative. They've even invented  a procedure that makes aggy smarter:

Jeff Tarpley: Layden Robinson adds SEC size to a big lineup on the Ags' 2019 OL class

Gigem 247 takes a look at the prospects on Texas A&M’s commitment list. We’re taking a look at each player’s background, their strengths and weaknesses, and what to look for from them when they finally arrive on campus as part of the class of 2019. This particular write up is on the Aggies’ most recent commit, Manvel offensive lineman Layden Robinson.

Robinson is rated as a three star prospect in the 247 Sports composite but as the seventh ranked center prospect in the country. His offer list is mostly from non Power 5 programs but it also includes offers from Nebraska, Pitt, and Syracuse. He is also a track performer who has personal bests of 109 feet 8 inches in the discus and 45 feet in the shot put this season which has garnered fourth place finishes for him in various track meets.

He has played both right guard and right tackle for Manvel in their spread offense although most of his film has him on the interior. Robinson is a powerful short area player who benefits from a massive legs and lower body. His stance is wide enough at times that while it enables him to absorb blows he could benefit from a narrower stance that would provide him more striking power coming off of the ball.

Robinson is someone who stays engaged with defenders after first contact and doesn’t let up until the whistle blows (and sometimes after it). He doesn’t mind finishing people off by getting them to the ground and then landing on top of them. His best attribute is his ability to get his feet moving and keep them moving which enables him to sustain contact. He is also very good at getting his hands up early out of his stance and is powerful enough that he can strike people under the pads and either stalemate or move them, even at times just using one hand.

Robinson also is going to keep his head up and on a swivel. He will come off of the ball either in space or off of a double team and look for someone to block at the second or third levels. He is a straight line player who as we noted earlier works best in confined spaces in the interior. He can get to people at the second level or on down blocks but he’s not someone that displays the ability to pull and get to the edge on toss or power.

Overall, you have to like Robinson as an interior player at either center or guard who can come off the ball, step, strike, and move people around on inside or outside zone. In addition, he’s enough of a space eater (especially in an offense that will cut down on the space between linemen) who will protect the interior on passes with his hands and mass. In addition, Robinson gets his hands up quickly enough out of his stance that you can see him playing center and becoming a proficient snapper with training. Most of all, Robinson adds more SEC size to an offensive line class that’s now got four players at 300 pounds or better and have another year in high school to get even bigger before they arrive on A&M’s campus.

Downvote. Not enough SEC mentions.

Regularly finished 4th? Sounds like aggy material to me.

I know they were supposed to be taking a small class this year. Like 18 or 19 because of a small senior class. If they plan on taking 29, then they have some massive attrition coming. And there is not a lot of upper class dead weight to cut. This will be sophomore cuts

If they keep hospitalizing and almost killing their players at the current rate, there will be enough room for everybody

Most coaches will want a big class of guys they recruited the first year and that means kicking off the ones they don't want. This is only natural.

Right. At least you're replacing old, stale Sumlin-procured bread with fresh, new Jimbo-identified loaves.

Exactly this. Let them fill up on bread. They're also switching up offensive styles, and will need to hit the refresh button on their secondary. There's going to be a lot of attrition that will occur.

To a degree, yes, but there's a difference between taking guys who need two years in the weight room versus a bunch of short, fat guards.

I agree completely but our guys aren't ones that'll be helping us win now. If we win like we should or hope to in the next year or two these guys may never play for us and get recruited over by better players.

We kinda need some short, fat guards... Robinson is Preston's cousin so I doubt that recruitment would have gone anywhere, but I wouldn't be surprised if we pick up some interior OL with similar profiles later in the cycle.

Um.. 45 feet in the shotput is horribad. Daniel Carson was bragging about throwing in the low 60’s, and that is still not anywhere close to elite. Put that kid on the shelf for 3 years before he should ever hope to see the field. If he plays early he is going to get Candi’d at the 50 yard line.

No we don't. Take a look at our OL for the past 4 years with a bunch of short fat guards. Seriously, our last few recruiting classes under Brown look a lot like Jimbo's 1st full cycle at OL. 1 true difference maker and a bunch of guys that will be asked to play out of position. Team that with the Marine's inability to develop and it's likely Green never lives up to the hype.

Yeah we are going after 6'5+ guys who can spin down unless they are a badass like Bragg.  Johnson will more than likely be a RT or worse a Guard.  Same for Christian Jones.  Guys like Reese Moore and Shepherd are Tackles all the way.  We aren't taking Barton Clement, Tank Jenkins, and Jordan Jefferson type OL's.

Welcome to the new world of recruiting at Texas A&M. You're going to battle Alabama a LOT for recruits if you haven't noticed by now. And you're going to win some and lose some...just like the Tide and everyone else recruiting at the highest level will. In the last six months alone, I'd say some of the guys that Alabama clearly wants or has wanted badly that they'd actually take a commit from (not the fake ones they throw around Texas like candy) and will have battled the Ags toe-to-toe for include Bobby Brown, Jaylen Waddle, Vernon Jackson, Christian Harris, Nakobe Dean, Dylan Wright, Kenyon Green, Javonne Shepherd, Baylor Cupp, Jalen Wydermyer, DeMarvin Leal, Demani Richardson, Brian Williams, Jeffery Carter, Erick Young,Ishmael Sopsher, and Leon O'Neal.

I'm sure I've left some off. You get the point, however. The Aggies are getting their fair share and pushing Bama hard for all of these guys, which is a pretty good indicator that Texas A&M is now recruiting with the best of the best and holding their own.

I think so. "Be proud, aggy. We are battling alabama now. We've arrived and we've got our big boy pants on." They're happy just to be in the room.
