This season isn’t nearly as fun as the first two. It feels smaller, and just kind of depressing. Issacs and Goggins give me anxiety just watching them.

I feel like the show moves very slowly and lazily as one big comment on the lifestyles of wealthy westerners.   I also think the constant long nature shots are designed to accentuate this—people jaded by exorbitant wealth bored and unhappy surrounded by incredible beauty and service.

Another theme I like is that everybody rich and poor has problems.

It’s a subtle show—pretty good stuff.

I'm digging this one a lot. Definitely feels a little more "arty" than the first two seasons. I trust Mike White to take us where we need to go.

Goggins and Isaacs are great. I'm really enjoying the sounds, subtle and local music and cinematography is off the charts good. It's beautiful to look at. I think the craziness is coming. I'm sure the 'boat episode' will turn this series upside down.

I had no idea the young local who works at the resort that Gaitok is after is a famous K-Pop star. She was on Fallon or Kimmel the other night. Also, the black woman from S1 was once a writer for SNL.

Based on the episode stills that have come out - yes.

I think the nods to both Parker Posey having dreams of a tsunami back home and the son being infatuated with tsunami videos is that we're in the ocean starting to pull back portion phase of the show before the tsunami arrives and causes chaos. It felt like a slower episode that's setting the table.

This is a good call. End of this episode felt like the tide receding way out before the big waves start crashing.

I learned that on this thread. Someone embedded an IG post and I did a double take when I saw she had 1.5m followers.

Everyone catch Saxon say Sa-wa-dee-ka (fem Thai for hello) as Swa-sti-ka?

Damn Uncle Rico is loaded.  He deserves it for putting up with Tanya for that long.

The Songkran street scene was cool.  I was in Thailand for three months for a plant startup and got to experience that on a day off.  They did seem to especially love soaking the foreigners and rubbing powder on their face.

The old fat westerners on the boat with much younger thai women rang very true.

Boyd's story about his father disappearing seems at least partially based on Jim Thompson: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Thompson_(designer)?wprov=sfla1

Thought it was pretty funny that Mrs. Ratliff was able to nail down the essentials of who was at the boat party quite accurately.... and her husband is slowly morphing into one of those.

I took Baby Billy's session with the healer to mean he's on a mission to avenge his father's death.

Did the Ratliff family end up on Greg’s boat merely due to Saxon having an interest in Chloe, or is it possible that Greg is still swindling people and sees them as a potential target? You would think he is pretty well set with Tanya’s money, but maybe he’s burned through a lot of it. The scene where Greg approached Timothy Ratliff at the bar made it look like he had an agenda, and I wonder if Chloe is helping him draw these people in.

Via Chloe

Greg didn't meet any of the Ratliffes until the boat.

Well yeah, but he could be scoping out tourists from afar and using Chloe to lure in potential targets, whether she is part of his scheme or merely an unsuspecting pawn. He’s supposedly wealthy with a house overlooking the ocean and a huge boat and an attractive French girlfriend, yet he spends a lot of time hanging out at the resort and allowing random annoying Americans to mooch off of him. Something doesn’t add up.

Maybe it’s nothing. Not every character in the first 2 seasons was integral to the murder plot. Some of them are just there for drama.

Yeah.... what was he chatting with Fabian about?  He isn't a guest.

Carrie Coon did a full frontal nudity scene in The Leftovers.

She was great in leftovers.  Had a huge crush on her character, even before the full frontal

Considering they have a house nearby, I assume they have an arrangement to use the resort, since they seem to use the pool and dine there quite often.

Same. I watched it kinda recently within the last two years. The Book of Nora  - goddamn. That and Made in America are my two favorite series finales.

Separately --- when Chloe calls Saxon a douche a couple of episodes back and he pulls his sunglasses down and laughs, he looks exactly like Risky Business era Tom Cruise.  Like, if he wasn't >6'0" I'd wonder if Maria was stepping out on Arnold too with the scientologists 30 years ago.

He's been good in this.  He's either a naturally smarmy asshole or he's really acting.  His laugh after dad flashed his junk to the rest of the family cracked me uo.

If I was to jump into White Lotus, best to start with Season 1, or this season?

There’s one of the storylines in this season that you need the other 2 for.

Yep, as others have said just start off with S1. There is one S3 storyline (maybe the main one) that is a carry-over from S1. You'll be caught up in no time.

I was waiting for Parker Posey to go nuts on that boat after someone took her pills out of her purse. The fact she kept quiet tells me she knows its her husband

Does their dad normally go around looking like he's in the middle of the biggest panic attack of his life, while also seriously considering suicide? His family doesn't seem to think much of anything is wrong with him.

I think they’re so self-absorbed in themselves that they haven’t noticed yet. It’s been what, two or three days. He’s still saying he’s jet-lagged and Saxon basically chided him by saying it’d already been a few days. I’m sure it will become more and evident as he continues to spiral.

Piper gets more and more attractive each episode IMO. She looks like a brunette Brie Larson.

Gaitok appears to be a complete fuckup.

The only likeable characters this season are Chelsea and Rick.

Not sure you can really call Rick likeable, with the way he treats Chelsea. There's obviously a lot of pain and deep issues he's trying (not) to deal with, but he talks to her and treats her like absolute shit.

Not the brief nudity I was hoping for
