Parker Posey's accent and tone in this cracks me up.  And I think about how a young Parker would have loathed that character.

It really tickles me how much both Duke and UNC people must resent being made such caricatures of.

For those who don't know, or your wife didn't tell you, both Posey and Isaacs took their accent inspiration from Thomas Ravenel and Patricia Altschul from Southern Charm (Bravo)

Are they really any more of a caricature of Duke and UNC folks than what Leslie Bibb's character is of Austinites?

No idea - I've never been one. You all are my baseline, and that doesn't feel especially representative...

But somehow, I view that character as being a much broader/less specific stereotype.

We watch Southern Charm religiously (no shame). It's just so stupid and we LOVE Charleston. I said it from the moment I heard Posey's accent in the first episode -- that it sounds like Ms Patricia. I finally decided Isaacs sounded like Ravenel. Posey was on Seth Meyers last night and she was talking about the accent and she blurted out they all watched Southern Charm. My wife was dozing off beside me in bed and I was like ...

Separately --- when Chloe calls Saxon a douche a couple of episodes back and he pulls his sunglasses down and laughs, he looks exactly like Risky Business era Tom Cruise.  Like, if he wasn't >6'0" I'd wonder if Maria was stepping out on Arnold too with the scientologists 30 years ago.

Nah, that kid looks just like his dad.

I've lived in Austin for 25 years, and if they hadn't said she was from Austin, I never would've gotten that. She's not even trying to have a bad accent. She could be a generic rich white lady from anywhere. Usually when people stereotype Austin, they go with the liberal hippie trope.

I don’t think she’s from Austin. Just lives in Austin

Correct. The other two make a point of how she's moved from CA to Austin and might have voted for Trump.

It seems their writer room has a finger on the pulse of Austin because that would totally check out based on the past few years.

Not sure you can really call Rick likeable, with the way he treats Chelsea. There's obviously a lot of pain and deep issues he's trying (not) to deal with, but he talks to her and treats her like absolute shit.

He's gruff but he usually gives in to her. It seems he really cares about her when he's not too wrapped up in his own shit.

It was really cute when she got him to cave and go on the boat because she brought out the fake tears.

bit behind, just finished E3 so haven't finished the thread...

one thing they nailed...

when two good female friends spend time together, everything is smooth, they are bff and get along great! when three good female friends spend time  together...there is always a 2-1 split. always. 😆 i have lived this experience more times than i can count lol. and yes, it shifts. Mike White has nailed that female dynamic.

Mook has a young Phoebe Cates thing going on, and Chloe looks like Winona Ryder. 😄

i like Chelsea, she's not the cutest but she's legitimately sweet and supportive, i'm rooting for her and Rick (with whatever happens). agree the men are stressful. PP is doing PP and it's great 😜

this one does feel different. but i'm also not really into all the new agey healing stuff either. i always imagine the people that work at these places are just faking it for the $$, to humor rich clients, they don't buy into it either.

Right; I was just responding to the guy who said she was a caricature of Austin like the family was a caricature of Duke and UNC grads.

I found it very interesting that (I think) we've now seen their three-way dynamic with each possible 2-person "breakaway" group. In other words, I think they've now each gone to bed early and the other two have remained up and been catty about the one who has gone to bed.

This is my favorite season, by far.

This season has been the most stressful to watch. I feel like I’m having an hour long anxiety attack

Fun fact: Sam Rockwell and Leslie Bibb are a real life couple.

And Sam and Walt Goggins are best friends. Perfect person for a guest appearance

Best episode of the season so far. I can't think of a monologue that went in such a wild direction from what you're thinking the person might say than Rockwell's. Rick's reaction was so great.

There are OG Austinites and everyone else. She's more of a Plano character.

She’s 100% a Westlake/ Lake Travis “new money” Tech-Bro wife. It’s spot on.

I think they're basing this character on my wife. I kept giving her the side eye during that whole speech.

Cool starry bro time. We were sitting on the patio at Fortunate Son on Saturday afternoon enjoying lunch when our buddy told us a crazy ass story that led to me making this exact same face. A friend of ours, well she's actually the sister of a good friend and probably in the between area of good friend and acquaintance on that scale, has two children with her aggy husband. Turns out that it's not much of a secret that the first child (we don't know about second) is not his. And he's remained in the marriage. And she is probably still banging the other guy, who she has brought to our annual charity BBQ cook-off (see my post in the Dallas/BBQ thread), which happens to be this coming weekend. When Rockwell was telling him that story and we got Goggins' reaction, I hit pause and asked my wife if this is what I looked like on Saturday. We had a good laugh.

Why would they have Gaitok do that when he's obviously going to break into their room to find the gun like the manager did in the first season?

I still think he may wind up being the hero in the end.
