Well, you're going to have to pay for them one way or the other, because they'll turn to crime when they sink. And if they don't, they'll become sick, which means they are no longer able-bodied. Then they get Medicaid. So, you're going to pay no matter what.

Why don’t illegals not eligible for the same benefits turn to crime at some big rate?

and if they do, come with it. I’d rather take my chances than pay someone not to steal.

You underestimate what humans can do when they need to.  Again, you won’t see an American in Houston doing the work what illegals do—roofing, landscaping, digging trenches, nannying, cleaning houses, road construction, etc.  Why is that you think that is?  It isn’t because they work less than minimum wage. Good luck hiring one less than $12 per hour.

Ok, if we're being hypothetical, let's throw out Roe vs. Wade for a moment, let's say it never happened, what's your specific Constitutional basis for outlawing abortion?

Huh?  It should be a state decision like it was before Roe. Same basis as outlawing murder.

If my state allowed it, I would vote to change it. Same as if my state allowed murder.

Murder requires person-hood...a fetus is specifically not defined as a person.  That's the exact reason banning abortion is unconstitutional in the first place.  I'm asking you what in the constitution would you cite as the reason banning abortion is constitutional.

Again, I know what the law is. Blacks weren’t people either 250 years ago. So owning and whipping them was justified.

I am discussing my opinion of what the law should be.

You keep saying that, but it's not true.

Article 1 Section 2

Quote

Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons.

They've been classified as "people" since day one...just not of equal status.

Unborn fetuses, have NEVER been counted as people...not even fractionally, so it's a moot point.

Neither does starving out public education. You know, the foundation for self sufficiency and success. But that’s a core GOP value, too.

Sorry. I moved in GOP circles for the past 30 years. I’ve met governors, Senators, etc. Not only does the party not get to claim any moral or theological high ground...it actually revels and delights in cruelty and suffering. I’ve seen it live, and in action.

You’re lying to yourself. And nobody believes it but you.

I really wish you’d stop positioning yourself as some sort of recovering Republican. You’re not, you’ve likely never thought that way and certainly haven’t on these boards where I’ve seen you post.

Revel and delight in cruelty and suffering...yeah.  And you got positive comments for this post. Leftist circle jerk here.

I'm sure XR4ticlone LOVES OPM when it comes to his pet projects like bombing brown people half way across the world.  When it comes to things that actually advance the interests of this country like education and health care, he quickly hides his bible under his pillow to hide the fact that Jesus advocated paying your taxes.

Help me understand who asserted Jesus didn’t advocate paying taxes, and doesn’t pay taxes owed currently. Thanks.

You should go check out Rome sometime, and get a history lesson.  Jesus was very clearly the lefty you hate.  You are the Romans.

Oh, and I shouldn't even reply to somebody so brain dead as to think Trump is exposing Washington's swamp, vs filling that fucker up beyond anything we've ever seen.  Have you heard of that shitheel Scott Pruitt?  Do we need to get into any other details?  At least Trump's not a nigger I suppose.  You farmers in buttfuck, America can hang your hat on that.

Sack, would you support a jobs guarantee? Surely, if every able-bodied person must work for food and shelter, then we have to ensure that every able-bodied person has the opportunity to work, right?

The current job openings and available workers is almost exactly 1:1.

Your move, non workers...

https://www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/empsit.pdf

and, get this, in the competition for labor and skill sets, wages will rise.

Ooooooooh.  So fucking weird without a gov;t mandate.

What’s the ratio of jobs to qualified candidates? No idea but I’d guess there’s a big fucking gap.

The onus isn't on society to get them qualified.

The point is, if you want basic employement, the opportunity exists.

Wages are increasing as well.

Fuck the doom and gloomers.

Every dime I’ve got is from my earnings.  Sorry you’re a poor loser and can’t contemplate that. Money isn’t that hard to make if you have some sense, a work ethic and some balls. At least not in the USA. We aren’t some socialist shithole yet.

Well you’re right on one point - I’m not one anymore.

But yeah, voted in GOP primaries, attended and participated in precinct conventions, etc. Attended GOP events and fundraisers, including small events in private homes with folks like Perry (in his Lt Gov days).

I was never a strong social conservative (although I did oppose same sex marriage for a long time). Liked me some Buckley, and yes, Will. And I still find myself agreeing with Will more than a lotta folks around here.

In short, I’ve been aligned with the kind of views reflected in the Economist for decades. And I still do. It’s just that today, the Economist has found itself “left” of the insanity that is the current Trumpist GOP. Without moving an inch.

At some point, sane and smart people realize that their leadership (party leadership) is dragging them to a shitty place, and they dig their feet in and say “fuck this,” and don’t let themselves be dragged any further. Other folks follow them deeper and deeper, and from their spot down that shitty road, holler back at all the folks who dug in their heels, and call us Libtards, RINOS, etc.

I’m good with where I stand. The Economist is. George Will is. Just a buncha libtards, I guess.

I used to work with a guy who was my counterpart in our company's UK office. The guy was your standard evangelical dispensationalist (Zionist, rapture, born again, etc...) However, he supported one of the strains of English socialism they have over there. At first glance, he seemed like he would be in lockstep with your average member of the American Christian Right but then he had this matter of fact attitude regarding social justice. It was a real curveball that he never explained other than saying "Americans obsess over capitalism too much."

Anyways, I mention this to point out the obvious, the marriage between the Christian Right and Republicans is a political one and not something that is inherent to evangelicalism. Although  many evangelicals do believe that their faith requires that they adhere to capitalism.

Lol...yep.  You nailed it.  I was out there at 5 am with all the other trustfunders loading hogs...walking beans, and baling hay.

This is going to come as a shock to you...but 80% of US millionaires are self made.

You don't have to be from a rich family to learn how to work or be successful.

People come to America all the time with nothing and become successful here.  So why is it asking too much for people to work that are citizens?  I can't speak for everyone else on the right here...but I go to work pretty much every damn day.  And it's not that I'm against paying taxes...I'm against paying for people to do nothing that are fully capable of paying their own way.

And it's not why you think.  I'm not jealous...I'm not mad about how much I pay in taxes.  I'm pissed at the idea we're building a bigger and bigger dependent class of deadbeats that will eventually be our ruin.  It's not sustainable.  And frankly I truly believe many of these programs were done with this in mind.  Build a massive, dependent class that will break the US financially and lead to the financial demise of the the US.  I think most on the left think they're doing these things for good reasons...but the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Unaccountable, bloated, massive Federal Gov and it's programs are wasteful, ineffective, build dependence, and destroy initiative.  If things do not change there will not be an America in 50 years...probably less.

I'm like this guy. I wrote about it in the windsock thread about why I don't vote, but I think there should be a distinction made between the term Evangelical Christian as it pertains to the political arena and Evangelical Christian as it pertains to civilians. They are completely different animals in different genus, family, species or whatever the taxonomic suborders are. I tend to think of them as CINOs, if you will.
All that being said, I actually agree with Pence on his Billy Graham rule. I try to do the same thing in my professional life. I think it's funny how the alt-left and liberals got bent out of shape about it and mocked it.

It should be mocked. It’s moronic.

When your outspoken legitimate beliefs - accepting your homosexuality and/or your transgender nature is a sin and we don’t warrant equal treatment under the law - cause others to kill or discriminate against my people in basic fundamental areas of living like housing, insurance, healthcare and employment - I will speak out about the hate you espouse.

I don’t hate pence but his beliefs, those that believe like him are a clear and present danger to the lives of many.

That’s a god damned fact.

Love Jesus all you want but lay off the hate, read the parable of the Good Samaritan and the Beatitudes and the early revelations Moses received and you’ll be better for it. Loving God and your neighbor is a bad ass theology and if pence thinks avoiding meetings with women one on one lifts them up in love then he’s delusional because all it does is perpetuate a men’s only club of power. It’s active and real discrimination. And it’s absolutely ok to call it what it is - a clear and present danger to many.

You wanna talk about back to work programs vs food stamps and the like fine. But exclusionary discrimination is not part of our DNA even though our imperfect union was started with its cancer all through our culture, and it’s imperative we call it out when we see it. That’s what sets us apart.

Be loving exclusionists in your church on Sunday but do not think for one minute those views are part of the American ideal. We are an inclusive secular society not a Zionists project to perfect as a Christ like led King State.

I think this is telling. Because your value system is different, you mock and deride someone else’s legitimate beliefs and how they inform behavior. If the Mike Pence haters who engage in ugliness were disagreed with, with even half the derision of “moronic and deserves to be mocked” then you’d never hear the end of discrimination and horrible injustice. Think of the situations the left supports and input that kind of language in opposition of those (like Pence’s, too) legitimate beliefs and values and you see what I mean.

What makes a belief legitimate?
