Arkansas game week

I’ll play. Name the seven better teams.

They’re somewhere between like fifth and ninth best depending on how the year shakes out. Sixth to eighth being kind of the midpoint there.

OU, ISU, TCU, and OSU will all be better, that’s pretty uncontroversial.

KSU will probably be better but they run that QB so much he might be hurt by the last week of the year. I don’t see much reason to believe Arkansas is any better than ULL. Let’s go 50/50 with the last two and call that five better teams, getting us to sixth. They’re definitely going to at least be in the same tier as KSU/ULL, along with Tech and West Virginia. So depending on how each of these teams progress anywhere from fifth to ninth is possible, probably at least sixth. They’ll need three conference wins again to get to a bowl and Tennessee ain’t walking through the door - Georgia is. A bowl game is hardly a foregone conclusion. It’s not a radical statement to say a fringe bowl team is in the middle to back end difficulty of a P5 schedule.

They’re better than Baylor, Kansas, and Rice (though maybe not that much better than the latter lol).

I'm pretty sure the family that owns it is actually from Texas, too. But, then again, so is Lincoln Riley and we've all seen his skills on the que.

Their burnt ends and collard greens are really good. They actually have a concession stand at the stadium this year but it wasn't nearly as good as the restaurant.

ISU and OSU really struggled in their first games too, that's why it's so hard to extrapolate one game into the whole season lol.

Really wish our bowl against TCU wasn't canceled last season it would have been a good barometer.

Yeah, I mean, in the same way I’m willing to write off OU’s performance for taking their foot off the gas or ISU’s for just being what they do against UNI, I’m willing to cut Arkansas some slack for their Rice performance. They’re obviously not going to be down ten to Rice in the second half bad this week or for most of the year. Arkansas doesn’t have recent success to point to as an extra reason to get the benefit of the doubt like those particular examples, but most teams get better from week 1 (unless you’re a Tom Herman coached Texas team). Arkansas will, OU will, ISU will, and yes, Texas will.

I saw they opened up a location on the Bentonville square a while back too. I agree, their burnt ends are good. Their ribs have too much pepper on them and it overpowers the meat. Fred's Hickory Inn in Bentonville has the best all around ribs in NWA, in my opinion. And they have a damn good vinegar based sauce to go with them if you want that.

where do we get good food while in Fayetteville?

There's uh....not much. Pretty decent wings at Foghorn's. Take a short drive up to Rogers and you have Longhorn Steakhouse, Ruth's Chris, a bunch of chain taco joints like Fuzzy's, Tacos 4 Life, Torchy's, Chuy's, etc.

I gotta hand it to Oklahoma. At least they have decent food there. When we first moved to Arkansas we tried all the local recommendations and were thoroughly disappointed. Especially Doe's Eat Place in Bentonville. That is supposed to be the good steakhouse in town. It's not. Unless you like your ribeye overcooked and sinewy

Piglet is terrified. They know that if Texas strolls into Fayetteville and absolutely embarrasses them that they're all going to catch hell from their SEC brethren--especially aggy.
Only because it was us who thrashed them, otherwise nobody would gaf about yet another piggy spitroasting.

What is it with sick fucks scrapping the bark off brisket and then serving it to people Barkless.

I once hurt a competitive BBQ'er's feelers because I told him his brisket looked dry and it didn't have any bark on it. He doesn't speak to me anymore. Virginians are apparently pretty fucking soft.

I think you misunderstood my post.

CharlieStrongFan said we were the 8th best team they would play this year.

I was asking him who the seven are better than Texas. Not that I expect him to reply.

I would probably go to Herman’s, Hugo’s, Hammontrees, JJ’’s or The Catfish Hole (catfish is meh but hushpuppies are good) before a lot of the chains. Haven’t been to a lot of the others people like but I do prefer downtown Bentonville restaurants to Fayetteville as a whole. The Rail in Rogers has by far the best wings IMO. I’ve heard the Doe’s in Fayetteville is better but haven’t been to either.

I don’t expect Texas fans to go to Herman’s out of spite but threw it out there anyway.

I haven't tried Herman's or Hugo's yet but JJ's is always solid and I wasn't a fan of the Catfish Hole. If Catfish is going to be in the name it should at least be good. I thought Flying Fish in Bentonville was better catfish. I'll have to try The Rail sometime. You're the third or fourth person that has mentioned their wings.

Yeah I think a lot of Catfish Hole people just go there for the atmosphere and since it’s where the coach’s show/recruiting visits are held. It’s a staple but there are better places now unlike there were 20 years ago.

Hogs closer to full strength for Game 2

Treylon Burks played against Rice, but was obviously rusty. (Arkansas Athletics)

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas came out of camp pretty healthy, but should be even closer to full strength when it takes the field for its second game of the year.

Defensive tackle John Ridgeway (appendectomy) missed the season opener, while wide receiver Treylon Burks (lower leg) played, but was obviously rusty in the Razorbacks’ 38-17 win over Rice.

With another week under their belts, both starters are expected to have larger roles in Saturday’s matchup with No. 15 Texas.

Despite being less than two weeks removed from having his appendix removed, Ridgeway returned to the field this week and wasn’t even in a green non-contact jersey. Head coach Sam Pittman said he’s looked good in the team’s Monday and Tuesday practices.

“I'm not a doctor, so I don't really know how long it takes to come back from that surgery,” Pittman said. “I do know we were anticipating two weeks, and it's going to be one week. He's a tough guy and doesn't seem to be having any pain from it at all after practice."

Whether he starts or not, it sounds like Ridgeway will make his Arkansas debut this week. He’s a graduate transfer from Illinois State who was heavily recruited out of the portal despite coming from the FCS ranks.

Listed at 6-foot-6, 320 pounds, he’s expected to replace Jonathan Marshall as a force in the interior of the Razorbacks’ defensive line.

“He's an absolute beast and I'm excited for everyone to get to watch what I've seen him do all fall camp, because he's a monster,” linebacker Hayden Henry said. “When he's in shoulder pads and a helmet, you're like, 'How are you human?'

“Because he looks so big. And when he's right in front of you and you're in your stance, you're like, 'This guy is taking up both A gaps.’”

Burks, on the other hand, managed to get healthy enough to play in the days leading up to the Rice game. His injury caused him to miss a couple of weeks, but he got some work in Wednesday and Thursday at practice.

Although there was speculation that he might not play at all or would be limited, Burks ended up playing 58 of 67 offensive snaps - more than any non-lineman other than KJ Jefferson.

The result was a subpar performance for the All-America candidate and potential first-round NFL Draft pick. Not only did he catch only five passes for 42 yards, Burks also had a pair of drops and earned a 52.2 grade from Pro Football Focus - the second-lowest mark in his 21-game career.

“If you don't do it on a regular basis, it's hard to go and perform at your peak,” Pittman said. “That's what happened with Burks. We were hoping with a little of Wednesday and all of Thursday, that he would come out and play really well. He didn't, and he'll say that. It's not his fault. He was hurt.”

Luckily for the Razorbacks, Burks came out of the game healthy and Pittman said the plan was for him to get a full week’s worth of practice.

Even though he’s been in green and didn’t participate in Tuesday’s “fastball starts” period, it sounds like Arkansas has stuck to that plan.

“We certainly expect him to be healthy and ready to go,” Pittman said. “He’s practiced both days, so far and will practice today and seems to be healthy and ready.”

Teammate and fellow wide receiver Tyson Morris offered an encouraging update on Burks following Tuesday’s practice, as well.

“He’s back up under his feet after missing a couple of practices,” Morris said. “I feel like he’s back himself again. He was never not himself, but he’s got his feet back under himself again and he should be even better than he was last week.”

Kickoff against the Longhorns is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT Saturday inside Reynolds Razorback Stadium. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN
