Some of these are multi-albums.

Van_Halen_album.jpg

I could include almost anything by Van Halen here. Including Mammoth WVH. But not Van Halen 3. God, what a mess that was.

Blind_Guardian_At_the_Edge_of_Time.jpg

Probably my favorite prog-metal.

51-Y2jCWmaL.jpg

"The Chauffeur" remains, to this day, Duran Duran's finest work. A close (9/10) would be Astronaut. Wedding Album gets 8/10.

61BLXV9ziXL._SY355_.jpg

Especially for Symphonies #4 and #5.

R-45213-1255025346.jpeg.jpg

This is as good as disco gets.

71UUAxdKCHL._SX355_.jpg

71p0e8px-+L._SX425_.jpg

A few metal classics.

51mASsnlgnL.jpg

There are many Bach cello suites recordings, but this is the best.

51WSBLdJGAL.jpg

Duh.

AnthraxSoundOfWhiteNoise.jpg

"Poison My Eyes" off the Last Action Hero soundtrack was my introduction to Bush-era Anthrax, and the beginning of my love for 'em. I have since gone back and rediscovered the Belladonna era, but this album is just so strong...

R-4383986-1363454024-1777.jpeg.jpg

I don't know if they'll ever get better than this. The soprano left the band after this album because her day job -- opera -- took off.

Tis-the-Season-to-Be-Jammin.jpg

Good luck finding this one anywhere.

41tciPhsszL.jpg

"What? Not 2112? Not Moving Pictures?" No, young padawan. This is what happens when the band gets back together after a long hiatus, Neil is writing about the loss of his family, and then the guy who produced Peter Gabriel's So and Tool's Lateralus comes along and fixes the mix. It is the definitive version.

This.  I took it as there isn’t one bad song on the album, no songs you skip.  I almost included Zep IV but Battle of Evermore stopped me, I just cannot make it through that song.  Same for the Beatles, Pepper probably comes closest, but every album has at least one song that is just a little weak.

Todd Rundgren - Something/Anything
King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King

for my 5 single disc albums,  DSOTM, Are you Experienced, Let It Bleed, and IV have no bad songs for me.  the only "bad" song IMO on Revolver is the Harrison Sitar-fest Love You To but it has 14 songs so I give it a pass as the others have 8-10 with some instrumentals.

Damn @Carl Spackler  This could easily be my list.  Hoodoo Gurus, Smithereens, Plimsouls, Los Lobos, REM, Crenshaw, Zevon, 'Mats are all favorites.  Funny to me, Tom Petty is probably my all-time favorite artist, but I can never find room for any of his records on my lists.  And I love and own them all.

Just shows you have exquisite taste in music.

I love Petty as well.  Thought about Damn the Torpedoes, Hard Promises, Wildflowers, and Full Moon Fever.  But they each have at least one song that I tend to skip over that isn't as strong as the others to me.  Hell of a strong overall catalog, though.

Over-nite Sensation

You might be just a little bit older than I am because most everyone of my age or thereabouts first got exposed to Apostrophe (‘). But Frank has so many better albums than those. Those are like gateway drugs. At first you think this guy is pretty funny. And then you realize, ‘Hey, he can really play the guitar!’ And then you find that most of his music isn’t funny and often doesn’t even have lyrics. And holy shit, he’s a genius who has dozens and dozens of great albums and even more in the way of live bootlegs. And that’s not even counting the posthumous releases.

A few more of mine:

Dietrich Fischer Dieskau, Schubert Winterreise - this is an amazing recording; at one point, I spent months  exclusively  listening to this and it still blows my mind

Ornette Coleman, The Shape of Jazz To Come - that first wail/solo is ecstatic in a way I’ve never heard before or since

Paul Simon, Graceland - that Bakithi Kumalo bass sound

Dave Douglas Quintet, Be Still

Any artist who can write lyrics like Dinah-moe hum is aces in my book.
