The Buffalo Bills were involved in the trades that netted KC Mahomes in 2017 and Worthy this year.

Bills ended up with good drafts in the years involved in the 2017 trade:
2017: 3 pro-bowlers (White, Dawkins, Milano) and 3 more guys who made the roster (Jones, Peterman, Vallejo)
2018: 3 pro-bowlers (Allen, Edmunds, Teller) and 4 more roster guys (Phillips, Johnson, Neal, McCloud
Bills traded 2017.10 (Mahomes) for 2017.27, 2017.91, and 2018.22.  They used their own 2018 first round pick (21) to ultimately trade up to 7 - Josh Allen.  (21 -> 12 -> 7). They used the pick from the Chiefs to trade up for Edmunds.  There are many other transactions involved, but  those were the main pieces.

In 2024, Bills traded 2024.28, 2024.133, 2024.248 for what ended up as 2024.33, 2024.95, 2024.141, 2024.221.
Chiefs drafted Worthy, and 2nd team CB, and a backup G.
Bills drafted WR Keon Coleman (starter), 2nd team DT, 2nd team C, and a backup T on IR.

The bills had the 6'4" Coleman higher on their draft board.  He caught 51% of his targets for 29 receptions, 556 yards, and 4 TD.  Zero impact in the running game.
KC's Worthy caught 61% of his targets for 59 receptions, 638 yards, and 6 TD - and 3 more TD rushing.
Worthy made an impact in the playoffs.  Coleman did not.

First Longhorn to score a TD in the Superbowl (according to random shit on my fb)

He's also the first Longhorn to store 2 TDs in the Superbowl.

pretty sick rookie highlight reel. he’s the first sub-4.3 WR who’s an actual football player. pretty special.

note: i’m not dismissing guys like bob hayes and lam jones, just speaking of the modern combine era.

i wonder how many people are going to see this thread bumped and immediately worry that Xavier has been jerking off on massage tables or driving 120 mph through dallas. 🤔 the offseason, amirite?

Did Lam Jones run that fast?

Apparently he ran a (hand-timed) 9.85 sec 100m, so my guess is "yes".  X has elite football speed, but that's elite speed period for Lam.  He was on the gold medal winning 4x100 team at the Olympics.

BUT, different conditions (turf vs track, different footgear, etc.).

Yea I knew he won the gold on the relay team. Didn’t remember a forty that fast.

Dude was fast for sure.

40 yard dash was formally incorporated into the combine in 1985, so it wasn't around back then.

I timed the TD return and he did that in under 12 seconds even while moving laterally and slowing down at the end.

The punt return against BYU?  If so, that was 74 yards (67.7 m).  Yes, zig-zagging.  I don't know how to compare that to a sprint.  Maybe top end speed?

Interesting instagram story

He posted videos of Blue and Bond running their 40s with the added caption “respect those who came before you.”

Guess he felt slighted by their comments

You sure that wasn't a 100 yard time?  I don't think anyone was running sub-10 second 100 meters until a roided up Ben Johnson was doing it around 1987 or 88.

Yeah, I was at this game.  Video doesn't do it justice -- when Johnny "Lam" received any kickoff the crowd was electric.  Unbelievable how quickly he separated on that play and finished that TD return!!!

Still believe "Lam's" speed was elite -- even faster than Worthy.  🤘

No, it was in meters.
Back then a world class time in the 100 yard dash was 9.2 seconds….give or take .1.

JLJ’s most famous run was when he anchored his high school mile relay team in the State track & field championship finals.
I was there and still cannot believe what he did to win that race.
Y’all can look it up.

NM, here it is:

https://www.texasfootball.com/hof-johnny-lam-jones?ref=search

In that  race, after dropping the baton at the third exchange, Johnny picked it up and started running from 30 or so yards behind the pack. He wound up passing them to win the race for Lampasas. His anchor time was clocked at 43.8 - which was unheard of anywhere in the track & field world at the time 49 years ago.

He later set a UT record in the 100 yard dash at 9.21.
His 100 meter time was relatively slow at 10.14.

Note the empty seats in the endzone “knothole” section….and the lack of Burnt Orange attire in the student sections.

Why was that section empty / what was up with the lack of burnt orange?

Was everyone off having wine and cheese?
