On a more serious note, hopefully he is cleared of any wrongdoing before losing his opportunity in KC.

It's the NFL, and he's talented.  He's not losing his opportunity.  This will be forgotten within a few weeks.

Jeez the speed at which some people on Surly pronounce the guy guilty and bang the gavel is disturbing. I hope every one of you gets violated by a Williamson County deputy.

And the amount that discount a potential victims story is also disturbing.

Every promising athlete needs to study Derek Jeter’s career. Single the entire time he played, only dated/fucked other hot celebrities, retired and then settled down and started a family. Zero arrests, scandals or controversy in the basically 20 years he played.

Didn’t he get herpes?

it's gonna be hard for him to prove in a court of law that he felt he needed to choke her to neutralize the situation.

Not disagreeing, just using your comment as my entry...

Choking is done with two hands.
But a single hand to the other persons throat, to prevent them from getting any closer to you, is also defined by law as "choking".
Even though it's not.

When was the last time you saw a person get choked-out by one hand?  Aside from in the movies.

If a guy wants to hurt someone, he's not choking them.  He's punching them, throwing them to the ground, etc.
And if choking them somehow turns into a preferred option, it'll be done with two hands.

I'm not saying he did or didn't, or that Beard did or didn't.  I just don't understand how people jump to the B conclusion that he was trying to choke someone rather than the A conclusion which should be that he was defending himself.

Either way, as has already been said... he's an idiot for letting himself get into that position in the first place. And that's an A conclusion!

So anyways, someone needs to alert all the Beard supporters to this thread so we can really get the thread going for some prime drunk posting/arguing tonight!
It's the weekend, baby!

If the fiancé calls the police and tells them X choked her, he is getting arrested regardless of what happened. We don’t know shit until or if more evidence is released.

*and right or wrong, he is guilty in public until proven otherwise

And that’s why they do it. It’s bullshit.

This is a lot of unnecessary mental gymnastics.  He's not charged with choking.  The charge is impeding breathing or circulation.  You can do that with two hands, one hand, or no hands.

Give me a couple of Allsups burritos and I'll impede the breathing of everyone in the car with me.

Years ago when the legislature classified theft of precious metals as a felony as opposed to theft of regular old metals, which was usually a misdemeanor, deputies and city cops became amateur metalurgists. If they could file a case as the former rather than the latter they almost always did.

I noticed when they made assault by choking a felony as opposed to assault, which is usually a misdemeanor, a shitload of cases were filed as assault by choking. Even in some cases I either prosecuted or defended in which there was no evidence of it and the alleged victim specifically told the officer(s) that she/he wasn't choked.

Like y'all I don't know the merits of this particular charge. Just saying after 34 years of doing this I've noticed some trends

#Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy won’t be charged following his arrest in Texas. Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick told the Austin American-Statesman that, after speaking with multiple witnesses, his office is not accepting the case at this time.

I wonder what the witnesses said. Most likely she lied because he wanted her gone and called her a bitch ass hoe or something.

Also, you absolutely CAN choke someone with just one hand.

Well, good news for X. I'm glad this will end all the speculation and misogynistic jumping to conclusions.

this is why I dont jump to conclusions. If the Williamson County DA ain't doing nothing, he probably didn't do anything.

I’m really not. And I don’t think I’d fit into his “posse”. I’m white, closer to 40 than 30, and have nothing to offer that would benefit him unless he finds himself shot, stabbed, or on fire.

I do, however, possess enough life experience to reserve comment/judgment on a topic of this nature until further information is available. And I believe in mocking and belittling those that jump to conclusions.

It’s crazy that ppl on here act like women don’t fucking lie. And he was automatically guilty.

smh it’s a lot of dumbasses in here though

Here in Bexar county people get mad at the DA’s office for the large number of cases that get dropped. No one stops to think that part of the problem is police grossly overcharging people for arrests which then become difficult to hold up on conviction. Seems like Williamson county operates the same.
