I am friends with one of his teammates on that relay team. They still speak of Lam with a lot of love.

Who is your friend?  I’ll have to look up all the guys names as only one comes to mind.

They filmed football games in the ‘70s for sure. I used to ride with my Dad to swap film with other teams coaches at some midway point depending on where they were coming from, as we were in DeSoto, and that was just at the HS level.

I can’t believe the UIL didn’t have a “crew” assigned to record the Boys/Girls State Track meet. UT filmed all of their football games even prior to then, so I just surprised nobody was assigned to film the State Track meet. We’re talking late ‘70s, on film, prior to the VHS era of the early to mid ‘80s. All of my HS games are on VHS tapes.

My Dad loved/loves the Track & Field season and I’m sure they filmed their hosted track meets while he was the HC/AD at DeSoto (70-83).

He’s worked the last 26 years of the State Track meet in some capacity, but now he’s getting closer to the mid-eighties in age, he’s basically just been a starter “fault” or Finish Line judge, just in case the computer data breaks down, as everything is timed electronically and manual is only back-up.

I got this T-shirt for working the 1964 Texas Relays as a student volunteer.

Dad worked the Texas Relays from ~2003 to 2018 and kind of “aged out,” even though he volunteered his time, as long as they paid for his hotel/lodging.

Anyone that’s attended a big Houston area HS Track meet in the last 20+ years, he was working it in some capacity.

Dad was a great friend of Fred Newhouse, as they worked the Houston area HS and collegiate track meets. They both worked the UIL meet together over the past ~25 years.

Fred ran track at PV and is a former Olympian (76?) and Gold Medalist from a relay race (400m?). Mr. Newhouse sadly passed away last year. He was in his late ‘70s.

Fred Newhouse and Robert Newhouse were both from Hallsville, Texas and went to Galilee High School before integration. The Galilee HS eventually became an intermediate campus in the Hallsville ISD before ultimately being torn down a few years ago.

what the fuck does any of this have to do with Xavier Worthy?

It was my fault for the derail. It all stemmed from referring to J “Lam” Jones’ speed in comparison to Worthy running the fastest combine 40. The fact that there wasn’t an actual decent recording of his final leg of Lam’s infamous 4x400 relay of the State Track meet for Lampasas in the early ‘70s.

I then further stated that I knew my Dad as a Track/Field guy filmed their HS track meets back in the 70s, so I couldn’t believe that the UIL didn’t have a recording of Lam’s come from behind final lap.

I then included Fred Newhouse, also a former Olympian of the same ‘76 Games that Lam participated in, so in a way trying to tie it all together, after a couple of cold ones last night.

Sad thing is DV is rightfully a career killer for many, but these sportsball idiots continue to earn generational wealth in the face of DV, sexual assault, and other felonies.

I guess we get what we incentivize and prioritize.

Is that really the case anymore in the NFL? Maybe for fringe guys

When she's going off and saying all kinds of noise it's best to walk away. No matter how much you want her to shut up you can't throttle her.

Let's just say that I have some experience with this in divorce number one. Restraining her from hitting you might also be mistaken for something else.

Don't bother, it's more fun to tear a man down without knowing the facts.
