Stick it to us how?  He'd still be our coach if he hadn't caused a PR nightmare for the administration

Presumably by having a better coach than us and winning more games.  If it happens they will for the 2-4 years he's there.

Beard's buyout for leaving for another job. Article from August '24

Spoiler

If Beard were to move on during the remainder of the first year of his contract, he would owe the Ole Miss Athletic Foundation $4,500,000. That amount drops to $3,500,000 in the second year and $2,500,000 in the third year before stabilizing at $1,000,000 for the final three years of Beard's deal. If athletic director Keith Carter and University Chancellor Glenn Boyce are no longer employed in their respective positions, Beard's buyout is cut in half.

Beard's buyout is chicken feed for "big pockets" at aggy 😋

It truly is not a surprise:

6 years at Marquette

5 years at Virginia Tech

6 years at aggy

Dude basically cycles through a 4 year class, give or take, and then dips out before he has to rebuild the roster.

Correct.  A new job buys you another 3-4 years.  There are a number of coaches who take jobs when offered for this very reason.

aggy trev is still broke so I'd bet against it happening

Edited by WBT

Stars are lined up for aggy to either overpay for a good coach who will leave in a couple years for a better basketball program with any success  or under deliver on a meh hire that lets the world know they are poor.

Trev needs some kind of win at this point so he can't take a no from Beard. Beard on the other hand knows aggy would just be moving money from NIL to his salary so I don't see him wanting to kill his career at aggy because they can't afford him any good players.

Trev is the hatchet man, no proven coach is headed there until he's run out of town.

Yep, very confused where the money is coming from. They broke and have bad leadership

Why does the idea of A&M hiring a coach named “Skinn” just make me laugh. The jokes would just write themselves…

First comes the commitment, then the right coach, then the culture change. Next, you play the Skinn flute.

I won't be shocked if Beard takes the A&M job, but I also won't be surprised if he's just using A&M to get a huge raise and NIL commitments from Ole Miss. He's been building up Ole Miss for two years now, just got them to the Sweet Sixteen and will have a better roster next year. Taking the A&M job would be a step backwards roster/program-wise, and both are  just stepping stones to a better job. Maybe the opportunity to get revenge on UT and whatever insane salary aggy is offering will be enough for him.

If Beard is a true Longhorn, he’s just using them for a pay raise and then will yank the rug out from them when they think it’s a done deal

It seems like the combo of him going to UT and knowing just how psycho and broken their culture is plus how bad their AD is right now would make him realize it's a bad idea. They've had two high profile coaches voluntarily leave in the last 8 months. That's absolutely unheard of for a P4 school with their athletics spending.

But Beard is also insanely vindictive and arrogant, so maybe the chance to get revenge on CDC and his belief he can make any situation work will overcome that. Whether he stays at Ole Miss or goes to A&M, I doubt he stays at either program very long. He'll jump for a better job the second he gets a chance.

I don't know Beard as well as you guys, but this absolutely the vibe I get from him.  My guess is he thinks that Texas's administration fucked him over, and he's going to be out for revenge.

In no way does he strike me as a reformed man who understands how he ended up where he is.

Him going to A&M is not ideal at all for us.  I hope it does not happen.

Texas needs to focus on their own program right now and stop wetting their collective panties about the aggys.

Bread strikes me as the type who is petty, cocky, and vindictive so yes, I fully expect him to take the A&M job and do all he can to make them more relevant and win more than Texas. If you think he doesn’t think this, then you need to a shot of something to wake you up.

I think if Beard waits one more year, he can get the UNC job.

Riiiiight…

Due to UNC’s long history of hiring outside the UNC family, with particular fondness for coaches with checkered pasts.

re: A&M

There is plenty of money there, they just may not be spending it on football until they see what kind of coach Elko is.

All it takes is one or two guys to see the potential with an actual good coach who has a long history of success at a variety of programs to get excited.

Beard would have that campus frothing at the mouth to come support the team and would be able to get money out of donors who don’t normally dabble in basketball.

If the mother part is true, I would be shocked if he DIDN’T take the A&M job.

I can believe he thinks this, he has demonstrated repeatedly he is a piece of shit human being.

But there will be no embarrassment for Texas when aggy hires an actual POS fired for cause. It will just reinforce how desperate they are to be Texas.

The only people who will care about this are Texas fans.

No one else will think like this—at all.

Aggy will pawn their wives, mortgage their homes, or do whatever crazy shit they need to do to get Beard so that they collectively can "stick it to Texas." This makes too much sense.

Aggy is just as good a job

It’s not. Yes, Texas does not have a history of basketball success and alumni in the NBA on the level of a North Carolina or Kentucky.  But that history is a hell of a lot better than aggy. And aggy’s athletic leadership appears to be a shitshow right now.

So no, not as good a job as Texas.

Edit: I missed your clarification that you were comparing to Ole Miss. carry on.

A&M is not on the same par as Texas as far as jobs go. A&M basketball has never been beyond the S16 and they’ve only been there 6 times

A&M actually is a better job than Mississippi, though.

Because their AD is run by TexAgs and Looch. Can you imagine if Imma was in CDC’s ear, calling the shots based on his subscription base?

But he's proven he can win at Miss, why change now? My guess is he'll get a huge raise and NIL committment from Miss and stay. And we'll all have a big belly laugh. If he's looking for a better just below blueblood position, aggy ain't it.

this is simple: donors and leadership are incredibly aligned, we are flush with cash and trev alberts track record is impeccable. add to that many would tell you reed arena is one of if not the best college basketball environment in the country, and why wouldn't beard want to be here.

You're joking, but Beard can absolutely turn Reed into a crazed basketball arena. He does it. He did it here and was set up perfectly for extended basketball success.

And now I want to stab something again.

I’m from Cooke County—my heart has been blessed enough

And I don’t know if it’s sad or surprising you believe anyone outside Texas would give a shit. The same media members who said we “had to fire Beard and had to hire Terry” have been slobbing over Bread all year long thanks to what he’s done at Mississippi

I dunno I kinda want them to get Beard (knock on wood) first there is potential for Aggie comedy their admin is a mess and I have yet to be proven wrong that hey are a headless chicken, second it will force UT to take Men's Basketball really really seriously, no more just happy with a SS, we have to have a team strong enough to compete for the national championship.

This topic requires bullet points.

  • Aggie are stupid if they don't hire Beard
  • Aggie are stupid if they hire Beard
  • Beard is stupid if he takes the Aggy job
  • Beard is stupid if he doesn't take the Aggy job (because Mom)

His Mom being in a care home in Houston is his "easy out" to any hard questions about why he leaves Ole Miss for freaking Aggie.

Yeah I think he could do well there but this would also be his 4th job in 5 years and regardless of the level of coach you are sometimes a spot just isn't a good fit. And aggy has a legendary track record of not being a good fit and/or falling on their faces (Schloss one of the exceptions, obviously). I think the personal toe-stub is still in play, as well. Saw someone yesterday say that someone at Tech they knew said they were surprised that he didn't "wrap his car around a telephone pole" while he was at Tech.

I like your 2nd point as well. If he does hit the ground running you think it could galvanize Texas NIL. A lot of these guys are petty - not just Beard.

Who knows. Still waiting to see anything from a reliable source.

The Texas Longhorns fired his ass. He's not a "true Longhorn".

Oh hell. I’ll go ahead and be blasphemous. I don’t get why fans of every basketball program in the country seems to be pining away for Chris Beard. Sure, he’s a good coach with one improbable run to the NCAA championship game, but other coaches have been as successful. Even if he goes to aggy his pattern of rapid success will probably hold, he’ll get bored and move on. The most aggy will get out of it is a new gym. He and his co dependent  assistant have a tendency to wear on people after awhile.  Him coming back to Texas won’t impact the trajectory of basketball at Texas, Houston, Baylor or Tech. People need to relax.
