I saw they might want Steve Lutz from OKST? I mean I don’t want to start over again and would like to see how he does with a full recruiting cycle but wouldn’t lose much sleep if he took that job.

Where did you see this?

I hate to admit but I looked at texags for some shaunenfreude. Saw a few references to him.

I've seen him listed, along with Alan Huss

This feels like the absolute worst case scenario for A&M. They publicly admitted that they have no scruples about hiring a woman beater. and then they fail at getting him

You left out the part about scrub coach openly wanting to and then leaving them for a scrub school

Alberts: Coach, we are prepared to offer you $7.3M/yr.

Beard: Ok, let's talk. What kind of budget is available for assistants and support staff? Also NIL?

Alberts: You can spend that $7.3M/yr on any of those things. You could even buy new balls and uniforms with it, if you want.

Beard: ...

Alberts: So do we have a deal or what?

Well…

Vic Schaefer is an Aggie and he is crushing it in Austin and saying “Praise the Lord! Hook’em Horns!” every time he is near a microphone and that has to get annoying after a while.

Beard would be an annoyingly amazing hire for those woolen fucks. I just hope he brings along his fiancée from 2 1/2 years ago.

Point taken, but IMO there's a difference between upgrading your situation and downgrading it.

Going from being an aggy or sooner to a Longhorn = upgrade if for no other reason than being in Austin versus collie station or norman.

But going from being a Longhorn to an aggy or sooner?  Um, no thanks.

This is what got Aggy to bump up the offer, which he then used to negotiate a better salary at Ole Miss. Well done!

And the rest of the country genuinely believes Chris Beard wanted a raise, especially when Beard initiated contact through intermediaries. Because we aren't stupid fucking rubes.

The desire to beat Texas angle is pure fantasy.

Beard is too smart to bear a grudge against UT.  He knows he put the administration in an untenable position.  They really had no choice but to let him go.

If he doesn't get that, then fuck him.

Oh,  they both could be true.  But Beard was very likely to get a raise already due to the S16.  He also might want to beat Texas because he's a competitor, and possibly petty AF.

Aggy was just the leverage, not the catalyst they thought they were.

I saw it a few pages back, but holy shit, I'd be over the moon if Aggy went and got Hoiberg before he gets fired in Lincoln.

Those two deserve each other.  That said, I can't see Hoiberg going there.  He's never been based outside of the Midwest as a player or coach.

The best part is it would force Nebraska to hire a coach now, and that would likely mean they don't get Drake's new coach (who I assumed they'd hire after he Drakes to the dance next season and they can Fred).

I mean, he already beat us at OM. He’s still gonna play us every year.

Agree, maybe he does have a "burning desire" to beat Texas. But he can still do that at Ole Miss and:

  • Not have to completely rebuild the roster and program
  • Stick with an AD that has shown a commitment to winning that also has Top 10-15 football and baseball programs
  • Avoid having Trev fucking Alberts as your boss
  • Steer clear of the inevitable conversations with ag alums who would start each conversation with "glad you're here so we can stick it to tu, whoop!"

Not to mention the inevitable TexAggy-ing after every loss that he’s a secret TU plant who took the job to destroy them.

God forbid he loses to us once - that is what will be repeated over and over again.

Underrated take that I agree with. While I have no doubt Chris wants to beat our ass every game and likely has a grudge I don’t think he wants to be lumped with aggy losers.   He’s in a better spot in relative anonymity in Bolivia

TexAgs makes that job hard to stomach.  There's a lot of somewhat normal aggys who don't participate in that site, but the ones who do are the loudest and have the ear of Looch, who has the ear of the AD and the NIL people.

Fans who call for your firing after every loss and demand your adherence to whatever culture they made up and your fealty to the turditions they deem most important.

You really got to give CDC his flowers. We may have reached out to a few big names to no avail, but we didn’t get publicly turned down by anyone or had it leak that we offered $2m over current salary and still got turned down.

What a clown show. Thank god for CDC.

Looch only hears the batshit crazy ones since he drops the ban hammer on anyone making sense.

He dgaf about beating Texas. He wants to win a championship. That's not gonna happen at aggie. He knows that. He's not a delusional fucking moron like they are who's entire world revolves around beating TU.

He could win a NC at A&M compared to Mississippi. A&M is the better job.

I don’t think that has anything to do with his decision.

Probably right but on a longer time table.  A&M literally has nothing on their roster for next season. If he wants a top 10 job, the faster path is staying right where he is for another season.

It really isn't though. Aggy has always had tons of money and big money donors and it's gotten them jack shit. It's their culture. They will never, ever win a national title in a major sport. Ole Miss has found a way to fund the program to compete with other big dollar programs. As long as those resources are competitive it's at least equal to aggy and I'd say better because of the aformentioned culture anvil that permanently weighs them down.

Or Beard played it exactly right to leverage Ole Miss to up the ante on multiple fronts.

Regardless, pooooooorrrrrr aggy.

Ehh, I think the Turgeon, Billy Clyde, and Kennedy showed what could be done at A&M with the right coach. Mississippi is just a way, way worse job; however, what Mississippi has going for them right now that A&M doesn’t is structure within their leadership and athletic department. I’m also pretty sure Mississippi doesn’t let their fan message board members run the athletic department or have a say so in it either like TexAgs/A&M. But just like A&M, Mississippi just needs the right coach to create history.

If A&M had the right AD who also told TexAgs to fuck off and got their donors all in alignment, it would be a great job considering its recruiting location. But none of that will ever happen because A&M is full of dumbfucks who only care about one-upping Texas and being thought of as being on the same level as Texas. That is really that school’s most major problem.

Beard is also wise to not have taken it when a much better job than either MIssissippi or A&M will open up soon.
