Dogs die generally every 10-12 years and putting them down is the worst.

Also, humans are capable of reacharounds.

Rex doesn't like dogs because they won't give him a reacharound. Weird

Not only condescending but a dumbass.  No, if some random dumbass in a yellow jacket runs up and says 'stop' you don't automatically stop. Especially if said dumbass strikes you with his flashlight.

I really wish Scottie gave an unvarnished, completely true statement other than his initial "big misunderstanding" calm, cool, collected statement.

Something like "I arrived onsite and there was complete chaos with no one in charge. There were a few fat guys in yellow jackets all standing around doing nothing, so I proceeded with extreme caution to the entrance of my workplace. After I had driven a few yards at less than 10mph, one of the fat guys ran up and started pounding at my window, yelling unintelligibly. I calmly rolled down my window, and he yelled “I am in charge here! You will respect my authority! Where do you think you’re going?” I showed him my credential after which he looked utterly confused. He then yelled at me, “you need to wait for me to let you in! I am in charge here! You’re under arrest!” Then he hit me with his flashlight and I decided the best thing to do was shut up and go along until I could talk to my lawyer.

It may sound bad, but when they turn this into Super Troopers 3, it'll be hilarious.

No, their shenanigans are cheeky and fun, not cruel and tragic.

Exactly.

If some random security guard at an event hit me or tried to pull me out of my car, I’m not sticking around to get my ass kicked.

And the yellow jacket as identification? Unmmm nah bro. It’s actually for the police’s protection so that motorists can see them.

Im sure they deal with a lot of assholes everyday. But what I can’t stand is the level of ignorance / basic lack of facts presented to people by cops or their complete unwillingness to understand how people can be afraid of them.

Ex-sheriff gets lowered bond in death of toddler

Mugshot-Template-5.png

A former Knox County sheriff charged in connection with the death of a 1-year-old child in a wreck in Wichita County was granted lower bail.

Michael Lloyd Carlson, 64, testified Friday in 78th District Court he could not come up with the $30,000 it would take to arrange his $300,000 bond.

Carlson was jailed on a manslaughter charge on April 22, 2024, in connection with a wreck on May 17, 2023, on U.S. Highway 287 northwest of Electra.

Carlson was still being held Friday evening in the Wichita County Jail, according to online jail records.

According to allegations in affidavits, Carlson was driving at an unreasonable speed at the time of the collision and not looking out for traffic controls.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said traffic was being diverted from the main highway to U.S. Business Highway 287 due to another wreck shutting down the northbound lanes.

Carlson's pickup was traveling in the left northbound lane, and approaching the detour, the pickup had to move into the right-hand lane, according to allegations. The driver didn't see an SUV in the right-hand lane that was stopping because of slowed traffic.

The pickup struck the SUV in the rear, causing it to slam into the utility box trailer of a truck ahead of it.

Two women and two children in the SUV were injured. Aveline Hill, 1, was taken to a Fort Worth hospital where she died the following day.

Carlson, of Truscott, formerly served as a deputy sheriff and sheriff in Knox County.

He was on probation on a deadly conduct charge in Knox County when the wreck occurred. In that incident, Carlson is accused of firing several shots into a camper trailer, wounding one man.

A pair of law enforcement officers testified on Carlson’s behalf as did his wife.

Judge Meredith Kennedy agreed to lower Carlson’s bail to $150,000 on the condition he stay in Knox County and abide by other restrictions.

https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2024-05-29/5-million-lawsuit-alleges-deputy-gang-shot-caller-boasted-about-gruesome-death-of-fleeing-suspect

Quote

Six years ago, a plumber found the decomposing body of Raymundo Rivera inside a pillar at a Winco supermarket in Lancaster. At the time, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials said the 35-year-old appeared to have fled during a traffic stop and may have “gotten inside there and gotten down to try and hide from the deputies and then couldn’t get out.”

But according to a lawsuit filed Wednesday in L.A. Superior Court, former Deputy Aaron Tanner later boasted that he and other deputies had chased Rivera — and that they knew he’d fallen into the pillar. Instead of trying to save him, the suit says, “the deputies left him there to die, and made false reports that they lost track of the suspect in the pursuit.”

The allegations came to light this week when Tanner’s ex-girlfriend filed a $5-million lawsuit accusing him of physically abusing her for more than two years. The woman, who is identified only as Jane Doe in court filings, also alleged the ex-lawman bragged about being a “shot-caller,” or leader, in a deputy gang known as the Rattlesnakes. According to the suit, he also threatened to have other members of the group “take care of her” if she told anyone about his alleged abuse.

Quote

In addition to raising a litany of other claims about Tanner — including an on-duty incident in which he allegedly cut off a dead horse’s leg — the suit also describes repeated misconduct involving other members of the Rattlesnakes. According to the complaint, Tanner told his ex the group effectively controls the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station and that its members allegedly intimidate other deputies, make false arrests and frame people. Until now, the group has so far garnered little scrutiny compared to more notorious deputy groups operating in East L.A. and Compton.

But the crux of the claims center on Tanner’s alleged abuse and “sadistic tendencies.” In the 17-page filing, Doe accuses the deputy of repeatedly strangling her until she was unconscious, allegedly telling her he needed to do it to maintain “dominance” over her. According to the suit, Doe didn’t report Tanner to authorities because she was afraid of retaliation by other members of the Rattlesnakes.

“Jane Doe saw how powerful Tanner and the Rattlesnakes were, and how they controlled the Lancaster Station,” the suit continues, offering as an example an incident that started when Tanner allegedly told his girlfriend to follow behind him in her car. He drove at a high speed, the suit says, then slammed on the brakes so suddenly that her car crashed into his.

When a bystander called 911, Tanner allegedly called dispatch and told them not to send help.

In late 2022, Doe broke off her relationship with Tanner. Afterward, she alleges, he and other Rattlesnakes members stalked her at work, “terrorizing and intimidating her.” Then in 2023, the suit says, the department began investigating Tanner and officials contacted Doe about an unrelated incident she allegedly witnessed during an unauthorized ridealong with him.

However, Doe was reluctant to talk because she suspected one of the investigating sergeants was a member of the Rattlesnakes and might tell her ex what she would say. Still, the suit says, the department ended up opening an internal criminal investigation into Tanner. Two other deputies allegedly told the department’s internal crime investigators that Tanner had been withholding backup from other deputies and that they’d reported it to the station captain.

“When they reported the withholding of back up,” the suit says, “the captain quickly moved to cover up the deputy gang activity at the station, telling the deputies to never tell him about this again and to ‘get the f— out of my office.’”

In addition to the internal criminal probe, the suit says Tanner was the target of multiple administrative investigations, including one incident in which he allegedly sawed off the leg of a dead horse with a pocketknife and made a trainee hold the leg. The suit doesn’t clarify when the incident supposedly took place, what the deputy allegedly did with the detached leg or why it was removed in the first place.

Now, the department’s probe is “wrapping up,” the suit says, and investigators are “reportedly confident the DA will indict Tanner for the violence committed against Jane Doe and the use of his gang to intimidate the witness.” He has also been given a notice of termination, the suit says.

If there's truth to any of that, I hope the whole department gets purged. Police gangs are worse than street gangs.

It's well-established that the LA Sheriff's department has a gang problem. They even get gang tattoos like other gangs.

https://www.thecity.nyc/2024/06/03/video-nypd-cannabis-raid-adams-hochul/

As a new mayoral task force conducts sweeps of hundreds of shops suspected of selling illegal weed, a video of a raid on a Staten Island store obtained by THE CITY captures how enlisting police to conduct regulatory inspections can lead to criminal charges, igniting concerns about potential due process violations.

The 90-second clip taken from a store surveillance camera on May 18 shows seven uniformed law enforcement officers, most of them in NYPD gear, cursing, jumping over the store counter and charging at a shopkeeper after he asked them for a court order before opening the door to the back of the store.

Instead, the man was cuffed – before any unlicensed cannabis products were found – and taken to a local precinct where he was charged with obstruction of justice, records show.

“When a cop tells you to do something, you fucking do it,” one officer told the shopkeeper.

The surveillance video was shared with THE CITY on the condition that the identity of the shopkeeper be protected. The arrest and criminal charge was confirmed by police records.

Meanwhile our school teachers are paying for supplies out of their own pockets but anywho...

$689,000 is less than half what the US Army paid. They got 28,000 of 'em, at $1.6 Meg each. Apparently they're now being sold or scrapped. Shocked.

EDIT: To be fair, the Army price included R&D.

According to the town of Prosper’s Communications and Media Relations Manager Todd Rice, Prosper Police Department’s emergency rescue vehicle has attended most of the town’s events since it was purchased in 2019.

The armored vehicle was acquired at no cost to the town or its taxpayers through the Federal 1033 program. “Valued at $689,000, its ability to serve in high water rescues, active shooter situations, hostage or barricaded person rescues and any other critical incidents involving our officers or officers in nearby communities, is invaluable,” Rice told Local Profile

Mississippi state trooper is fired after sending sex tape of her and another woman to colleagues

image.thumb.png.240e19ab5e2d503ab3d30211cf7783a7.png

A Mississippi state trooper was fired after sending explicit images and videos to other cops and now she and the woman she had sex with on video are suing each other.

MHP Trooper Ivana Williams was let go from the agency after distributing the video. The unnamed woman in the video claims Williams said she would delete the tape, but instead shared it.

A Mississippi Department of Public investigation into her behavior found that Williams sent explicit images of herself to her superiors and visited porn websites on her state-issued phone.

The other woman in the tape has sued Williams for $11million, and now the former trooper has filed her own suit against the woman for $20million. Williams said the woman’s lawsuit has damaged her reputation and business relationship.

Williams - who is active on social media with several sites - has said that she is “innocent” of wrongdoing and claims her firing was “retaliatory.”
