Those "pearl clutchers" need to check their privilege.

"In 2020, 18,796 defendants were charged with new felonies and misdemeanors while out on bond, a number that has tripled since 2015, county data shows. Approximately 89,600 individuals were charged with felonies and misdemeanors in Harris County that year."

Unless felonies are broken out of that, and then violent felonies, those statistics are meaningless.

The bail and pretrial detention system is not there to prevent crime.

Now, I could go for a rule that murderers maybe shouldn't get bail at all, in most cases.  But that's a different deal.

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones wanted to address two elements of the investigation prior to public comment and questions. He said the departement found no evidence supporting claims by alleged shooter Timothy Simpkins' family that he had been bullied.

"We can’t and we won’t say that there was any evidence of bullying that day or any other day. I also want to say with certainty that Mr. Simpkins was involved in high risk activity," said Chief Jones.
