Baxter might in fact prove to be all that, but even when healthy, he hasn't exactly been that sort of difference maker at the position. You're expecting a lot out of him

It’s not that we need him to be Bijan… we need backs that are durable enough to run the type of game Sark prefers: inside zone.

Behold!  Sark's play calling genius!  In all its glory!

anyone else remember the 4th and 1 toss play to Henry Melton we ran against Ohio State in '05? Similar play with similar results.

Only difference is it was on 4th down so our defense got the safety after.

That TD on the screen pass changed the complexion of everything.

Yeah, for most of this game, the difference was that each team had a screen pass for a touchdown, but ours got ankle tackled.

And if Little Orphan Andy had hit either of the field goals he bricked in Atlanta, we're the SEC champs.

We're *that* close.  After 13 years of being a laughing stock, we have a conference championship and two final fours, and half of y'all are like this guy sucks.

This thread is not going to age well, y'all.  Watch.

Two things can be true at the same time. Sark is an excellent coach. This loss is Sark's fault.

Giving up a screen before half, goal line play calling into a ewers fumble scoop and score. We were the best team in the country with horrendous fuck ups. Even the aggy game where ewers single handily kept them in the game and we needed a defensive goal line stand to seal the game. Sark needs to do a better job at being the head coach and getting this team laser focused with a killer instinct.

This was OU last season all over again but for something a lot more important. I just don't get that entire sequence. You put Arch in in what was a very risky situation that could've resulted in being down 14 and just leave him standing there on a 1st and goal at the 1 when you just need 1 yard. I have to hope next year will be different with Arch under Sark but fuck I'm going to need to see the evidence.

He is an elite QB from winning it all. I can see it happening in Arch's second year as a starter. I never thought Quinn would bring us a championship. He has been too inconsistent this year.

Elite like Riley Leonard? Or Will Howard? Ewers was the best QB in the quarterfinals.

Obviously, we were not the best team.  If Arizona State didn’t show you that, then tonight did.  O line got pushed around, D was close to inept.  Not even going into coaching and play calling.

It doesn't matter if we have Baxter or not. That fucking toss play is absolutely fucking braindead retarded playcalling.

As much as Herman’s pigheaded stubbornness was infuriating, sometimes you need that sort of mentality.

Remember the 4th and 1 against Georgia in the Sugar Bowl? Herman said "fuck it, we are running it straight ahead four straight times and we're going to get into the end zone if it kills us". And that's what we did to win the game.

You can tell sark was scared of the OSU goal line defense reputation. He didn’t get in on first down and started calling plays like we were on the 40.

Indeed, but we could have had 4 chances to QB sneak 1 yard with Arch’s tree trunk power legs churning. Yeah we would find pay dirt 95 times out of 100

He's fucking not. We've won big games under Sark.  OU twice, at Bama, aggy, 2 playoff games.  His 2 playoff losses could easily have been wins.  We're close.  Fuck... I really hope Arch opens things up for Sark next season.  A run threat QB with a great deep ball.  If the defense doesn't take too big a step back and we add the right offensive pieces, we're right there.

Those OU teams sucked ass. Alabama was an amazing win. His 2nd best win is likely at Kansas State in 2022 given how poorly we botched the 2nd half vs ASU and that Michigan couldn't complete a forward pass.

Spoiler alert: it’s Sark

QB. The difference between our offense and those Alabama offenses comes down to the QB.

Tua and Mac Jones were elite college QBs. You put them in our offense and I bet we are national champions this year. Casey Thompson (ass), Hudson Card (ass at Purdue), and Ewers (above average QB with major limitations).

Now, that comes back to Sark. Find an elite college QB like you did at Alabama.

There is a bit of me that's having that lingering doubt that Sark might be our James Franklin. Good enough to win a lot of games but not so much when it's the big game that could lead to postseason glory. He needs to un-Mack Brown his ass with Arch next season because he's looking a bit like 2001-2003 Mack right now. That 2nd down pitch call is going to haunt me until the Spring Game.

I don’t think there is any doubt he had 2023 OU PTSD during that sequence.

I knew we were in trouble when the first down run got stuffed. For whatever reason, whether it’s personnel, play style, Sark, whatever….this team just hasn’t been very good/efficient in goal to go situations. I was sitting there nervous our OL was going to get enough push.

The pitch play was horrible. I 100% understand him not wanting to just pound it up the middle again but literally anything else but tossing it a RB catching it on the 9 yard line in that situation.

It would haunt me less if he straight up just said it was a bad call. The fact that he doesn't recognize that is almost as infuriating as the call itself. Hopefully, some time off helps with that reflection. Otherwise, he is a guy that needs an ex-coach permanently attached to the team as a consultant to point these things out to him

Will Howard was better than he was tonight. Why do I care about the quarterfinals?

I was responding to someone saying Sark just needs an elite QB to win a championship. Will Howard isn't an elite QB. Neither is Riley Leonard. Yet one of them is going to win a championship. Because OSU and ND have better coordinated offenses than Texas.

Ah I misunderstood. You’re correct. But an elite Qb wins with this team this year imo.

He has not proven himself to be a money play caller when it really counts at Texas. He can whiteboard the fuck out of anyone and depants the Floridas of the world with razzle dazzle shit.  But two years in a row we’ve had 4 shots in the redzone to play for a natty and he has shit himself both times. He’s our coach, ride or die, but you’d be forgiven for having a little doubt about his ability to win the big one as HC.

1st down was the right call. Then it went to shit.

2nd down should have been a play action boot with instructions to throw it away if it's not here.

Then pound it 3rd and 4th down. If they stop it then it's a 7 point game with more than 2 minutes and they have the ball on their own goal line.

I was saying this shit before 1st down. It's not hindsight.

Spot on.

If I can get him to relinquish play calling duties are you up for it? Seven figures man.

All He has to do is look across the field tonight. Day even talked about this during the press conferences this week how letting go of playcalling helped him focus on the team overall.

Totally agree. I'm hoping Sark learns from this. It seems weird to say that Sark is killing it as a head coach and punching himself in the dick as a playcaller.

Yep that's what it comes down to. 2 years in a row in the same exact situation and you come up with 0 points combined. Terrible play calling both years.

Listen to this dog shit explanation

I actually think AFTER the shit show and it’s 4th down - you consider the fg and then play to shut them down and get the ball back with a chance to win with a TD. 4th and 8 isn’t really doable there.

Had this exact convo tonight. Elite culture, elite recruiting, elite face of the program, elite talent, very not elite gameday
