His recovery history from alcoholism is his biggest problem. He’s too lenient and forgiving when it comes to second chances because of how he got his second chance. Some shit he lets fly doesn’t cut it if you want to win titles.

He didn't second guess anyone's sobriety.  He said because Sark is a "second chancer" himself, he's too lenient and let's others get away with too much.

The can be true without being a flaw.  Hell, it's a positive trait.  One that might come with downside within this particular context.

I quote and underlined his exact statement. Saying someone's sobriety is "Their biggest problem", is questioning their sobriety.

Read his quote and tell me how you perceived it as a positive.

He then goes on to say that what he learned in sobriety won't cut it if you want to win titles.

I don't know how the hell you consider that not questioning his sobriety.

We disagree.  But who cares?  It's the internet.

If you see anything wrong with what Sark had to say about that playcall there, I dunno what to tell you.

Not being to displace the man in front of you makes it extremely difficult to run goal line offense.

He believed he could get them out leveraged, and it went far worse than expected with the loss of yardage.

It would have been a great call if it worked, but it didn't. The OL was not good enough for us to win today, that's really what football comes down to more often than not.

It wasn't a play call. Sark had 5, 5 downs from the 2 yard line to get a TD. Five attempts.

It results in 7 points for OSU

There is no planet where you call that good coaching.

And.. Correct me if I'm wrong here but I thought coaches were responsible for ya know.. coaching the OL too. Or.. are they on some sort of island and coaches get a pass for their shitty play?

He needs to hire a goalline specialist who can help him figure out not just the pesky short yardage goalline plays but in general plays in the red zone.

It's been awhile since I've played Madden, but I think I've got this.

Sark had basically one stupid play call the whole game.  Overall he called a good game.  There were lots of yards left on the field.  Lots of dumb penalties.  And playing against the best defense we faced.  He and his play calling and coaching had us 1 play from the final game twice.  Fuck off haters.

We choked after the Gbenda INT.

Tonight should be the night that ends the “Sark is an offensive genius” narrative. He has consistently shown in his four seasons at Texas that there are massive flaws in both his system and playcalling acumen. There are far too many stretches in games where the offense is completely non-existent. These aren’t stretches that happen a few times a season. They consistently happen for long stretches of most games during our season.

He has zero feel for calling plays in the red zone. He calls the same slow developing, lateral plays each and every drive inside the 20. Every red zone possession we know the following plays are coming:

1. Play action swing screen that is either lofted above the RBs or blown up 4 yards behind the LOS.

2. Near the goaline he will run out a big package that includes two defensive lineman (see first down on tonight’s definitive 4th quarter drive).

3. Outside toss to the boundary.

4. Fade to the corner which is inevitably underthrown or out of bounds with no chance for the receiver to make a play.

We are at a point where our talent is better than 95% of the country, which will get us to 10 wins most seasons and in playoff contention.  The issue is that Sark is exposed when he meets teams that are as or more talented than we are.  The Bama game last season has proven to be the exception, not the rule.  We played that game about as perfect as we could have, but we have not come close to putting a game like that together since.

It is simply unfathomable that Sark didn’t run out Arch for at least a play or two at the goal line.  I was fine with the first down call, but once that was stuffed we needed a different look. Arch is big enough to where he’s a legit threat for QB sneak, he presents a zone read option threat and he could be a play action boot threat.

We bring back a less talented team next season with a tougher schedule so unless Sark has some serious reflection this offseason in how he calls plays (which I seriously doubt) I have grave concerns that we make the playoffs next season.

Ok.  We disagree on what he meant by his comments.  I'm trying to politely disengage.

With another 2nd down outside run thst predictably got stuffed.

Also I love what Sark has done with the program but Juan Davis running in and out of bunch sets as many times as he did tonight made my head want to explode.

You got a guy out there taking up space thst nobody fears in the pass game and isn’t some stud blocker either.

qb coaching isn't up to par here

shown me ewers improvement the past two years ???

I think that's more on Ewers. Every other QB Sark coached improved. Even Mac Jones sat for a few years then came in and just made all the throws to take advantage of the talent. Ewers could never get to that level. He's just extremely inconsistent.

He was a good transitional QB for Sark to build the team around, especially since he arrived with ridiculous over hype that he couldn't ever come close to living up to being.

That said, I'm very happy I've seen his last game as Texas QB. He and the offense just wasted a championship level defense. This defense should have won the title this year if the QB and offense didn't sabotage the whole thing.

They held OSU to 21 points even with the offense doing nothing for most of the game. That was a damn good accomplishment given what that offense had been doing recently, and it should have been enough to win the game.

There better be a much less predictable and more explosive offense with Manning at QB. He can make every throw consistently, is big as an ox, and can run when necessary. With the defensive talent on campus and coming in this should be an elite defense again soon. Hopefully Manning and Sark can get it right offensively and get us a title in the next 2 seasons.

This is a very flawed team, that lost in a semifinal. We have no RB we can play that weighs over 200#, because of crazy injury luck. Our QB is small and has poor pocket presence, and got hurt mid season and never really recovered.

We have one WR that could get snaps at tOSU. Our kicker got worse from last year. This was a very good year and Sark did a very good job of navigating it.

I'm sorry, I was told this was the greatest team ever assembled at Texas and Steve Sarkisian blew it because he's an idiot.

Should have used Arch on the 1

Actually should have run Ewers. Get in gun, run the zone read look, yet call a Ewers keeper. EVERY defense expects the handoff on that look because it always happens. The ends crash hard on the snap. That was the time to break the tendency and get the game tied late.

I thought Sark called a great game, but he messed up the end of that drive. I also still don't understand why he didn't establish more of a goal line OL package during the season where Nero comes in at LG, Hutson at C, and we just run power with the jumbo extra lineman package. That's the best run blocking OL we have, and if that has been tried and established all season it could have been used more.

He didn’t. He justified it by some bullshit if you block it perfectly blah blah blah

That probably pisses me off more than the play call. Sark thinks that play didn't work because we didn't block it perfectly? I don't think it was possible to block that play "perfectly" given OSU crashing down. We had a pulling guard that had to somehow try to block 2 free defenders.

He just needs to own the shitty play call.

This was a very good team, with significant flaws. There really isn’t a great team- the NC will be either won by a team that lost at home to a 6-5 rival or a team that lost at home to NIU. This team overcame some issues and not others.

I’ll probably get torched for this post (bad timing for that comment) but you guys had a great season.  No, it didn’t end with a national championship, but that only lands on one of 133 teams.  You were one of the very best.  Be pissed you lost.  I get that.  But be proud that you got to the semis.  That’s hard to do.  Very hard.  And you guys are set up for long term success.  I wish we had 1/4 of the resources you have.  You may very well be here next year.  That’s something most of us only dream of.  You are positioned to do it.

Nah.  You hit the nail on the head.   Good luck to UCLA next year.

Name a game this year where sark exceeded expectations

Name a game this year where the expectations were realistic.  Every team has warts.  Every coach has bad play calls.  Three years ago Jake Majors was getting driven into the backfield.  Hayden Conner is unable to bend his knees.  Our QB runs a wind aided 5.0 40.

Guess what play Chip Kelly called on 4th and 2 earlier in the game?   A toss sweep to Judkins that got blown up for a loss.

I’m not going to join the circle jerk and say it was a bad call. It’s a great call if Ohio st believes you’re running up the middle. They just read it and made the stop.

he was probably thinking about arch almost getting that first down when he ran to the right when Ohio State thought we were going at the middle

The parallels with Ohio State and Ryan Day are actually pretty similar.

Both Sark and Day have flaws but only idiots would want them fired or think they're bad coaches. When you keep getting close and stacking talent it's just a matter of time until you break through.
