When were these interviews filmed? I thought this documentary was completed a few years ago.

The footage has been around for a while. The interviews are new and apparently are still being done? They haven’t talked to Stockton yet.

Usually when I see a baggy suit these days, it's being worn by a dumpy middle aged white guy.

Hm. Would I rather look like an Old Croatian woman or a walking coat hanger/eight year old who raided his dad's closet?

Tough call.

My contribution to this derail: when bars are back open and karaoke is once again a thing, strongly recommend performing a rendition of "Humpty Dance." It's a crowd pleaser.

Plus, in a 69 my humpty nose will tickle your rear.

Dennis with some more than kind words about Scottie. Apparently Pippen hasn’t been happy with his portrayal in the series.

He's probably not going to be happy with the next two episodes then when they review how Scottie benched himself because he couldn't get it done and Phil had to draw up a play for Toni.  Scottie's a great player but people sometimes forget, he was kinda of a bitch.

I think it’s inferred from the article that the Game 5 episode and its repercussions, and the renewed scab picking that’s going to come from it, is what has upset him. So, typical Scottie Pippen. But at least he has Dennis in his corner.

Loved Scottie, but he was just naturally soft.  The Pistons bullied him, can't remember if the Knicks focused on him, Barkley would get inches from his face talking shit constantly in the '93 Finals.  Not sure but I think Malone fucked with him in 97-98.  Was pretty shocked to see that video of Oakley fucking with him while they were teammates.  Had that twisted up shirt to the neck grip on him, giving him a shake or two while he talked shit, then shockingly let go with a slap to the face.  That slap was the ultimate lack of respect.  Punked him bad while Scottie nervously giggled.

Scottie had been living in Michael's shadow his whole career up to then.  He finally becomes the man and they decided to give another the clutch shot.  He basically went all pre-Keyshawn on them by saying just give me the damn ball.  It didn't work out for him.  I always thought at least he wanted the shot and to play hero.  Without Pippen, that team, especially then, would'nt even be close in that series, had they even made it.  Sometimes, there's mad respect for everybody collapsing on you because they think you're the best shot scenario so that it opens another pro up.  Besides, the heat would've been far hotter for everybody not named Scottie, had TK missed.

There's so much intrigue which goes into that night and I hope they cover it in the doc.  This is Kukoc's rookie year after finally coming over after playing out some of his contract in Europe.  As detailed, Scottie hates Toni because he's Krause's guy.  Also, there's the contracts.  Scottie was making like 3 million and Toni was making like 2, but there were some escalators which could push it past 3 million, so Scottie is going insane because this Euro rookie, who he's better than may end up getting paid more.  Finally, as you stated, it's the Alpha, out of MJ's shadow, thing.  Scottie had a great season and cemented himself as one of the best 10 or so players in the game averaging career highs in several categories, but Scottie's not really a fantastic jump shooter from distant and not really a "clutch" dude.

In the game, just a few minutes ago (seconds in game time), Pippen had the opportunity to put a dagger into the Knicks and couldn't get it done.  He dribbles around aimlessly and then launches a desperation 3 as the shot clock expires that misses the rim.  It was terrible and Ewing scores to tie up the game a few seconds later.  Now, apparently on the play, Scottie motioned to Toni to set a screen for him on the side but Kukoc didn't get the message and Scottie is pissed..... so all of that goes into the cocktail and Scottie is ready to explode.  Not to mention the Bulls had blown a 22 point lead and then there's this last nugget...... Toni's already hit 3 buzzer beater sthis year to win games.  He'll make a 4th to win the game and Scottie looks like the biggest pussy on the planet... LOL!!!

EDIT:  Oh, also to note, Kukoc had played a shitty game up to that point and was 1-5 from the field and 3-6 from the line and still Phil goes to him.  Ha, ha, ha.

I wish this was a 30 part series where Jordan just talks about all of the players he played with and the ones that came after him.  I'd love to hear his thoughts in Duncan, Shaq, Kobe, and LeBron.

He gave you his thoughts on Kobe at Kobe's funeral already.  Shaq might be an entertaining one because at least they played enough times.  Duncan only played Jordan twice while Jordan was still in Chicago and that was Duncan's rookie year. LeBron and Jordan never met on the court so I'm guessing you're just hoping MJ would throw shade at him for losing so many NBA Finals.

I had the same thoughts but it should just be his contemporaries what iffing. His reaction to watching Gary Payton talking about how he was wearing Jordan out was the single greatest moment of this doc by far.

Gary Payton was fucking great. Probably a top 10 PG all time and maybe the best defensive PG ever. Jordan just eviscerated his entire career with the most dismissive cackle ever. I just pray to God there is a similar Karl Malone moment.

I know the players he played and the ones he didn’t. I didn’t watch Kobe’s funeral. I know what he thought about Bird and Magic. I’m curios about what he thinks about the greats that came after him, but obviously not curios enough to see if those comments are out there already.

Jordan can laugh at GP, who was predictably brash. But the numbers show that MJ did struggle the 2nd half of that series.

Nope--when the series ended and the Bulls were eliminated, they all went out and shook hands.

what's great for me is the insight into the mindset of what it takes to be that successful. we all knew he was gifted with immense physical talent. what i didn't know was how absolutely maniacal he was about winning and doing whatever it took, from training his ass off everyday to being a complete, utter asshole to teammates and competitors. you were his friend if you worked as hard and proved yourself. you were his enemy if you played against him or as a teammate didn't hold yourself up to his standard of excellence.

like i said, there have been, are, and will be others who are just as physically gifted. however, it's doubtful we'll see another person as physical talented but also as fucking crazy about competing and winning as he was.

amazing that he was semi successful and probably could've been very successful in playing baseball.

I'd say on a scale of 10 quitting on your team is around an 11. Not shaking hands after an ass kicking is merely a 3-4 compared to that move. I remember it happening, and having 0 respect for Scotty after that.  The fact he apologized helped, but he fucking quit on his own damn team when they needed him most. Even if it was to be just a decoy.

He doubled down on it again last night by saying he would probably do the same thing again. It was and will remain a stain on his legacy.

Snippet from his camp the year after he retired.

From an article when he turned 50 in 2013 on ESPN:

  Quote

JORDAN PLAYS his new favorite trivia game, asking which current players could be nearly as successful in his era. "Our era," he says over and over again, calling modern players soft, coddled and ill-prepared for the highest level of the game. This is personal to him, since he'll be compared to this generation, and since he has to build a franchise with this generation's players.

"I'll give you a hint," he says. "I can only come up with four."

He lists them: LeBron, Kobe, Tim Duncan, Dirk Nowitzki. As he's making his point, Yvette walks into the living room area and, in a tone of voice familiar to every husband who argues sports with his buddies, asks, "You guys need anything?"

When someone on TV compares LeBron to Oscar Robertson, Jordan fumes. He rolls his eyes, stretches his neck, frustrated. "It's absolutely … " he says, catching himself. "The point is, no one is critiquing the personnel that he's playing against. Their knowledge of how to play the game … that's not a fair comparison. That's not right … Could LeBron be successful in our era? Yes. Would he be as successful? No."

Expand

Obviously, it would be cool if he would do more players, but in true Jordan fashion, he doesn't really respect anyone but the all-time greats of their eras.
