Brett's Backyard Barbecue in Rockdale is pretty good.  Was on TM Top 25 new places in 2019.  It's a trailer and outside eating, but plenty shaded with pecan trees.  Never had to wait more than 10 minutes to order.

Drove that route a ton when my wife was going through chemo, never found anything good in between. Most of the good food in Killeen are small asian, Caribbean, or Latino joints.

Best rec would probably be Arepitas.  Venezeluan food in Heights, get the Parrillita.

good Pho - Chau’s cafe

good Thai - Tham Rab Thai

good Korean - O Mart Cafe

good Caribbean - Ava’s for south Killeen, Island Spice if you’re north of 190.

good PR/Cuban - Killeen Nutritional Center (not a joke, it’s a WIC store / cafe, but they put out some bomb food, their Cuban sandwiches are the best I’ve found outside of Florida).  If you want more of a sit down place, Coasta Caribe or Tex-Rican.

There really aren’t any good BBQ joints in town, we go to the HEB on Stan Schleuter if we don’t have time to make our own

Oh and there is a German bakery on Heights called Pfeifers.  Great bread, pastries and cold cuts, but get there early.  They sell out of good stuff quick.
