Goldees is closed Thursdays when I’ll be landing at DFW around 10 am and meeting a friend. Should we go to Pecan Lodge, Terry Blacks or venture out of the way to Panther City? If it matters I’ll be meeting family at Buc-ees near Terrell later that afternoon.

Go to Terry Blacks 100%. I like all four choices, but I would go to Terry Blacks

True. Just trying to help a guy out to get them most out of his experience.

To me it’s easy to be a one trick pony. I prefer a place that knocks many menu items out of the park. The brisket is out standing. Almost all of his stuff is really really good. sausage is average but I would not drive any where for just sausage.

Good sides round out the great Q

I’ll be working in San Antonio tomorrow around loop 410 and 35. Anything worth trying that way?

Lots of Bill Miller Bar-B-Q locations down there.  I can recommend the Fried Chicken and French Fries.

I’d head south and look at 2M.  but @CoachTex is the resident San Antonio expert. perhaps he will provide assistance.

Well I make my own at the house and San Antonio is a bbq desert.  The 1 spot I like is on the other side of town in the Helotes area.  About a 30 to 45 minute drive.  B-Daddy's. Pretty damn good. Haven't tried 2M or Pinkerton's. Bill Miller's is shit for bbq. Think McDonald's of bbq. Heard good stuff about big bib bbq in that area. 104 Lanark Dr, San Antonio, TX 78218 but can't vouch for them. Bbq station also had some good stuff 20 years ago but not sure now.

All month on Michael Berry's show he is having a different BBQ restaurant owner (Southeast Texas areas), on to interview them about their food, etc.

I was listening on the way to work and he had on Patrick Feges of Feges BBQ.

Has anyone tried this place?

Michael Berry? That guy is a douchebag.

I would say most of the Houston posters have been to Feges. I have been 3 times. Very good, but not my top for Houston.

Haha well my CNN XM channel doesn’t talk about Texas BBQ.

Pre-Covid I ate there once a week. If they had a special, I'd stop by. Other than walking by their location, there's no early warning system.

Their beef rib is incredible, but they rarely serve it. Maybe once in 2 years. Their whole chicken is really good. Better than Roegels. I'd say Roegels has better brisket. Their everyday items are pretty hit or miss. I've had great lunches there, and some pretty forgettable ones. Their chicharrones are the best I've ever had. I like their sides as well. Some cool takes on pretty traditional dishes.

Pass on the brisket bagel. It just doesn't work. Meh on their breakfast tacos too.

Heading to Houston for tonight's Rangers/Astros game. What are the chances of grabbing some Truth's if we get there around 1 today?

You should be fine. The big work crowds aren't there on weekends. Highly doubt they'll run out of much before they close at 4.

Had curbside tejas chocolate bbq yesterday and it was glorious, even to go. Ribs were ok, brisket was excellent, sausage is still my favorite there. The carrot soufflé was fucking amazing.

Back to Feges for a second. I saw they are building out a spot on Longpoint. I imagine their business will double. Greenway Plaza wasn’t a good location.

I’ve been eyeballing that location as they work on it. They are banking on some area revitalization.  Some of the joints around there are sketchy but also some diamonds in the rough.

Agreed. Access to the Greenway Plaza Hub in which Feges is located was very restrictive during Covid. I have no idea how they survived. They should do more lunch business during the summer.

Good news on the Long Point location, but they’re going to have to do something to stand out. Pinkerton’s and Truth both have fairly decent patios and set ups. Roegels has cool daily specials. I’d recommend a bad ass patio with very cheap drinks.

If you think that is sketchy, you need to take a ride with me one day.

I know Grant is our unofficial BBQ Surly guy now and i'm certainly down with supporting him every chance i get, but damn if Truth didn't put out some phenomenal brisket today.  Pinkertons still does better ribs but Truth was on point and has the best brisket in town right now.

There has been a whole lot of money/developers eyeing that whole area for some time.  The tipping point is closer than most think.

Stunns38 where did hit up for grub?

Unfortunately, I got caught up with work and had to drive back to Dallas. I ended up stopping by Taco Palenque in New Braunfels on the way back. Overpriced and mediocre. Should have picked up some Bill Miller fried chicken.

so my middle kid is awesome and won all sorts of awards, accolades, scholarships and honors...all because of his paternal genetics, of course. but in my travels to watch some KE issue dominate, i stopped at Mimsy’s in Crockett.

no pics as i was in a rush. best fatty brisket i’ve ever had.

the banana pudding cheesecake was fuck you good. seriously pornographic...as in “fuck my ass like NowThis with this cheesecake just get it in my body” good. It was my cheat day indulgence and i nailed it.

that’s all i ordered.

it’s the hands down best between Beaumont and Tyler, the Trinity and the Sabine.

Best brisket you say? Next time I am in shitty East Texas I will give it a run.

I was never overly impressed with Roegel’s. And a couple of times I was there they were kind of rude but whatever, had bbq.

Oh yeah, I had Leroy and Lewis today. They hired some help and Leroy and his wife were not there. I should have taken pictures of what I was served. Asked for 1/2 lbs of beef cheeks and either the misunderstood or Evan is more generous. It seemed like 1/4”. Still out of this world delicious.

I'll be the first to admit that east Texas isn't flush with great barbeque (with exceptions to plug my current hometown), but Mimsy's doesn't look bad.

Yup. Roegels is the Gatlins of west houston. No reason to go there with E’s, Blood Bros, and Truth all 15 min away
