Texas BBQ

She talked me into the steak over brisket. No regrets.

Interestingly, the flat iron eats more like brisket and the chuck eats more like steak.  I'd like to find a couple of the full flat irons or top blade roasts and attempt to smoke.  However, the butcher usually cuts them in half to remove the inedible (unless slow cooked, apparently) facia that runs across the meat (seen in the cross section cuts from L&L).

Any recs for Irving?  Specifically the Las Colinas area?  Going to be there for work this week and could use some good bbq.

Cattleack in Farmer’s Branch is open Wed-Fri for lunch

@Patricio Swayze

Any recs on Reese Bros? Probably hitting it next weekend and want to make sure I’m there early enough to try everything.

The queso funditio sausage is awesome

Their poblano mac is currently my favorite side in bbq

Can't go wrong with any of their specials or the main meats.

It's fucking excellent and I need to go soon.

I'm assuming L&L is Leroy & Lewis 'cause the only L&L I know is the Hawaiian chain on William Cannon

Probably a pretty good assumption that he's not talking about a chain Hawaiian "barbecue" joint in the Texas BBQ thread.  I didn't even know that was a thing.  Nothing on their menu remotely looks like Texas barbecue.  Thanks for the heads-up, though.  I will write out LeRoy & Lewis going forward to avoid any confusion.

Yeah, like I said... I see L&L and I know think that place.  Still weird going to Leroy & Lewis' new location vs the Cosmic food truck.

Anyway, have a Hawaiian friend who swears by L&L.  Its like the Hawaiian McDonald's.  200 locations, mostly HI and the west coast.

L&L is awesome and delicious. Love me some lava lava chicken. It is not Texas BBQ.

Hey Gents,

So I am taking a foreign female down to Fredericksburg from Dallas and taking the back way via 67 and then 16. I know there is Cooper's on the way but no idea if it has become a name brand or is still worth hitting.

I would love any recommendations on places to stop along the way. Thank you!

Seems the wrong forum for asking about if it's worth hitting a foreign female taking the back way

Cattleack never disappoints. Was on the way to lunch somewhere else and got the email that there wasn't a line. Did a quick U-turn and got here before the rush....

Does Todd still work there? I know they sold the business and he was staying around for some period of time. Maybe one of the only transitions of a top 50 joint that worked out in recent memory?

Todd and Misty were not there yesterday.  I did see them the last time I went which was back in October I think.

Reese Bros.

Brisket was excellent. Really thick cut (1/4 inch). Great bark, flavor. Just really well done. A notch below Terry’s or Pink’s but still very high level. The queso Fundido was pretty great also. Just another really well done meat. Homemade tortillas were exceptional. Turkey was real good. All sides were good except potato salad was kinda whack.

Definitely worth going and would definitely go back. Really good stuff.

I feel like every saturday the snow's instagram account posts "short line today" or some variation of that.  is their business falling off or is just the winter months?

I think the weather is a huge factor.  This was the Franklin line this morning right before opening.

Can you go ahead and also write out the word “and” in lieu of using the ampersand? We need this to be really clear for some posters.

Technically Texas BBQ: Bill Millers Sauce Lawsuit

When you want your really shitty bbq to be piping hot….who the hell made the brilliant decision to also sell bbq out of a restaurant that was clearly destined to sell breakfast tacos, fried chicken, and pies? Should have called it Bill Miller anything but BBQ

Tried Pecan lodge in Deep Ellum today. Friend of mine told me to go there instead of Terry Blacks. Everything was amazing, turkey was probably the best I’ve ever had. Everything else was very good.IMG_4294.thumb.jpeg.64a92fd3c774659019b7e3e34a662fd2.jpeg

Man Pecan Lodge used to be so good but they've gone to crap since they left their old spot at the Farmer's Market.  They were the only game in town at the time.  DFW has so many better options these days.

Yeah I have no clue. I’m from OKC, my daughter is here for a cheer competition and a buddy of mine suggested it. I was going to hit Terry Blacks but he said Pecan Lodge was better. Again good was amazing.
