So excited to go to the SEC with these Tennessee assholes

We may not have had SEC bag men handing out cash in $10k increments, but there were always Texas players driving new cars (Tahoe my Tahoe) and living in apartments a lot nicer than they could afford on their athlete stipend, at least in the late Mack, Charlie, Herman eras.

You are comparing apples to hand grenades, man. Not even worth rebutting.

Ideally, he’ll sit this season out, declare for the NFL and go undrafted.

Somebody will grab him. Per X he’s worth about a million today, but tomorrow is portal day and coaches will be in a frenzy this week.

I haven’t followed the story since early this morning. ESPN said UNC is out. Tech said no. That about covers the teams willing to match his deal at Tennessee.

Is UCLA out? Last I heard they were still interested.

I love the media’s coverage of this bullshit.

- Nico holds out. It’s a huge story with the talking heads proclaiming player empowerment in college football.

- Nico’s camp leaks a list of potential suitors. All the podcasters spend at least an hour discussing who can offer him the most NIL money.

- All of the teams on the list shoot him down, and crickets from the media.

This kid is going end up at NC State playing for $200k and use of a gently used Dodge Charger.

Every morning this week the sports radio guys have been hammering him for making a huge mistake because he’s not worth what he’s asking and others don’t want to reward him for how it went down. It’s still a hot topic. The next big story will be when an actual elite QB does this, that player will get paid, this guy just isn’t as good as he thinks.

Not necessarily. That means you can't contact him personally but you're still able to contact his agent/representative, in this case his dad.

Certainly by now they have an agent.  Certainly.  Maybe?

Not that I put too much stock into Trojan homer Cowherd, but

https://x.com/colincowherd/status/1912594170008727615?s=46&t=As_M15SjGyqQUIWqUNog2w

Could be a unique opportunity to get a player that would otherwise be out of reach financially for UCLA

Rumor from Tennessee NIL people because I'd guess they'd know somewhat because of his rights deal is that it's a little over 1 million.

"It’s not about the money" usually means it's 100% about the money.

This time it means "we're taking a huge paycut and are making up a bullshit cover story".

Thomas Goldkamp: Nico Iamaleava to UCLA is done deal

Quote

The Nico Iamaleava saga appears to be coming to a close. Colin Cowherd is reporting he will head to UCLA. Cowherd revealed that bit of news on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon. He included a few relevant bits of info in the tweet. “I am told — moments ago — Nico Iamaleava is going to UCLA,” Cowherd wrote. “Family still claims it’s NOT about the (money bag emoji) It’s about the @Vol_Football offense. I was not told what the Bruins are paying.”

Iamaleava, of course, is coming off a season in which he helped lead Tennessee to the College Football Playoffs. However, following that campaign, he was involved in “active negotiations” over his NIL compensation package. Shortly after news of those conversations broke, Tennessee announced it would be parting ways with the talented quarterback. The irreconcilable differences led Iamaleava to enter the transfer portal. Nico Iamaleava is coming off a season in which he went 213-of-334 passing (63.8%) for 2,616 yards and 19 touchdowns, against just five interceptions. He also ran for 358 yards and three scores.

Pops needs to sit this out. Good luck SB, there's that chance that he gets it, but greater chance he's a jackass for life.

We've dealt with nosey dads before...

It's apparently done.  If nothing else, UCLA football just got a lot more interesting in 2025.

Interesting is one word for it.

I hope the best for you (SBB) and Nico, if it pans out. I know it’s been a rough decade+ for y’all (we can feel your pain post 2010), but to wear one of the best uniforms on TV (lighter blue) and to get to play half your games in the Rose Bowl! As an older guy, those two would be a recruiting advantage IMO.

Just want the possible best in this situation for Tennessee. Neyland is awesome in the Fall as a CFB fan. Didn’t ride a boat to the experience in the mid -‘80s, but was an awesome experience and stepped on one or two docked boats. And I was a youngster, with eyes wide open!

I’m torn.  I love sbbruin but also a Tennessee fan. Actually not torn at all. Fuck em.  He will transfer again.

It’s ok to have other “favorites” IMO. Once Dad had players possibly on TV each weekend for Tennessee, on the Jefferson Pilot Broadcast (old WTBS) I really became a fan of Tennessee. It always seamed like (80s) all of their games home/away were on TV.

Shit my Dad was my HS FBHC and I begged him to order Black Nike’s for my Senior year! At the time there was only like 4-5 “Blue Bloods” wearing black shoes. We were like a “service academy” running a variation of the Wishbone anyways. I got my way and we might’ve looked slow AF, but we looked good IMO.

He had such a large-sized head and helmet, that was his nickname. CSB - Dad ordered him a special helmet for Troy’s Senior year, but was late in arrival. Dad actually went to the Cowboys and got a loner for Troy’s first or second scrimmage that season.

Hook’em!!!
