He rarely stepped behind the arc, but Rik Smits had as sweet a stroke as any 7-footer these eyes have seen.

And, yes, phrasing.

Every single time the Pacers were on TV my dad was guaranteed to make a "Dutch boy in the paint!" remark. It's the only thing I can remember about Rik Smits though.

I'm not even that big of a Laker hater, per se. I LOVED the showtime Lakers when I was a kid. They were my second favorite team. Magic is probably my favorite non-Spur of all time. I always rooted for them over the Celtics or whoever else they were playing other than the Spurs.

But I hated the Kobe era Lakers (because I hated the way he played) and I really hate this incarnation. The players are so utterly unlikeable -- Westbrook, Carmelo, Dwight Howard, Lebron, etc. It also makes it so much more satisfying when they struggle because they have such a massive advantage in free agency. They don't have to build like other teams in the league. So when they do stupid shit like trade for Westbrook and gut their bench and struggle, I find it highly entertaining.

While we're letting the truth come out I have a soft spot for Kobe. And not because he died.

Didn't mean to unfairly characterize - just recalled you've had a couple great posts on this current iteration.

One of my favorite post game responses from Kobe. I bring this up when my teams are approaching different milestones and I hear about "It's essentially done" or "Oh, yeah, this is done, it'll be checked in today" or "Oh, it's basically done". The mindset is exactly how I approach my job. Fuck the Lakers, though.

I came ready to pile on, but then I looked at his stats. KAT has multiple seasons (well, partial seasons) shooting ~40% from deep on over 5 attempts per game. That's fucking stout for a big.
Dirk only shot 40% with over 4 attempts per game once in his career.
So I guess the question is, "if a 3 falls in Minneapolis, does anyone give a fuck?"

If he didn’t bitch about every call, and could lead better, he’d be more appealing to outside basketball fans. Because he is one of the few 3 level scorers in todays game. And has exceptional athleticism and dribbling skills. So yea I’m gonna say his quote is dumb even tho he beats Dirk in almost every category.

All time clip. Almost like it was scripted and acted.

'09/'10 is the best version of Kobe. He really had to reinvent himself and learn how to lead a team - not just be an auxiliary to one of the most dominant players ever.

I give him a lot of credit for those 2 seasons. He was easier to appreciate during those runs as compared to the mid 2000s shot-chucking version that didn't play winning basketball - or the embarassing retirement tour season.

Granted I also think the league wasn't all that competitive pre Heatles and post peak Suns and big 3 Spurs (before the big 3 got back to the drawing board and Duncan slimmed down at least).

This makes me ragey, and I couldn't give the slightest of fucks about the San Antonio Spurs and how many championships they think that they were cheated out of. I imagine Mitch, Patrick, Kermit, Hate, etc. must wake up twice a month in a cold sweat because of this shit.

I’ve gotten over it. It just takes time, heroin, lots of masturbation aided by massive amounts of cocaine and viagra, alcohol, the WNBA, strippers, and Mormonism.

Fuck Derek Fisher.

Eh, 2013 was the one that hurt the most for me. The joy of 2014 almost balanced out the pain.

Almost.

I hope you have a great time, get laid, and watch the Lakers get handed a loss so monumental it dwarfs the Memphis/OKC game from earlier this month.

Saw a proposed trade that had Okie City trading some number of picks for Sabonis since they want to blow it up and it assumed Okie City keeps SGA, Giddy, and Dort.  Everyone else was expendable.

Interested if Okie City makes that.  If they think those 4 are a title core in the next 3-4 years, maybe.  Sabonis is the oldest in that equation and he's only 25.

I just clicked on the Lakers' game cast randomly, and the lineup on the floor was LeBron, Melo, Russ, Rondo, IT.

Needless to say, this team is awesome.

This is just embarrassing. I mean, fuck Lebron and “this is his bed he needs to sleep in it”, but at least try to make it past half-court.

That picture is totally misleading. What happened on that play is LeBron never made it back on defense and then the ball came out ahead to him as he was cherry picking. His teammates aren't in the picture because they were actually playing defense. The spurs did a good job of getting back. Then when his teammates came down on offense he was one on one with Londale and instead of blowing by him he took a lazy three that he bricked.

Eh. I wouldn't say it's that misleading. Truth is somewhere in between.

Sure he takes an early shot clock 3 but the Lakers had plenty of time to maybe get one guy past the 3 point line or more than 2 past half court.

Also, Dirk sends his regards you playoff neophyte. I’m sorry, I’m being told he has won exactly one playoff game in his career. I wish Jimmy would’ve kicked this clowns ass in public.

It’s probably best to make these kinds of proclamations when you’re the leader of one of the elite teams in the Western Conference. I would think the greatest big man shooter of all-time would have at least a playoff series win or two under his belt by now.
