Dunno but Michigan romped

Michigan gets special treatment by the B1G such that they're essentially rewarded for not managing COVID-19.

Wow, UH chokes down the stretch losing lead late at home...
Memphis leads 63-53 under a minute left

Said it after their last loss . So overrated in my opinion . Play one ranked team all year . Don’t get the love . 5th-6th if played in big 12. My humble opinion

WOW -- Didn't realize Larry Brown is an assistant coach at Memphis for Penny Hardaway

Memphis wins 69-59 in Houston -- 2nd loss in a row for UH

UH losing at Home to an unranked Team just seems on par for CBK this season.

It would be, imo, if that specific unranked team wasn't a Memphis program in a complete death spiral with a terrible coach.

In other news, Washington up double digits on Zona in the first half, Marquette about to lose to Butler.

SMU leads the American now. We probably need UH to drop another unless we win out (still have @UH on the schedule). It then goes into weird record-against-highest-ranked-teams tiebreakers.

In January, Tech played @Baylor,(Tue,) Oklahoma State( Thu,) and @KSU( Sat) in the same week.

UCLA Men's Basketball Falters Against USC in 5th-Straight Crosstown Rivalry Loss

The Bruins have yet to beat the Trojans since Mick Cronin arrived in Westwood three years ago.

Quote

Like it has the past few times, the crosstown showdown between the Bruins and Trojans came down to a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

This time, it was the blue and gold putting up the desperation heave. Unlike Tahj Eaddy and Ethan Anderson before him, Tyger Campbell's try with time expiring clanked off the back rim, and it was the cardinal and gold who came out victorious.

"Yeah, it felt good and it looked good," Campbell said. "But it didn't go in, so it is what it is."

No. 12 UCLA men's basketball (17-5, 9-4 Pac-12) lost to No. 21 USC (21-4, 10-4) by a score of 67-64 on Saturday night at the Galen Center. The result marked five losses in a row for the Bruins against the Trojans, their longest losing streak in the head-to-head series in over 60 years.

With the largest section in Galen Center history packing the building, the fans stormed the court and mobbed the players and coaches as the tunes and chants blared loudly through UCLA's postgame media availability.

"I don't know why anybody would storm the court for beating us," said coach Mick Cronin, whose team has now lost three out of four.

Cronin has still yet to beat USC since arriving in Westwood.  (OUCH)

As close as it got towards the end, UCLA was playing from behind for a lot of the night in a blow-for-blow battle of teams that were both reliant on one player – Tyger Campbell and Drew Peterson. On any other night, that probably would have been forward Isaiah Mobley for USC, but he was out with a concussion Saturday.

Not even 90 seconds after the opening tip, Campbell caught an elbow to the face, which the officials ruled was not a flagrant. The physicality down low highlighted a messy opening stretch that included a pair of missed layups for the Bruins and a handful of turnovers and contested 3-pointers.

UCLA made its first real run with a pair of Campbell jumpers, free throws and fast break scores from guard Johnny Juzang. That stretch only put them up 10-6, though, and it only took USC two minutes before it snatched the lead back.

The Trojans made that leap by hitting 3-pointers, including three in a row from forward Harrison Hornery, guard Reese Dixon-Waters and guard Drew Peterson. USC went up by six when Peterson drilled another triple, but forward Cody Riley immediately answered with his first 3 of the year during a three-minute stretch without a single dead ball.

Peterson stayed hot from three after the media timeout, putting the Trojans up by eight with another 3-pointer a few minutes later while the Bruins continued to miss pull up jumpers and get blocked around the hoop. Campbell went on an 8-0 run all on his own, hitting two 3s and a pair of free throws to tie things up at 31 in the final minute of the first.

"The whole time, I was just worried about winning and keeping us in the game," Campbell said. "Just doing what coach needed me to do."

Peterson drilled a fadeaway jumper to lift USC to a 33-31 halftime lead, nearly matching Campbell's 16 first-half points with 15 of his own in just the opening period. Outside of Campbell, UCLA was shooting 6-of-22 at the break, while USC was shooting 8-of-22 not including Peterson

Onto the (Katz) Power 36 with a new No. 1 team (previous ranking in parentheses):

  1. Gonzaga (2): The Zags are absolutely crushing WCC competition.
  2. Kentucky (4): The Wildcats have the current front runner for national player of the year in Oscar Tshiebwe.
  3. Arizona (8): The Wildcats swept three road games at Arizona State, Washington State and Washington.
  4. Auburn (1): The Tigers dropped a road game at Arkansas in overtime. No shame in that defeat.
  5. Kansas (7): The Jayhawks are currently the new favorite in the Big 12.
  6. Duke (6): The Blue Devils did lose at the buzzer to Virginia but they pass the eye test of being a title contender.
  7. Purdue (3): The Boilermakers had a brutal week with three games and the loss at Michigan seemed to be an anomaly. This team is tired.
  8. Illinois (5): The Illini are having trouble with Purdue and that’s about it when they’re healthy.
  9. Providence (10): The Friars have a two-game lead on Villanova with a major showdown against the Wildcats Tuesday night.
  10. Villanova (13): The Wildcats are primed for a showdown with the Friars Tuesday night.
  11. Baylor (17): The Bears did beat Texas handily but lost Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua to a season-ending knee injury.
  12. Ohio State (12): Yes, I know the Buckeyes lost at Rutgers. But they finished the week with an impressive win at Michigan.
  13. Texas Tech (15): The Red Raiders did lose to Oklahoma but then rebounded to knock off TCU.
  14. Wisconsin (16): The Badgers lost at home to Rutgers, but earlier in the week did win at Michigan State.
  15. Tennessee (23): The Vols are back in the good graces of the poll and moving up in the SEC.
  16. Arkansas (20): Yes, the Hogs lost to Alabama but earlier in the week they knocked off No. 1 Auburn.
  17. USC (28): The Trojans shot up in the Power 36 after knocking off rival UCLA.
  18. Alabama (26): The Tide is turning toward 'Bama in the SEC with wins over Arkansas and Mississippi State.
  19. Texas (21): The Longhorns got past Kansas but couldn’t get over Baylor.
  20. Wyoming (22): The Pokes have won six in a row and are now the team to beat in the Mountain West.
  21. UCLA (14): The Bruins slide back after losing to rival USC.
  22. Notre Dame (25): The Irish have won four in a row and have a one-game lead for second place in the ACC.
  23. Murray State (34): The Racers have won 14 in a row. KJ Willaims scored 39 points in a win over Tennessee State last week.
  24. Michigan State (18): The Spartans ended the week with a home win over Indiana after a loss to Wisconsin.
  25. Miami (NR): The ‘Canes are back in the top 25 of the Power 36 after winning at Wake Forest.
  26. SMU (NR): The Mustangs are now in first place in the AAC after beating Houston.
  27. Houston (9): The Cougars had a rough week losing to SMU and Memphis. But they have been running on fumes and deserve one bad week.
  28. UConn (27): The Huskies had a wild week with a win over Marquette, a frustrating loss at Xavier and then a road win at St. John’s.
  29. Rutgers (NR): The Scarlet Knights aren’t in the field just yet, but are firmly on the bubble after beating Ohio State and winning at Wisconsin for their fifth and sixth Quadrant 1 wins.
  30. Memphis (NR): Penny Hardaway has the Tigers back in position to get an NCAA tournament bid after winning five in a row and beating Houston.
  31. Oregon (19): The Ducks take a tumble after losing to Cal at home. But the Ducks are still an NCAA tournament team — barely.
  32. VCU (NR): The Rams have won six of seven and are in a position to overtake Davidson in the A-10.
  33. San Francisco (35): The Dons have won five of six and look like an NCAA tournament team.
  34. Colorado State (NR): The Rams have won four in a row since falling at Wyoming.
  35. Boise State (24): The Broncos fell at home to Colorado State but are still in a position to get a bid.
  36. Virginia (NR): The Cavaliers have won four in a row, including stunning Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium to get back on the bubble.

Dropped out: Marquette (11), Washington State (29), Wake Forest (30), Saint Mary’s (31), Indiana (32), Davidson (33), Ohio (36).

Also under consideration: Michigan, Iowa, Seton Hall, Xavier, North Carolina, Oklahoma, TCU, Kansas State, LSU, San Diego State, BYU, Loyola Chicago, Vermont, North Texas, South Dakota State.

39. San Diego State: Can’t afford to stub its toe.

40. TCU: The schedule down the stretch is arduous.

41. Indiana: Just 9-37 from three-point range in back-to-back losses.

Iowa State at #35 seems way too high...

Rutgers is a wild team, started conference play at 4-4 with some absolutely awful losses including a home loss to Lafayette who is 8-15 and currently 3rd to last in the Patriot League. Won over Purdue when they were #1 back in December, came off an OT loss to a terrible Northwestern team into currently sitting on a 3-game win streak over Michigan State, Ohio State, and @ Wisconsin. Wouldn't shock me at all if they make it 4 when they host Illinois on Wednesday, who beat them by 35 earlier in the season. Then they'll turn around and probably lose to Purdue on the road by 30.
