True, although Maryland's bankrupt athletic department is now the Big Ten's problem.

Well, there’s a reason that if you are middling HS student from New Jersey who can pay full freight, Maryland is your jam.

That's not nearly as interesting of a question as why in the blue fuck are you watching Georgia and Aggy play basketball?

Long live Izzo.

Any idea to rid college basketball of the traditional postgame handshake line in the wake of Sunday's incident involving Michigan coach Juwan Howard striking an opposing coach in the face would be a "farce," Michigan State coach Tom Izzo said.

The suggestion to do away with the handshake line has come up after Howard hit Wisconsin assistant coach Joe Krabbenhoft in the face as tempers flared following Sunday's game.

"That, to me, would be the biggest farce, joke, ridiculous nature of anything I've ever heard of," Izzo told reporters Monday. "We've already taught these poor 18-year-olds that when you're told to go to class and you don't like it, you can leave. We've already told these kids that if you're not happy, you can do something else. We've already told these kids that it's hard to hold them accountable.

"And now we're going to tell them to not man up and walk down a line to someone who's kicked your butt and have enough class to shake their hand is utterly ridiculous. So if the president said it, I think he's full of it. If the best coach in America said it, I think ... that gets me more than this incident."

Izzo said getting rid of the handshake line would just be another "excuse" to avoid a teachable moment.

"Not shaking hands, that's typical of our country right now," Izzo said. "Instead of solving the problem, let's make an excuse and let's see if we can just, instead of confronting and demanding that it changes, let's eliminate it so that we don't have those problems. Let's try to do that."

Howard was suspended five games -- the remainder of the regular season -- and fined $40,000, the Big Ten Conference said Monday. Wisconsin coach Greg Gard was fined $10,000 for violating the conference's sportsmanship policy.

Howard and Gard exchanged words in the handshake line following the Badgers' 77-63 victory, with Howard putting his finger in Gard's face and grabbing Gard's shirt before being surrounded by several players and coaches. Krabbenhoft then came over in the middle of the scrum and exchanged words with Howard, and Howard then reached out and struck Krabbenhoft's face.

The incident continued to elevate, with players pushing and shoving. Three players have been suspended after appearing to throw punches during the melee.

But to do away with one of college basketball's traditions because of one incident would be a mistake, Izzo said.

"That's not happening here," Izzo said. "So if some team doesn't want to shake hands, you're going to see 15 of my guys walk down and shake air. We're going to shake air and I'm going to shake air and then we're going to leave."

End of that game was fun too.

Big East Basketball is awesome again. Pitt was one of R.J.'s final schools from which to choose. I sure can't blame him for picking UConn.

Said this before but Vandy's arena is so strange, always has been. Weird to have the crowd so far removed from the action.

Only the elevated crippler at Minnesota sucks worse. And maybe Oregon's too just because it looks like a sewer main broke.

The strangest thing is having the benches at the end of court. That will never stop being bizarre.

I hate they changed out the goals from the double post to standard Hydra-Rib goals.

I just can’t see any way the Buckeyes beat the Illini tonight. Third game in six days. After an embarrassing loss to Iowa at home on Saturday, they gave up a lead to IU and had to fight back to win at home on Monday. Now they’re going on the road to Champaign. I doubt they have enough gas in the tank and there seems to be a subliminal message in the local media that no one really cares if they lose this game. It’s practically expected.

Just saw that Danny Manning is the interim HC at Maryland. I did not know that. Glad they just beat State Pen.

Yep, but they’re looking around for Turgeon’s full time replacement.  Andy Enfield’s name is most frequently mentioned.

Always forget Maryland is in the B10.

They fucked up.  Delusions of football grandeur … they should have admitted basketball is where they’re at (men and women) and stayed in the ACC.  Nobody ever went to football games, now no one goes to basketball, either.

SMU can smell the tourney. 53 in kenpom, 45 in NET. We have @UH, and Cincy and Tulane at home left. Win 2/3 and win at least one in the AAC tourney and we should sneak in. Not dropping a winnable game @Temple would have been nice.

Unfortunately the Ponies lost standout freshman Zurich Phelps likely for the season last night.

TCU also on the bubble. Them losing out would help.

Before tonight can't remember the last time Gonzaga was laying <10 in a WCC game. May be more recent than I think.

First time in awhile the WCC has more than one, maybe 2, tourney level teams.  Zags, St Mary's, USF, and maybe the Mormons.

Not sure about having Nova as a 3 in Philly, doesn’t seem right.  And they’d miss a golden opportunity to have Duke/UK in that Region in hopes to relive ‘92 all over again.
