Adjustments - in play, halftime, game week, season...

I'm probably missing stuff that is obvious to all, but I am not seeing a whole lot of adjustments this season. As in the title, not during games, not at halftimes, not in game-week practices, not much for the season itself. It seems like we've been out-adjusted at damn near every halftime.

Of course, that may be because I'm taking crazy pills, but that answer doesn't really insist upon itself.

Where are our adjustments? Even simple ones like "Casey's right thumb is torn up, he's having a really hard time throwing at all, much less with anu accuracy. Maybe the backup QB should be playing... at least a few passes here and there."

I think we are doing different things every week.  I'm not seeing much at halftime or during the game.

What adjustments are you looking for?

We've tightened up the rotation offensively, we've moved away from inside zone, tried to execute screens to help the OL, kept more blockers in, etc. Seems like they're still looking for what these guys can do consistently other than outside zone runs.

Defensively, they've balanced out the front a bit, but they probably need to tighten up the rotation along the defensive front. Ojomo/Collins playing at 60% is better than some of our other guys playing at 100%. Right now, multiple liabilities are getting consistent PT and I don't know why. Foster should probably see his snaps decrease, Brock the same, Bush the same, Schooler yikes, Broughton yikes, Je. Thompson yikes. How fucking bad must Marques Caldwell/Chris Adimora be? JFC. I imagine Adimora is gone with his lack of run.

They could also blitz more, but these guys need to be able to consistently execute the base defense late in games and make consistent tackles when they have the opportunity. They do it well enough before the 4th quarter, so it feels like a conditioning issue. They also need to blow up blockers if they don't get there in time to bypass them. Dancing around them is a losing proposition.

I can see them trying, but it feels like the problems we have won't be fixed midseason. They're going to scratch and claw to somewhere between 6-6 to 8-4. If they're doing this same dance next year, then I imagine we'll see some shuffling happen amongst the coaches.

Manning on halftime adjustments

starts at the 7 minute mark

well that didnt work. Best of Peyton & Eli Manning on Monday Night Football on you tube if you want to look at it

For those who don't want to look it up, Peyton and Eli both said there really aren't "halftime adjustments" in football. By the time the team gets into the locker room, the coaches get down from the coaching box and everyone is settled, it's almost time to go back out.

I remember seeing on twitter where a former NFL player said the majority of halftime is 80 players waiting in line to use the urinals.

NFL is a different animal. Halftime is toughly twice as long in college. Ain’t much time for adjustments.

In game tweaks n such should be occurring. Well unless there’s lot of 3 and outs happening. Then there ain’t no time for much there.

I think halftime in the NFL is 12 minutes and in college it's 18 or 20. I agree though that there should be more in-game tweaks than halftime adjustments. Halftime is really just meant to be a quick break and to catch your breath. Especially considering that the first 10 minutes or so of halftime is probably only the coaches meeting with each other to discuss what quick changes they want, and then they quickly go meet with their position group and by that point there's only 5 or 6 minutes left and you have to get ready to run back on the field.

Peyton and Eli are full of shit. In the NFL, that may largely be the case, but coaches make adjustments based on what is and isn't working at halftime all the time. They talk about the success of the gameplan between series and figure out what adjustments need to be made, then the staff talks about those at the beginning of halftime before telling their players what they're going to do differently. I should say...most coaches make adjustments at halftime.

Now, it would surprise most people to know how often coaches go into a game with one gameplan based on scouting, and if that is a failure, they have no backup plan.

On offense at this point, it’s not really adjustments, but we are not exhausting all our resources.

For one, Brewer and Wiley share 10 catches, 3 of which were TDs. There haven’t been many incompletions their way. Usage outside the red zone is virtually non-existent. 78 yards for the year. The OSU TE/HB/FB got 30 yards just last week on two easy throws. Roschon has 6 catches to add to that mix.

Wildcat. Haven’t seen it lately.

Jet sweeps. Not much the last two weeks.

QB run game. Think we actually did it in some form about twice last week. But that 3rd and 2 last week with the end crashing. Perfect time to pull it and walk around the end for a first. Instead we expect Brewer to come across the formation and get the end before he’s in Bijans face. Dumb.

Any of that could slow the defense down a step. And much of it is more about catching the defense off guard than blowing them off the ball. When we start falling apart, we just need to get a first down. Simple stuff that could get us 5-7 yards on 1st.

Your TEs, Roschon, Keilan (when healthy) are all underutilized all weapons. There’s probably a use for Dixon at or around the LOS too.

Quick look shows the NFL is 12 minutes. Every time I’ve noticed the halftime clock at our games it’s 20 minutes.

In high school halftimes are long enough to install an entirely different offense and get a few practices in. Feels like they’re 3 or 4 hours long. Damn bands have too much power.

With this I agree. It was quite some time between my youth and watching high school games again. I was amazed at how long halftimes have become. And in blow outs, it’s misery staying for any part of the 2nd half because you’re beat down by halftime events.

Yeah, we’ll…you ‘love’ everything about high school football right?
