Beautiful film. Stunning b&w with amazing shot composition that brings you into the small street the protestant family shared with catholics at the start of the Troubles in '69.

 

It's apparently a damn near autobiography of Kenneth Branagh's childhood at that time. It's actually surprisingly light on the what's and how's of the time, instead focusing on 3 generations trying to decide where they fit in a changing world.

 

Well worth seeing.

This was such a beautiful movie. Ciaran Hinds was superb in his role as the grandfather and he should’ve won every single award for best supporting actor during awards season. He is in a lot of shows on the BBC and whatnot so I enjoy the work he does. I watched this when it was in the theatre and I loved it then and will highly suggest this as a movie to watch for anyone. That it was done in black and white added to how good this film was.
