Was out of pocket for a few days, but noticed a couple of things...

1. Went to the Capitol on Friday. Flags were no longer at half staff... less than one week after Allen. T&P, whatever. People get shot, people die, life goes on. Well, not for those people.

2. There was a fucking PGA Tour event less than four fucking miles from where nine people were murdered just days after the shooting. Not only do politicians not give a fuck, neither does anyone else. Crowds were bigger than any sort of demonstration against gun violence.

If it's not happening directly to you, then it's just pictures on a TV. May as well be happening in Timbuktu. People are numb.

This is why I got all ragey when listening to those Collin County residents who bussed to Austin to protest gun violence. One woman angrily declared “this is in our backyards now, so something must be done.” Their state Senator, Angela Paxton wouldn’t meet with them. She was too busy voting.

Here’s an idea. Stop voting for Republicans.

Nothing stops a good guy in an apron like a 12-year-old with an AR-15.

However, I won't know whether to grieve this or not until I know the immigration status of the shooter and Angel Gomez.

Was it an AR-15 or a JR-15?

Fuck.

Man with passengers including a 12-year-old gets out of his vehicle and urinates so openly that it's spotted from inside the Sonic. Told to stop, he starts a fight. This man has been driving around with a loaded AR-15 in his vehicle.

Evidently the fight isn't going well for the pisser, so the 12-year-old knows exactly what to do. It's what he's always wanted to do. Be the hero with the gun settling the issue the American way. Deal death.

What in the world?

This is a profoundly sick place.

Well hey now, wherever could a child get an idea that a gun is the ideal tool to solve a problem?? Maybe fatty could elucidate it for us

Gun violence has surged ahead of the opioid crisis as Americans' top public health concern, according to the latest edition of the Axios-Ipsos American Health Index.

Why it matters: A spate of recent mass shootings may have focused attention on the issue in ways that weren't apparent in our last poll in February.

What they found: 26% of respondents said "access to guns or firearms" is the No. 1 threat to American public health, up from 17% in February.

Quote

25% said the biggest threat is opioids and fentanyl, virtually unchanged since the last poll.

20% said obesity, also almost unchanged.

COVID-19 slipped to the bottom of public health threats at 3%, tied with smoking, alcohol abuse and unsafe driving.

Quote

Between the lines: Other recent polling has shown an uptick of concern about gun violence, especially in schools.

A KFF survey found 1 in 5 U.S. adults said they've personally been threatened with a gun, and 1 in 6 have personally witnessed someone being shot.

There's been an increased push to portray gun violence as a public health issue, with experts factoring employer costs, insurance claims, mental health counseling and other variables.

Former GOP Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist wrote earlier this month that "deaths from firearms has grown into an official public health crisis" and called for a "fresh look" at what should be done about it.

Those fucking twitter replies, I got through about 10 before I almost cried.  "he should be applauded for protecting his neighborhood from crime" over and over again.

Any good guy with a gun looking to fight crime can easily find a hundred hot spots within a few mile radius.  But this guy picks an elementary school  bus stop---you know those places where 8 year olds be slinging dope and boostin' cars.

But we left some tanks in Afghanistan, that's why the rest of world thinks we're weird as fuck.

It will never happen, but I would be all for a law making concealed or open carry illegal within something like 200 yards of a school.

Would guess that the bus stop is more than something like 200 yards from the school.  (Doesn't make it any better, that incel needs some tang.)

It’s not like you could make special rules that prohibit certain activity near a school

That is just crazy talk

Um, 2x the distance of the rifle should be the radius.

Well, to be fair, a lot of those who refuse to do anything to stop the carnage went to church today. So, there’s that.

Remember these truths:

Your GQP leadership worships guns, particularly ARs, as a god.
Your GQP leadership worships law enforcement as gods among men (back the blue!)
Your GQP leadership CLAIMS, more loudly than any other group, to be all about “protecting our children.”
Yet they have done less than nothing to address the very things above that they worship as gods, and that are responsible for literal stacks of dead children.

Your GQP leadership is psychopathic evil liars. They should all burn in hell. But only after watching the same fate befall THEIR children as they are happy to lay upon OUR children. There is no fate in this universe horrible enough for our GQP leadership. Imagine the worst hell you can, then triple it. It’s still not enough.

Yeah, we all know by now. The problem is 35 to 40% of the country just don't want to change it. They are embracing the insanity.

We are stuck at a point where they are going to hold us hostage. They've wrapped up their identity and self worth in these dumb fights. They're radical terrorists.

The only way to change it would be to kill them. The 65% would have to arm themselves to the teeth and declare civil war on the 35%. But doing so would grind the operation of the entire country to a halt and effectively end the United States as any sort of functioning country. Food distribution would grind to a halt and people would start to starve. Since we aren't going to take it to that level then there's absolutely nothing we can do about it except continuing to complain and wish that the United States wasn't full of selfish, disingenuous pieces of shit like that fattie cunt.

These mass shootings are so common that this one, in Utah back in January, didn't even warrant mentioning in this thread at the time:

https://nypost.com/2023/01/16/obit-praises-utah-dad-michael-haight-who-killed-wife-5-kids/

TLDR:  Utah man kills his wife, mother-in-law, and five kids before shooting himself. Obituary doesn't mention, you know, that, but instead talks about how he was leader in everything he did, an Eagle Scout etc...  Family later releases statement in favor of gun rights  and starts a GoFundMe with a photo that shows Jesus standing with the family in place of the murderer.

From that article:

Quote

Tausha’s sister-in-law, Jennie Earl, told the Associated Press that Michael had removed all guns from the home before the shootings.

She said the lack of access to firearms left Tausha Haight, her mother and her children more “vulnerable.”

Well, apparently not all of the guns ...

Meh. Some douche wants to call me a disingenuous pos cunt, he can have a nice reminder that at best we equal each other out. And let’s be honest, if he lives in TX, his vote doesn’t even count as much.  So, in short, fuck him.  I hope he thinks everyday about how awesome Texas is, and spends his time hoping we are turning purple, and that maybe someday, he’ll get to enjoy Texas, too.  And during that time, I’ll continue cancelling that purple vote right the fuck out.

We know, and you'll vote for people that further disenfranchise minorities and women. Your vote does count more because they will make sure opposing votes are not cast or are thrown out.
