“Because of the schedule, A&M is one of the few teams in the country that could withstand a loss - or even possibly two - and still have a legitimate shot at the College Football Playoff. “

Hahhaha. These losers are always so focused on, well, losing. You will never hear an aggy brag about WINS, except that one time they beat bama.

It's so stupid anyway. Vegas doesn't try to predict anything, they try to generate the most action on both sides of the bet. It doesn't mean they think A&M has a one-in-forty chance of winning the national title. It means they're willing to risk paying out $40 for every dollar spent by someone betting on A&M to do it, because it's a long shot but making it eight hundred billion to one is a tad excessive. And making it 1:1 or 2:1 wouldn't encourage enough betting on it. It's not "VEGAS THINKS WE GOTS A GREAT CHANCE TO WIN IT" it's "VEGAS KNOW THERE'S LOTSA CHUCKLEHEADS THAT'LL BET ON US AT 40:1".

I bet A&M has been about a 40:1 preseason NC payout a dozen times this century.

It really is a sight to behold. You throw a stat out like that and the replies are, "nice try sip, track is bigger than baseball!" or " Haha, take a look at this innocuous poll nobody paid attention to from the 80's. Suck it sip!"

I wonder how many people on the twitters think they're Texas fans trolling. I mean, unless you've never met aggy, how could you not?

Referring back to the discussion of final top 4 rankings in the main 3 sports, since my research is apparently being referenced all over the internet without getting credit today (this and the Texas 247 recruit rankings chart), the criteria were top 4 in the final AP poll or top 4 in the final coaches poll through the 2013 season. Starting with the college football playoff, of course, reaching that is the criterion.

Despite what Aggies would like you to believe, Top 4 was selected so football was on even footing with basketball and baseball, which have both obviously used postseason tournaments for decades. The Final Four was used for basketball and CWS semifinals was used for baseball (or being one of the last 4 teams back in the double elimination days).

Here is the list of most Top/Final Fours in Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Hockey:

Hockey was added because in fairness lots of northern and midwestern schools consider that their third sport instead of baseball. St. Joe's is included at the bottom because they reached a final four but it was vacated by penalty.

Our domination of State of Texas elite collegiate athletics teams in these sports is nearly unique. Here are the states with multiple schools, I've included Texas again so it's all in one spot. Warning, major data longcat ahead. The basic summary is that the only other schools showing such in-state dominance are Ohio State and LSU. Pretty much everyone would consider those two to be the only actual major college sports programs in their respective states. Hmm. Our in-state dominance over other schools is absolutely unique for places with multiple P5 schools, with Alabama and maybe Indiana being somewhat close, or at least in the same zip code. My other takeaway is that Virginia and Washington should be embarrassed.
