What’s this about all federal criminal charges against the aggy ex-CEO of Blue Bell being dropped?

(Pet peeve - "federal felony")

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A judge has dismissed federal felony charges against the former CEO of a Texas ice cream company in a case arising from a 2015 listeria outbreak that killed three people.

U.S. District Judge Robert Pitman of Austin dropped the case Wednesday against former Blue Bell Creameries CEO Paul Kruse because federal prosecutors did not seek an indictment from a grand jury and Kruse’s attorneys said he never waived his right to a grand jury indictment.

Prosecutors said they bypassed the grand jury and charged Kruse by information because the coronavirus pandemic made it unsafe for jurors to meet.

Why is that a pet peeve?  There are federal misdemeanors.

This would seem to be getting close to the statute of limitations, so the prosecutors had better get moving.

In January of that year we had the Challenger explosion, pretty much every nation sent their condolences. Even nations we were not on the best terms with. Not the good old USSR, they put out a statement saying "this is what happens when you turn Capitalists loose with technology". Really stuck in my craw. So, a few months later in April they have Chernobyl.. well ha ha freaking ha Ivan, looks like Communist/Socialist/Totalitarian pricks have worse tech problems than Capitalism. At the time I had no pity for them. But the reality of it was that a a lot of innocent people suffered, that is the real shame. I don't think even Aggy is so screwed up.

That was a great watch, and maybe you were thinking of Aggy because of the look of the buildings?

There isn’t a statute of limitations when it comes to Homicide.

Can anyone remember the last time a reporter specified a homicide charge was a misdemeanor? There is also such a thing as misdemeanor murder, but delving into that is a rabbit hole that would distract from the underlying story.

Whether the charges were misdemeanor or felony federal charges, specifying "federal felony" in the lede is just one of those things that strikes me as annoying (putting it kindly).

The story was that the feds are being painted as having screwed up and the guy dodged his first bullet in the process of this working its way through the system.

To me, "federal felony" is akin to using "singularly unique."

If I was benevolent dictator of the world, using either term in interstate commerce would be a federal misdemeanor.

as long as they don't have to do something complex like connect the sewer lines correctly I'm sure it will be fine

Texas A&M University has discovered a sewage leak on campus that apparently began in 2017, university officials announced Wednesday.

A sanitary sewer line from Whitely Hall had been improperly connected to a storm drain after renovations were completed in August, according to a statement released by the university.

The university said an estimated 1.18 million gallons of sanitary sewer effluent flowed into detention ponds on the campus golf course and into Wolf Pen Creek over the course of eight months.

Ever notice, in whatever malfeasance aggy is involved in, aggy, in almost every situation fucks it up and just walks away like nothing ever happened....and then requests more money.....and usually gets it...with no questions asked?  WTF?

That's what happens when people are dumb enough to elect aggy.

What is troublesome to educated individuals is that the approach aggys take to choosing elected representatives is the same they take to choosing car dealers, lawn service crews, tax accountants, dentists and heart surgeons. Professional competency is a non-consideration in aggy culture. Which explains why so many incompetent aggys survive in the business world with either horrific skill sets or while executing deeply flawed business models that survive only by heavily relying on government handouts (ie; the aggy vaccine lab, Texags.com, or TAMU itself).

This highlights one aspect of how the best interests of the people of Texas are compromised by Texas A&M and aggy culture. Terribly inefficient business and utterly incompetent individuals consume valuable collective resources that would FAR better serve the people if they were re-directed toward productive pursuits. But, for a number of reasons, incompetent aggys are elected to public office and stain the business landscape with their bullshit businesses. These politicians and aggy business don't benefit the people of Texas, they weigh the state down. There is no "Texas exceptionalism" within aggy culture.

If you doubt me, look how bereft the Bryan/ College Station area is of intellectual capital or economic vibrancy. The entire economy of that region is completely dependent on the state government allocating resources to maintain Texas A&M University. Without Texas A&M, the B/CS area would be a topographical and economic shithole. With TAMU, the B/CS region is a topographical and economic shithole with a huge pot of government welfare keeping it afloat.

Hence, the frustrating conclusion that the people of Texas deserve better than Texas A&M.

Not sure if serious....

Yes, this is exactly what they do. They refer to it as the "aggie network" and all it basically means is that you always, ONLY hire aggies, no matter the talent or fit of other applicants.

there's no way to offer specifics without CRing it, but let's just say there have been statewide elections where the Aggie candidate was by far the lesser of the two evils

True, but to reach that conclusion, one would have to evaluate the merits of voting for the various candidates and arrive at a reasoned conclusion.

Which is the antithesis of that which is aggy.

It is very common in the aggy culture to make the primary voting consideration whether or not the candidate attended the agricultural branch college of The University of Texas.

Followed closely by, of course, whether or not the candidate was a) white, b) male, and c) of pure Aryan blood.

In the game of checkers between its racist history/alumni and academic integrity currently gripping Texas A&M University, John Sharp has just blown his pro-Sul Ross dog whistle. All the fat, racist redneck aggys are bleating loudly about "not another dime" if the aggy shrine to their "gallant negro killer" is touched. Sharp is asking the "faithful" to opine on their willingness to donate munificently to aggy athletics in these times of great need.

Sharp pandering to racist alumni should have been expected by anyone watching this unfold. If I was advising the anti-Ross contingent, I would make clear threats of withholding donations in order to maintain their despicable shrine are meaningless and that if it meant shutting down the entire athletics department, TAMU finally being on the right side of racial history is far more important that any thirty pieces of silver from a racist alumnus.

We will see what will happen, but so far both sides are continuing to dig their heels in. Stay tuned. This could be really interesting.

Football season or no, A&M needs donor dollars

July 21, 2020 Updated: July 21, 2020 8:34 p.m.

COLLEGE STATION — Texas A&M athletic director Ross Bjork will keep a close eye on the Astros, Rangers and all 28 other Major League Baseball teams in the coming days and weeks.

Not only because Bjork is a baseball fan, but because MLB’s early results, along with the scheduled starts of NFL training camps this month, might help determine the immediate future of A&M’s most prominent sport.

“We need a little more time and a little more data,” Bjork said Tuesday of any final decisions on whether fall college football will be played during the COVID-19 pandemic. “I also think we need society’s permission. Meaning, what happens when baseball starts on Thursday? What happens when NFL camps start and we have those visuals of players playing games and practicing and with some baseball fans in the stands at some ballparks?

“Will society start to say, ‘We can get used to this; there’s a safe way to do this — as safe as possible?’”

With August fast approaching, more questions than answers remain on whether college football will be played this fall. Along the way Travis Dabney hopes to clear up what he considers at least one fallacy concerning the Aggies’ overall finances.

Dabney, president of A&M sports’ fundraising arm the 12th Man Foundation, certainly appreciates the Aggies’ lofty perch among money-raising athletic programs, but the pandemic has amplified the foundation’s apprehensions as the summer presses on.

“The thing I would want donors to know more than anything is there are a lot of misconceptions out there about how athletic departments are funded,” Dabney said Tuesday. “There’s always this information out there about, ‘Look at Texas A&M, one of the top five most profitable athletic departments in the country.’ The reality is … at the end of the day, we have expenditures here pretty closely matching up with our revenues.

“We need our season ticket holders (and) we need our donors who help fund $65 million of a $150 million (annual) budget to be with us.”

Sticking with A&M in late July and perhaps well into August, Dabney added, means season ticket holders and donors not rushing to any decisions with college football’s immediate future undecided.

“I’m asking our season ticket holders to wait with us,” said Dabney, a former student who added that he proudly recognizes A&M donors to be among the most loyal and giving in the country. “Let’s get some clarity, and let’s understand our situation. Right now there are people who could potentially make decisions without complete information.”

The five athletic departments that generated the most revenue for the 2018-19 school year were Texas ($223,879,781), Texas A&M ($212,748,002) Ohio State ($210,548,239), Michigan ($197,820,410) and Georgia ($174,042,482), according to a USA Today database.

Last week, Southeastern Conference commissioner Greg Sankey said after meeting with the league’s 14 athletic directors that the SEC would wait until the end of the month to make any further decisions on fall football, a move that pleased Bjork after the Big Ten and Pac-12 already opted for conference-only schedules.

“I believe we still have some time, ‘some’ being the key word,” Bjork said. “We know the clock is ticking. … We have to do everything we can to make it as safe as possible, and as I sit here today, we need a few more data points. We need our communities to trend in a better direction in terms of total number of cases, hospitalizations … we need some good data within our communities.

“We haven’t started a full-fledged (football) practice yet, so we don’t know exactly what is going to happen when we start engaging in contact practices. … What happens when we start bringing back college students to College Station? We still need time to make a final decision. Does that mean we may delay the season? Perhaps that’s an opportunity.”

Bjork, who just wrapped up his first year at A&M, is optimistic delaying the season a few weeks or into the winter will be a secondary scenario still enabling a (mostly) full season. As of today, per Gov. Greg Abbott’s directive, Kyle Field would be at 50 percent capacity Sept. 5 for Texas A&M’s opener against Abilene Christian.

If those optimistic plans of starting on time or even delaying the start of the season fall through, A&M, like most Power Five athletic departments nationwide, will turn to Plan C-note: Rely on loyal donors to keep the department afloat sliding into 2021.

“If we’re not playing college football or we don’t have fans in the stands or either one of those, it’s a devastating, dramatic impact on our operating budget,” Bjork said. “We’re not subsidized by the university — we’re 100 percent self-sustaining. If there are no fall sports, there is no magic formula for making up that revenue.

“That’s when we’ll go on a campaign to ask people to support the athletic department during this unprecedented, most difficult time. We would ask people to maintain any sort of giving, ask people to donate perhaps the value of their season tickets that they’ve already paid. We would ask people to support the athletic department to ensure we can get through this.”

There are entire companies made up almost exclusively of aggy in all the money positions, and when its not an aggy it will be someone from an out of state (usually Big10, ACC or Pac school, no Big12 or even SECSEC) in the name of "diversity". Why wouldnt they hire someone who went to a Big12 or SEC school..or even another in state school? Someone from those schools are more likely to know about the Collie Station cult and be biased against it..

The one thing they have in common is they all located in Austin citing the city's close proximity to the enormous base of intellectual capital centered around College Station, Texas.
