Holy shit. My wife and I were driving by there on Tuesday and saw 5-6 police cars in the parking lot with their lights flashing. We were wondering what it was.

Remember a year or two ago they had the WR go missing and then hack someone up. But you know win at any cost. What’s a few lives?

Everyone thought Clemson would destroy aggy

not if you were paying attention

Clemson will do the bare minimum to get out of there with a win. No sense leaving high value players in there to slip and slide around and tweak a hamstring while ahead three touchdowns.

Before the forecast was Biblical rain, I said Clemson would win 38-34. It's hard to imagine a shootout in a downpour, but I still think A&M covers. They're not devoid of talent and they'll shoot their 2018 wad tonight while Clemson will be eager to just get back on the plane and get out of there.

I have a vendor (t-shirt ag who went to SWT) who always is inviting me to go to games with him. I always turn him down.

"Seriously, it's the best atmosphere on college football. You have to go at least one time."

"No it's not and no I don't."

yeah cause Aggie fans have traveled to so many great college football atmospheres against which to compare

I have been to an A&M game. It was alright but I was not blown away or anything. I even went to yell practice the night before. It was a little fun and a lot weird but not this mind blowing experience.

Like most things with A&M it is mostly hype I think. I mean I guess if I was an A&M alumni it would be this magical thing but it did not do much for me as a non-fan of both schools playing.

In the SEC, they've been to Bama, Auburn, LSU, and Ole MIss (which isn't a great in-game environment per se but has great tailgating). They went to Florida once in the midst of a severe, prolonged down spell in Florida football. They haven't traveled to Georgia or Tennessee yet.

What else? A&M hasn't played (at) Michigan since 1977, Notre Dame since 2000 (in the fourth year of a prolonged slump), Ohio State since 1970, Penn State since 1979 (and Penn State's home environment has improved drastically over the past 15 years). They haven't played at USC since 1964 or Washington since 1989, and they've never played at Oregon or played in an actual Rose Bowl. They did play a little over half a game at the Rose Bowl stadium against UCLA, which has never been accused of having an interesting home presence.

How will Texas do this weekend against usc?

A lot less obvious than Aggy-Clemson. I thought Aggy-NWSt, Aggy-CLemson, and Texas-Maryland were all obvious. Texas-Tulsa, I was way off on-- I expected us to win that one by 35+. So I'm a blind squirrel more than anything else, but I never had a doubt A&M would lose by less than a TD to Clemson.

I guess what I would say on Texas-SC is that I fear both teams are as bad as they've looked thus far. It might be a repeat of 2016 Texas-Notre Dame (edit, in that regard, both teams are worse than expected, not meaning it will be a 50-47 shootout). USC's offense was so bad against Stanford that it's hard to imagine them going on the road and putting up a big enough number to beat an average offensive output (around 28 points). I think that Texas controlling its turnovers is the biggest factor in the game. If we'd held onto the ball against Maryland, we likely would have won by 10+. Assuming the second half wet fart against Tulsa was just a stretch of bad football and not our best effort, I'll say Texas 23, USC 20, on a last-second field goal, but no one walks away happy from this one. We're going to look like garbage again and so will USC.

The difference was that Texas and Notre Dame played on national TV on Sunday night and it was the first game of the season (and was very exciting, especially given that the Horns were destroyed the year before). Both teams have already shit the bed this year. No one is going to say the winner of this game is back and going to the playoffs.

Would anyone be surprised to learn that all of the aggie fan fiction stories about college station and aggie fans were penned by John Sharp himself? Or, a paid member of the aggie institution?

It could literally be any aggy. It's a turdition, and it's no doubt taught at fish camp.

Now that I think about it, they should consider having a camp for students about to graduate. Call it "Normal People Camp" and teach aggies entering the real world how to be normal. It's a novel idea.

Holy shit at the dead wife and the son (with no apparent connection to Clemson) wanting aggyland as his senior trip.  They really have no self awareness about how transparently fake those stories are to the reader.  The OSU board gets an "awesome fans" post every now and then from visitors, but they appear to be genuine.  First, our fanbase is actually pretty cool and the stories are never over-the-top, but usually "I was greeted and given a beer at a tailgate" and "awesome tailgating scene" which I've seen often with my own eyes.  Second, our fanbase has no delusions of grandeur about where we are in the pecking order of college football and have no need to stroke off to penthouse aggy porn to make up for penis envy.  These clowns are fucking ridiculous.

Work (finance) with a decent number of McCombs/Mays graduates over the years.  Singular Ag's are fine.  Great even.  We lease to two Ag's @ our ranch.  Neighbors are ags.  All great.  It's when they start to cluster.  When the tribalism creeps back in.  Shits starts to get a little sideways.  Maybe it's a sense of security in numbers, but when they gather the "aggy" comes out.  Weddings are the worst.  JFC.  Been to too many of those (Wife's family "split" between the Austin and CS factions).

Someone hit me with a PM and was asking about UT system finances. I pulled the latest financials filed in connection with the outstanding debt of each system, not just the flagship campuses.

TAMU has total assets (buildings, real estate, etc) of $14.0B and total liabilities of $7.8B. The net worth of all assets of the TAMU system is $6.13B

The UT System has $72.3B in total assets, $17.3B in total liabilities. The net worth of the assets of the UT System is $44.8B.

Now do you see why I keep saying the two organizations are not comparable?

Lots and lots of takes on the game, "the fumble call", QB rotation, etc. Thought some might find my first experience in Aggie-land interesting.

I am a Widower as my wife of 20 years passed away a few years back at 44 years of age from Lung Cancer having never smoked a day in her life. That experience and raising my two kids solo these last few years, has really given me some perspective on what is important and not so important at least as far as my life is concerned. It also makes the concept of building memories very valuable to me, so when my 18 year old son approached me last week and suggested a memorable trip for his Senior Year in High School would be an A&M trip, I was all about it. We quickly convinced a Clemson classmate to join us and made plans for a long weekend road trip. We left Friday around noon and made it to Shrevport around 2:00AM Saturday morning. We got a decent sleep and headed to College Station the next morning arriving around 1:00. We parked on the outskirts of campus by the polo fields and headed down to the Dixie Chicken and then over towards the stadium for the afternoon before the game started. Several things were noteworthy.

1) There is a room I believe was called the "Flag Room". It was in the student center and had 4 or 5 large TVs and lots of sofas/chairs/floor space and there must have been 100-200 folks in Orange and Maroon watching the USC-UGA game and avoiding the mid-day heat outside. It was a great setup and the perfect way for us to watch the "other" important game that day. Lots of nice folks in there - even one gentleman and his wife who offered us their seats. We declined, but the sentiment was indicative of the treatment we would get the rest of the day. These folks are serious about being respectful and classy.

2) The parade before the game. Right before game time, we lined the streets around the stadium to watch the parade of the cadets make their way to Kyle Field. It was astounding how many there were! After the band marched through to lead the processional, the waves of cadets kept coming and coming and coming! It finally ended when the mounted cadets on their horses and the Howitzer for the game pulled by a mule team made their way down the street on the way to the stadium.

3) The stadium was very impressive! We were in the upper deck of the End Zone where Tee scored his touchdown across from where our band was located. If I did not know the capacity, I would have guessed it was even larger than 105,000. I guess it was the way it completely surrounded the field that made it look so much larger than I envisioned beforehand. With all of the stadium lights flashing, energized fans, the towels waving frantically, and no place for the noise to escape, it is easy to see how the players could get easily get distracted and intimidated. No doubt about it - it was rocking Saturday night! Even up by 15 points a couple of times, you could feel the crowds energy and knew the game wasn't out of reach. That thought obviously turned out to be prophetic.

4) Band - I'm not much of a band guy, but the size and precision of the band was something to see. From the upper deck where you could see the formations unfolding as the members marched in all sorts of directions, I thought for certain there would be collisions or errors in all of the coordinated movements. It was flawless with straight lines and changing shapes that must take incredible effort to organize and pull off. It was a great show and worth staying in my seat at halftime to witness it.

5) The Aggie War Hymn - I think that is what it was called at the start of the 4th quarter had the whole stadium energized and engaged. If you are an A&M person, I could see how that would put a lump in your throat each time that song was played. Even as a visitor it was easy to get into it.

6 - The Smoke ring from the Howitzer - Someone posted a picture of that earlier today. After one of the scores and firing the round, that smoke ring floating across the field was pretty cool.

7 Finally and most important the Aggie People.... There was an announcement before the game reminding the A&M fans about class and respect for your opponent. I was blown away at how universal this sentiment was taken to heart by everyone we encountered all day - I mean EVERYONE. We sat in the middle of an Aggie section. We had been elbow to elbow with folks decked out in Maroon all day. Even making our way down the crowded walkways from the upper deck after a tightly contested game with controversial calls that frustrated the home team, I did not hear a single derogatory word. Not one - literally all day. Closest we even came was a car that drove by us walking to the stadium and the students yelled something like "Gig-em Aggies" or something like that. I was stunned to be honest. Much more often we heard "Welcome to Aggie-land" or "Hope you have a safe drive home" and never a murmur of anything condescending or hostile. We all love college football and want our team to win. We all get fired up and heated up when things don't go our way. These folks get it though. Maybe it is just my personal history with tragedy these last few years, but these Aggie folks see things the right way with the right perspective. They fought hard and that stadium was as raucous as you can imagine, but when the game was over we had nothing but pats on the backs, handshakes and well wishes. I just had to write this post to tip my cap Aggie fans, students and Alumni. You may have come up a few points short on the scoreboard Saturday night, but you sure won me over. What a classy, classy bunch that I have nothing but respect and admiration for based on the experience we had last Saturday. I hope it won't be my last trip to A&M, and for those of you that make the trip over next year, I hope you experience the same level of Southern hospitality, respect and sportsmanship we received in spades Saturday evening. My son, my buddy and I had an absolute ball!

Best of luck the rest of the way Aggie friends. This is one guy from South Carolina who will be rooting for you along the way.

Blessings.
Chip

This encapsulates aggy to a T. If there's one in the group, they act pretty normal for the most part. Once two or more find out they are both aggy, then that's all you'll ever here about.

I know you’ve probably broken you arm or dislocated your shoulder patting yourself on the back. Hell you might have even messed up a disc in your neck trying to suck your own dick. But don’t get it twisted. The only thing you got correct about the aggy-Clemson game was it not being a blow out. Clemson didn’t sit all their good players to keep them healthy. They had them in the whole game.

Honestly, its better than its ever been.  With them Blinn-teaming all the SWT/Texas state girls and UT making it harder to get in, there is more talent on campus than ever before.

There are still way too many ugly 20 year olds for 50k students.  But far better than it was in the 80s.

Image result for quadding tamu

From the aggy corps of cadets, this practice is known as 'quadding".  Guys strip down another guy, spread-eagle him, and pour water on his genitals.

I thought for sure you were making this up, so I searched.  Sure enough, from a texags reply to the topic "Tell me your Red Ass Corps Stories" comes mention of it.

What's sad is, the fact that quadding real isn't as scary as the fact that this entire post is real, and that someone thought posting it would be impressive.

Can we please just send this post to every aggy recruit and remind them that these are the people they're planning to spend their college years with? Holy shit, what a weird bunch they are.

Not sure about red-ass but fond memories now - Friday you got there off to the MPC for uniforms & a hair cut in the basement of the "C" (school started on Monday), your first yell practice on the quad that night, first outfit beer bust-yes young-uns the upper classmen would take you out and drink, cold beer & bad pizza at Sparkys, Youngblood's on Sunday nights, Mom's Cafe down in Bryan, Dead, Solid, Perfect for the best hamburgers around, meal hounding-never saw blood vessels in my meat until I ate at Duncan, first week one fish bud afraid to go into the hall so he crapped in a shoebox & peed in the sink, Midnight Yell, Christmas Party with grode flicks-we may all be going to Hell for those, steam shower crap outs, afternoon come-bys, an outfit run when a fish bud messed in his pants, Class sets, Quadding-"someone find me the F-ing head waiter I'm tried of eating this s...t, someone has to pay", we never did get Jim Bob Mickler to the quad - Jody was not as much trouble - Wing Commander O'Connor was load too, Comet cleanser bombs (Babo/Draino too) BONFIRE-carrying logs as underclassman & working pulley crews, city boys trying to dip for the first time and watching them turn green & puke, cutting as an upperclassman, ****** outs when the p-head guessed totally wrong & trying not to buzz, fish class stealing all the CO's stuff right down to the monster, piss the BQ's off & they'd change the cadence on you as you passed the review stand, flag detail & my 'ol Lady put the Texas Flag upside down..."FRESHMAN COME BY!", one of our Butt buddies letting his date wear a midnight to a dance before the Waggies had midnights. It only cost a weekend. Throwing the Houston Post to make a little money, Silver Taps, Muster, Guard duty, Edge dressing, boot bands, brasso...

"there is a fine line between red ass and dumb ass fish Jones"

"Highway 6 runs both ways"...and they meant it.

This was well said..."As far as the rivalry, we were always giving each other grief, sort of like brothers always fighting.....but having each other's back against outside threats. EXACTLY! RANKS CLOSED QUICKLY

Yes I'd do it all again.
