Tell Me About Texas a&m

So, let’s just say they do promote Robinson. Is he forced to keep the staff? Are we really about to run back this same shitshow but only replace Jimbo?

If not, where are his contacts to build a staff? They desperately need to get rid of the rot at OL, TE, WR, and QB coaches. Does Robinson just rely on Petrino to fill it with “his” guys? Does anyone trust him enough to not turn this into a neponistic shitshow?

What about on D? So they go chalk with how bad large swaths of that staff is? If he makes replacements, where do they come from? It’s not like he has major connections outside of the current staff?

So  it’s riding with the same ole retreads  or it’s relying on his minimal level of contacts to build a Turtle Tom equivalent staff or they are going to rely on what Durkin and Petrino can bring in….

Get the popcorn ready…

Yea that’s a real problem. You’re either behind Robinson and you let him fire and hire new staff, or you need to bring in someone new and let them make their own staff. This trying to find a new figurehead while keeping everything else in place doesn’t work for a lot of reasons.

If you try to just stick with Robinson and the rest of the current staff for a year or two while you make a better long term hire you may keep a few kids this year, but your next two recruiting classes are setup for failure when you do make the next HC hire making it that much harder for him to succeed. That may be the best scenario for them at this point if they can’t pull off the gamble on an Elko or Traylor.

Stoops>>>Traylor . Stoops is an experienced SEC coach. However trying to lock up Stoops means they have been turned down a lot.

Traylor is their automatic “school” choice and looking like he will be it. No way he turns them down to stay at UTSA or wait for the likes of Baylor or Cougar high.

I went to bed laughing at aggie for hiring Mark Stoops, then wake up and find out the shit show has only just begun? They've really outdone themselves here.
I stayed awake long enough to learn the Stoops thing was blown up by fan outrage and possibly screwed things up with Fisch. Totally worth the lost sleep

What you want...and what you get...is two different things.

Just like you don’t quit your current job without having a new one lined up, aggy had to have had Jimbo’s replacement lined up before firing him.  Right!?   Right.     right …….

It doesn't sound like they had any interest in Traylor. It's going to be Elko or Robinson.

Aranda has the look of a man that just figured out Waco is Stephen King’s version of Derry, Maine. Traylor won’t head there. Maybe UofH since in the past it’s been a stepping stone. But I wonder if schools looking to pull the trigger on firing their coach and making a hire before December 4th decided not to after seeing the fallout from this.

It’s aggy—they told potential candidates they had to keep Robinson. What coach wants to walk into a situation where he’s being told he has to keep certain members of the staff and not build his own staff, one who he is personally comfortable with and believes gives him the best chance to be successful?

It's truly amazing short-term thinking. And I think it's driven by their attaching infinite importance to the game with us next year. Having a shot in that game has become the organizing, if unconscious, principle of their coaching search -- keep the Best Recruiting Class Ever intact to take down sip.

In other words, aggy fails the marshmallow test.

With this level of turmoil bound to go on for a while, I’m thinking we will demolish aggy next year.

Someone on this thread made the case for Taylor to Cougar High that made sense.

He could clean up on the 2nd tier recruits and maybe snag a few top tier guys in the Houston and East Texas area and put together a pretty good team without having to worry about the Bull Shit at A&M.  He could pad his resume and his choices would be a lot better than they are now.

Baylor,  no.

We are their matchup nightmare. The only allegedly competent part of their team is the defensive line and Banks, Williams, Campbell, Hutson will be third-year players.

We were out of state when it happened, but upon returning and catching up on news, I recollect reading that one of their long time defensive coaches passed away. That may have added to their issues.

Well, with how things are going right now with Holgo and UH, this would very well be the case in the next 2 weeks.  Traylor aint jumping on the UH job while A&M could potentially throw a truck full of cash at him next week. Once the aggy foolishness is taken care of, then Traylor can back channel UH, so UH can dismiss Holgo and bring in Traylor within the hour.

I agree money talks,  and Taylor would probably take the aggy job.

However, it seems like every time the coaches get fired the question is always who are we going to get to replace him?  If Traylor gets good recruits and wins at Cougar High he will be the answer to that question and be able to pick where he wants to go.

Nothing more glorious than being 11-1, going to the Big 12 champ game, while aggy is imploding and OU is sitting at home because their in-state little brother dashed their hopes with a big comeback last night to shatter their CCG dreams

Yep.  We just destroyed Tech by 50.  We gave the world a glimpse of our future QB1 (Arch fucking Manning).  We’re busy discussing  our possible paths to the college football playoff while on the cusp of winning the conference title.

Meanwhile, aggy is still recovering from being the laughingstock of college football because of that ridiculous contract they gave Jimbo and the money they owe him to not coach.  Now they’re on their fifth or sixth HC candidate (because no respectable coach wants to take that job), and they can’t agree on who that should be.  So they’re most likely gonna hire the interim coach who just got blasted by LSU.  They’re gonna go with a DC who has no previous head coaching experience to be the guy that leads them in the first year that Texas and OU join the SEC.

Just when you think aggy can’t out-aggy themselves, they come up with even more insane ways.

If the rumors about bjork going rogue are true, that level of self sabotage must mean he is also tired of aggy’s shit and intentionally trying to get fired himself. For his sake (and ours lulz too) I really hope he has the same guaranteed buyout contract language as jimbo.
I also don’t see how any non-desperate coach takes a job with uncertainty at the AD role. What a giant glorious mess.

I said a few days ago but if you're forcing a HC to keep most of the staff you are already down like 3 tiers of coaches.

This has already reached Tennesse Schiano levels of hilarity, and Aggy is trapped in a real prisoners dilemma.

The soup of variables are lack of cash, potentially exiting AD due to the stoops situation , wanting to keep E Rob to keep players, and pressing timeliness for clearly all of this up for signing day while coaches are coming off the board or being turned off from this shit show.

IMO best remaining move is to promote E Rob , and learn from this for the inevitable search 2 years from now .

What Aggy will likely do is hire a mid coach , maybe Traylor if he's getting itchy or gets bad advise, doesn't matter. E Rob still leaves because he feels jilted, taking some of the defensive staff and players they wanted to keep in the first place. And then whatever mid coach having to hire a mid defensive staff .

No fun, but it would be in their best interest. TexAgs is a cancer for them.

There is no evidence that aggy has the institutional self-awareness to make the changes they really need to make in order to be successful at the level they think they should.

That is what makes them so easy to laugh at.

We are soooooo close to Ag Head Coach Bobby Petrino.

He fits the profile the need to fill. He was once good enough that they could get excited about the possibility of future success, no matter how unlikely. Has no viable alternatives so would take the job. It seems like a match made in heaven.
